for an event and room package? I never have received a paper confirmation and I am guessing the information is in that packet. Can anyone tell me what it says? Thanks in advance.

Jison, you won't be cancelling on us, will you? :(
Linda once told me that nothing is really finally until October 1st, but I know she's been working on finalizing a lot of stuff, so I, too, wonder how that works.
Well, I hope you don't have to cancel. :)

In light of everthing that has gone on, this may be in other people's mind. I want to go, but want to know the cancellation policy just in case. It is so hard to know what to do.

I know a lot of you have questions, and I am assuming that Linda is still in WDW and cannot get home just yet.. So please, take it easy-- as soon as she gets back, I will direct her here to answer questions.. I know we are concerned about our Convention that we have worked so hard on, I think we should just keep everything as normal as possible and keep planning..

It seems to me that someone besides Linda ought to be able to answer people's questions about the convention! Whatever happened to Pete? In the 7 months since I registered for the events-only package, I've never received anything from anyone connected with DIS-Con that confirms my registration. I know that my deposit check was cancelled, so I'm not worried. Considering that the remaining balance is due in slightly more than 2 weeks, people need some answers!
Nancy,
I know that people are worried about their depostits and all, and confirmations, but I am not sure that now is the time to get into this. Linda, did say that she was in charge of that at the last chat. If she is in WDW and is stranded at this time, then there really isn't much else anyone can do. I assume that when you said your check had been cancelled you meant cashed? If so, then you have proof of your reservation and do not need to worry in my opinion. In light of everything else going on, this can wait.

Glo, my check was cashed and I have a copy of the cancelled check, so I know that I am registered. I just find it frustrating that Linda appears to be the ONLY person who knows what's going on with the convention, and that she alone is authorized to answer any questions!

Nancy, there is a storm down here that is almost at hurricane strength! 70 mile an hour winds and very heavy rains and flooding!
As I type this, Gabrielle is passing just to the east of me and is headed towards Orlando.
Today is probably not a good day to be expecting any answers to these questions, but hopefully when things get back to normal here in Florida (whatever normal is anymore!) that you will get an answer.
Nancy,
As Bet said right now there is even a storm to contend with in Florida. Linda, is in charge of that part of the convention. I do not see what the big deal is. Pete I am sure made that decision, and it is his to make. I do not know how things are divied up, but I do know that if Marsha had the answer for you, she would give it to you, and she is probably looking for an answer for you right now. Lets just relax. To many things going on and the convention is not a top priority...for many right now. It will happen and we will all have a great time.

Jison - this is what Pete said on Jan. 21st:
The drop-dead cancellation date will likely be anwhere from October 1 to October 15.

Nancy, perhaps you would be best to e-mail Pete with your concerns if you can't wait a few days for Linda to return. You can reach him at webmaster@wdwinfo.com.
Thanks

We need to know
I understand that there is a situation right now, but this is a problem that has gone on for awhile. I had to email Linda several times to double check my confirmation and although I now dont beleive she originally ignored me I am concerned that only one person is responding and has info about the confirmations. In light of the events (Petes Dad, the Hurricane and the Terrorist attacks) I understand fully about the lack of communication. I just feel more people officially affiliated with the DIS should be able to give a more definitive answer to customers questions. Bad situations arise in every ones lives and patience will be given but many of us signed up months and months in advance without hearing an official confirmation from anyone. In this age of communication, I think it is unacceptable to not be able to comprise an email list of folks attending and send out some info or status and updates. I cannot beleive that no one can be empowered to send out an email to all recipients giving the status of the convention, when info will be available etc.

Anthony, I believe you meant to say that you agreed with Pumbaa_ not Pumba, they are two separate Disers..
Let's all try and have a good weekend....God Bless America!!!

Hi Everyone:
First, I do sincerely apologize about the lack of communication that we've had regarding the event only registrations. I will not go into detail on the issues that surround it, but suffice it to say it has been a difficult summer at best.
The cancellation 'drop dead' date is October 1. Confirmations and balance due statements are going out this weekend to everyone. The problem we have is that we're not exactly sure what Disney's drop dead date is for this right now as it is not outlined in our contract. However, we have a very good working relationship with them and I have no concerns that they will work with us.
This is our first time doing this, and there is a great deal we have still to learn about this, and that we have learned already as we look towards next year. I liken it to what this site looked like when I first started it back in June of 1997, and what it looks like today. That was the product of learning from your mistakes, and working on your strong points. There are many who were supportive and understanding during that process, and have been during this one, and to those people, I thank you sincerely.
Thanks,
Pete

Thank you Pete. I know your expectations for customer service are very high, so I have been surprised about both the amount and quality of information on this event. ( despite Marsha's valiant efforts )
I think it helps to know that we are the Beta Testers ( most will remember that you started out planning this event for 2002....and due to popular demand upped it to 2001). So someday we can all tell stories about "way back when we did DIS-Con for the first time":)
So, I guess from here it will just get better and better !
Thanks Pete!!
For all you and everyone else has done on this event. I am sure it will be awesome.

 Hi Pete.
Nice to see you. :) As Judy said, thank you for reminding us that we are the beta-testers to DIS-Con....and that we'll be the ones to work out some of the bugs. ;)
I'm sure DIS-Con will be ~*~magical~*~

Actually, Judy, I was going to mention the fact that I really wanted to do this next year. I was kind of blind-sided with it, and since the demand seemed (and has been) so high, I had to hurry up and throw a 'booking engine' together. Like I said, for next year, we know exactly what to do (and what not to do), so like fine wine, the process will get better with age :)
Thanks,
Pete

I have not been on the boards in a while.
I did get a paper confirmation from Linda last week. I also had received an email from her that stated the cancellation policy and that is why I let the post drop. I had no idea it was still at the top.
Thanks Pete for the answer. I had already received mine. :)

Just wanted to let everyone know that I received two email confirmations today. I hope that Pete and company only have me down once or their books will never balance! (LOL!) Anyway, I guess I had better send in the last check. Isn't it due 10/1?
Thank you, Pete, for the answers so many are looking for. I do understand that this is our first convention and that, as with anything else, we learn from these experiences. So, each year, it will get easier and each convention will get better! There's no telling what we can accomplish. I will say that with the events of last Tuesday, I find I'm numb to a lot lately. I'm not getting upset by little things, like I used to. So, I say, let's take this one day at a time and when we finally get to WDW and the convention, we can all let our hair down and have a great time. :)

Barb, this is the first post that has really made me feel like 'yeah, maybe I will go!' I thin it's because you first acknowledged that you're still numb (like me), and you also reitterated how this is the FIRST convention (so of course there will be bugs to be worked out), AND then you said we can go to DIS-Con and let our hair down.....that sounds exactly how I am feeling. :)
Thanks Barb. :)
