Pacing Calculator (http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/Running%20University/Article%201/mcmillanrunningcalculator.htm)

Rest day for me today. 5 miles yesterday was pretty fabulous...4 paws way up :paw: :paw: :paw: :paw: Humidity was only 58% and I took the MP3 player with me. Shaved nearly 5 minutes off total time for a 15:05 pace! :bounce: But when I put my time in the pacing calculator, it projects 3:30:27 for a half finish, so I definitely need to train for sub-15 min miles :scared1:

MelR...that's a great race photo and race pace! Where abouts in Arkansas is Rogers? Sounds like a neat area with lots of cool things to do?

Nancy...how's the move going? Say hi to Lily for us! Are you still swimming in the noodle soup?

Lisa...great pace on your 5-miler! :moped: Hope you guys are drying out...looks like Ophelia kept it pretty damp over there this past week!

PD :wizard: for all of our "Team NC" members (Susan, Christa, Bree, Colleen,Tammy, Jennifer, NCRedding, etc)...looks like Ophelia may be heading your way.

Heather...sorry to hear about your ankle troubles...hope it heals quickly :wizard:

Cherseyb...welcome back! :wave2: How's your training going?

Christa...wow...great long run! What show are you doing?

Sunny...how did your long run go...16 or 18? I cried like a baby when DD12 started kindergarten. I'm sure it will be worse when it's the wild todd's turn.

Krista...so happy to have football back, college and NFL  The FSU/Miami game on Monday was some of the ugliest football I've ever seen! How was Cedar Point? We've never been but DH and DD want to go ride the coasters!

Colleen...great long run!

Carrie...how ya been? Thought of you when we saw a snippet of the UM game yesterday! That walking towel sounds cool, but I might have the urge to snap someone with it :teeth:

Jodi...I haven't heard anything about the size of the field since they split the runs. Anyone else know?

Solo...great pace! Toronto sounds cool...I admit to being intrigued about your job, but have been afraid to ask...sounds top secret ;)

Kathy...glad to hear your shoulder's progressing. Thanks for the update on Lynne and Erin! Tell them hi for me!

Tiff...definitely get a Garmin! Best toy I ever had! Now if I could just get the custom workout thing programmed...I'd be set!

Thinking of those affected by 9/11 today on the anniversary. :wizard: to all.

But I figured I might be more accountable to myself if I started posting on the training thread.

I've had a wickedly busy past two weeks of work, so my training kinda fell behind. But I'm ready to pick up the pace again. Planning on a 3 mile run-walk this afternoon and an hour bike ride tonight!

Gotta get ready for the Goofy!

MelR: I've been to and through Rogers a few times. My uncle used to live iin Springdale and we'd visit every few years! :)

Hi All,

I'm late at posting my long run from yesterday. Well it started awful. I knew as I left the house I was probably going to have "digestive" trouble. Sure enough, by mile 3 I was in great need of a bathroom. My only hope was the porta-potties a mile ahead and then a wacko came up on a bike and wouldn't leave me alone. It was a little past 6Am and no one else was around. He smelled of alcohol and scared me. He finally rode ahead so I turned around and headed the opposite direction, putting 4 miles between me and the nearest bathroom :scared1: I stopped at Starbucks and got a decaf coffee while I was there. I decided at that point I was cutting my run short. I walked a while and got back on the path. I did 6.5 more miles with good pace. But it all worked out for good, because as soon as I got home DD was waiting for me, hoping to go for a wog! So I turned right around and went out with her for a 2.5 mile wog. Got back, showered and then took DS to the wildlife reservation and did a 2 mile hike up hills. So all in all, I got my miles in!

Here are my splits on my 13.5 mile medium-length run!

Sept 10
1 11:05
2 10:21
3 10:22
4 10:09
5 11:14
6 11:45
7 10:05/16:34 (10:05 to get to the bathroom, .4 miles at 16:34 to get back on the path)
8 8:55
9 9:11
10 9:02
11 9:22
12 8:55
13 8:47
13.5 8:56

overall 10:07

Today was a rest day. Heats returning M-W so looks like I'll be hitting the TM.

Doing a bit of shifting around the schedule---my pilates cross training needs to be upped, so I have some shifting around in my schedule to accomodate multiple sessions during the week. I think it is detrimental to my physical health to do this--otherwise I will get the setbacks I had last time.

Well my knees were super achy last night--like spending a long day at WDW with bad shoes---so that meant a trip to the shoe store today....$110 AFTER my discount...Yikes! Got a pair of Brooks. If they are comfy for the next several weeks, I will by a 2nd pair in October. We'll see how it goes.

Have a great week everyone!

OK - here is a run to put in the neighbors think I'm crazy category. I went on a 3.5 mile run with my external comando (EC) aka marathon girl. Anyway, we pushed the boy and her little one in joggers, while we were wearing full backpacks. ...." Thankfully, that wasn't the school in the boy's district so I am not going to ruin his reputation!

Sunny - I noticed that you run in some interesting places (the historical road that you mentioned) I ride and sometimes run at a civil war battlefield. We should consider posting pictures from some of our favorite routes. I think Monte would have some good one's to post from the Rockies. I would really enjoy seeing where everyone is training.

First, ruining the boys rep-- sorry but you're doomed :rotfl2: The other moms just don't understand fitness fanatics, trust me! I get strange looks on the playground all the time because I'm, um, PLAYING!!!!!!!

I think its a great idea to post our paths! I don't have any pics yet, but here's a link to the Battle Road. If you know your Revolutionary War history you'll recognize the landmarks.

http://data2.itc.nps.gov/parks/mima/ppMaps/MIMAmap2%2Epdf
http://www.nps.gov/mima/brt.htm

Speaking of such, one of my favorite quotes is taken from a stone on Lexington Battle Green:

Stand your ground. Don't fire unless fired upon. But if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.
Captain Parker (http://www.freefoto.com/preview.jsp?id=1212-02-5&k=The+words+of+Captain+Parker%2C+Lexington%2C+Mass achusetts%2C+USA)

I think those are words to live by!!!!

Well did my 3 miler yesterday. Went too slow! But I hadn't felt good all weekend & I was still full from dinner. I was afraid if I waited any longer, I would be sitting on the couch the rest of the night & not walk at all. I guess at least I got out there and did it.

Today is my rest day. AKA-kids are in school, mommy must do her chores day!
I am hoping to go to the track tomorrow so I can try walk/running again.

I have registered for my 1st 5k. It's in 2 weeks! I can't wait to officially have a race under my belt.

Happy training!

Good morning!! I had a great weekend! Cedar Point was awesome. The park was empty--it was great. The only bad part was that Top Thrill Dragster was closed Friday and Saturday. I had a great run on Saturday morning. I did 4 miles, I started w/3, r/2, but after about a mile I started w/3, r/2. I know, way to experiment on a long run. :) But I found it was actually easier to run 2 minutes than just 1, and call me crazy, but I honestly think that it's easier to run a longer distance. I fell into a rhythm that I don't have time to find in just 2-2 1/2 miles. And how great was it to run alongside of Lake Erie? The route I took let me see the sun rise over the lake and I got to run underneath one of my favorite roller coasters, the Magnum. I have to be honest too and say that it felt so great to be out running and to pass people coming out with a cup of coffee and looking at me like I was nuts! I think this runnng thing could be addictive!! :teeth:

Mel--I'm so glad that September is finally here!! The Steelers looked really good yesteday! And for the record, I've been a Willie Parker fan since training camp last season. By the way, what sophomore jinx??! :goodvibes Did the Bucs end up winning? I saw on the scrolling scores that they were winning.

Nancy--Are you all unpacked yet? We moved into our house Dec. 29, 2003 and I know for a fact that there are still boxes packed in our basement. I'm convinced that if I haven't missed it in 2 years, I don't need it!

Sunny--Awesome run! Sorry about the scary guy. That's one thing I hate about running by myself--you never know who's out there. I guess I should maybe carry pepper spray or something. At least with your muscles, you can knock any guy out!! :cheer2:

Heather--I hope your ankle is feeling better!! Here's some :wizard:

I'll check in with everyone later! Happy training!!

I biked 13 miles yesterday. This morning I walked on the TM for 40 minutes. My ankle is still sore, but the walking did not seem to irritate it like running. I hope my ankle gets better soon because I really don't want to walk the 1/2 marathon. I did that last year, and I really wanted to run some of it this year. Well, it's only September. I shouldn't get too discouraged yet. I must be crazy, but I miss running. :guilty:

Hello everyone!

Sunny- Be careful!! Yikes, at least it was a non-threatening wacko!

Chimera- It's not that top secret, LOL. I work in college athletics. So when we have busy home event weekends, that's when things get crazy. Big upsides and big downsides to working in anything sports realted for sure.

Toronto was really wonderful. My roomate and I got to catch up with people we hadn't seen in a couple months-- it was great. We looked at 9 different condos/developments on Saturday! :earseek: I think there were 2-3 we really liked, but we really need to think about it. If only the hotel we usually stay at had condos. (Looking at this as a vacation place-- at least for now) When we got back Sunday, we got a call from our contact with our Newfoundland Rescue organization. (I got my dog from this organization a couple years ago) They were wondering if we would foster a dog that was found near New Orleans recently and was being turned over to them. So after no discussion, Skip will be joining us for at least a few months until his owner can be located and returned safely. I think the stork brings him Friday. :sunny: (A Lab and 2 Newfies in the same house... vacuum, vacuum, vacuum)

Back on topic- I did my 40 minute run/walk (3/2) around and around Queens Park in Toronto early Sunday morning. I did 4.24 miles for, I believe 9:27/mile pace. Funny story- while running, I noticed a woman ahead of me also running 3/2 intervals. I passed her at one point and when I began walking, she hollered at me to wait up. "Marathoning for Mortals?" she asked. LOL! Since she was doing the same distance, she wanted to run together. Hey, sure, why not!! As we made small talk-- she told me she was a dancer. "Oh, what shows have you been in?" I asked. "I work at Club ########" she replied. And so, that's how I went jogging with an exotic dancer at 4:45am in Toronto. :rotfl2: (BTW- whomever designed her sports bra deserves some kind of Nobel Prize for Physics! Like Beth from "Dog the Bounty Hunter" only prettier and much smaller framed.)

Got to run 40 minutes (3/2) again today (all by myself this time)-- actually looking forward to it.

Happy training all!

Solotraveler - that is the best trip/run report i have heard in a long time!!!! That is so funny! I've never had an exotic dancer chase me down while i was running :rotfl2:

Mel - Rogers is in the extreme NW corner of arkansas. It is near Fayetteville.

Sunny - The creepy guy is not cool!! I'm not sure even IC could deal with him. You might use your tae bo! Billy would be so proud! The battlefield road was really interesting! I looked at the map. Sadly, I know nothing about history, so I even learned a little looking at the map. Oh yeah, thank for the encouragement regarding not being a total freak with the pta moms!

We rode 50 miles at pea ridge military park on sat, but I forgot to get a pic. I will soon. I will be switching from an emphaisis on biking to running in the next couple of weeks, but I am going to do a 100 mile adventure race (I'm going to die) in a couple of weeks and then a century ride in early october (that will be a big time first)!!! I've got to get on my training schedule soon, but I'm skipping the first few weeks becuase i have been basically been doing them all summer anyway!

Well, I'm definitely just doing the full rather than going Goofy this year as I putzed around too much on deciding to register for the half. It's probably for the best though as I didn't manage to build much running mileage in TX this summer and have only built up to doing an 8.3 mile long run(yesterday) since I got back here to ME.

I've done two triathlons and will be doing a third this weekend. Wow, swimming in ocean where the next land fall is Europe is much different than swimming open water in either a river or lake. My former Div 1 swimmer friend thought it was awful too though so I didn't feel too bad. We live on the water but it is a fairly protected bay. I swam slightly faster for an 800 in a lake the following weekend than I did for that 500 so needless to say I've been much more consistent about swimming rather than just assuming that I can ignore it because I'm good at it. I also had an awful run that day and a much better one the following Saturday at least by my standards- I'm very slow running so I was impressed that I actually passed a number of people. I still really like the new lime green bike. Mom posted some pics of it. I decided to punish myself every time I ride it though- if i haven't already ran that day, I put on my sneakers(can they be called that when they cost $90) and do about 20 minutes of running. It increases my running mileage and helps with the bike-run transition for triathlon racing.

So up coming race schedule: sprint tri at Colby College this Sat, half marathon in Portland ME Oct 2, Race for the Cure 5 K at Animal Kingdom Oct 8(? Sat), Marathoning with the Mouse Jan 8, Florida Half Ironman in later May(also at the Mouse House: noticing a pattern anyone), and.... Ironman Wisconsin Sept 10th 2006.

So that is the athletic update. School sucks- we just finished neuroanatomy and have had our first nervous system exam. One more exam, plus a paper, plus a presentation, plus a clinical summary... and that's just for this system which ends Sept 26th. We then do the Psych system which ends Oct 12th. Don't have particularly high hopes for that one as I going to be at WDW from the 7-11th and the worst thing is that I really don't care either. Next up will be muscloskeletal- yeah finally something interesting. The others this semester are respiratory then hematology. Our curriculum is very computer based this year and I don't have internet access at home yet and that is my preferred study location. I'm really looking forward to starting clinicals next year and then especially to graduating. I suppose that is why becoming a PA is often seen as the sane choice rather than going to medical school. I still really want to be a doctor, just not real happy with the process right now.

So that's my update. I have been reading the posts, just not posting myself. When I get a chance, I post some pictures/links for the southern ME coast which is my training grounds.

Remember to just keep moving forward!!! (that mantra has gotten me through both Ironman races and countless other triathlons and running events.

Terri – Hi! Welcome to our team! We have a few others as Goofy as you! (NOT me, though ;) )
Sunny – Oh, I have been there with the digestive problems. That is NO fun! Holy cow, you still pulled a great work out off, though! WTG!
Lisa – You know better than to do WDW without good shoes. At least you got some new ones out of the deal though. It’s all about the shoes!
Tiff – When I have a bad day, I just look at it a little differently. I congratulate myself for finishing it instead of turning around and going home, which is what I usually rally want to do. Watch out for those 5K’s, I hear their addicting!
Craig – How’s the toe?
Krista – I love CP!!!! IMO, I don’t think you missed anything with the dragster, though. I did it and am proud to say I did, but it wasn’t really fun. It went so fast that I thought I would not be able to take it anymore, then went up the hill and came down. The hill and turns went so fast that I did not notice them, so I did not get the thrill that I like. Running under the Magnum would have been cool, though. My fav’s are Millennium Force and Raptor.
Mel – If the fam likes coasters, CP is the place. It is NOT Disney, but it is the best non Disney park I’ve been to. Do not think WDW going in, though, think “I’m here for awesome coasters.” You should come up and we can have a DIS meet there next summer! Congrats again on the great run!
Heather – Hang in there! At least you’re still exercising. I wonder if I’ll ever get to the “I miss running stage.” Hmmmm…..
Solo –Thanks for solving your job mystery. Still trying to figure out the trip to Jordan, but maybe I should just leave that alone. Now, I’ve just got to figure out which school. GVSU? BTW – Did you get an e-mail for the woman you ran with? I’d love to find out who made her anti-gravity top!
MelR –Your training posts just tucker me right out! No wonder you can smile while running!
Lynne – Welcome back! It’s so good to see you again! Sorry about the nasty classes and missing the half sign up. You’ll just have to go Goofy in 07! I use a similar mantra when having a tough run. “Put one foot in front of the other, and soon you’ll be walking across the floor….)

Well, Saturday must have just been THE day for running. We did 7 and I felt better than I had in weeks! We averaged about a 10:47 pace. I only had 2 splits above 11. With a mile and a half to go, I was a happy camper. I think the cold soaks helped with the aches and pains. I also did gu at the half-way mark. Good thing I liked vanillas bean, because 3.5 miles of a taste I didn’t like would have killed me! That stuff really stays with you. Now, for the BEST part. Are you sitting down. Dh was telling me how I must really be feeling good around the 4 mile mark. I agreed and apologized that I hold him back. Get this, he really likes me as an anchor (my word not his) for the long runs. He’s learned that the burns himself out when I’m not with him keeping a slower pace. He said he would not have made it if it was just him! I’m flying high now!

Doing 45 tonight and Thursday is a rest day this week. Woo hoo!!!
OK, so U of M lost, but the Lions won. I think my whole world is now turned upside down!

Just dropping in for a quick sec.... did anyone get the email about the Disneyland Half Marathon in 2006??? Mulling it over right now....

I did my run today-- 40 minutes (3/2) and managed 3.86 miles which is 10:22/mile pace. I failed to get up this morning early enough to run, so I had to give it a swing this afternoon and HOLY COW was it hot. I had to ditch about 1.5 of my running intervals and just walked them instead. I was happy to get through it. :)

Crosstraining day tomorrow, which will blissfully be something indoors :groom:

Good morning!! :sunny: How is everyone today? Thinking over the Disneyland Half Marathon?? ::MickeyMo I had the BEST run last night. I did 40 minutes of w/3, r/2--I ended up getting in 3.23 miles at 12:25 mile pace! That's my best time ever!! :cheer2: :cheer2: I was so excited when I stopped at 40 minutes and looked at my Garmin. I have my 2nd 5K this Friday night, I'm looking forward to seeing how much I've improved since my last 5K in August.

Carrie--I've ridden the Top Thrill Dragster before. It's an awesome ride, but I don't think it's worth a 3 hour wait. Stephen and I got engaged at Cedar Point on July 9, 1999, so we go back every summer since it's our "special place". We got engaged at Cedar Point and honeymooned in Walt Disney World--does it get any better??? :teeth:

I guess I better start working. Does anyone else feel like work gets in the way of disboarding?? :goodvibes

Good morning everyone. Just popping in for a quick note before I head out for a busy day visiting customers. I had a nice surprise yesterday when I checked the official time for my last 5K. Turns out is was better than I thought. My time was 39:52 which was a huge improvement over 43:09 the race before. I was so excited to get under 40. I hope for more improvement for the next race which is Oct. 1-Race for the Cure.

My long run on Saturday was good. 6 miles in 1:23:00. Of course I hope to get faster but as of now I am well ahead of the sweeper! I skipped my Sunday workout because of the Panthers game (I'm TOO depressed! ) but I did have to walk quite a bit to and from the game. I'm back on track tonight with my trainer.

Have a great week everybody. I will be checking in as often as I can so I can get some inspiration from all of you big dogs! :dog2: :dog: :pug:

Well today was my 30 min walk. I got in 2 miles but what got me excited was the jogging I did. Last week I added 30 sec. of jogging to my walking & it about killed me. Boy did my heart & lungs notice the difference!

Today on each 1/2 mile lap , I ran 2 times for 1 min each. AND IT DIDNT KILL ME!! Big improvement over last week. Also the walk after each run was better that last week. Not a huge improvement on time but I know if I keep it up I will definately help my pace in the long run.

I so want to do the Disneyland 1/2!!!!!! It would cost a fortune for us just to get there. Too far to drive. Maybe........... :rolleyes1

Everyone is doing great!! Keep it up. Less than 17 weeks to go!

Hey everyone!

Welcome TEK! Tell us everything about yourself!

Tiff...congrats on the running! Is it really only 17 weeks? :earseek:

Susan...wtg on your 5K time!

Tammy...welcome back! How have you been?

Krista...great pace! :cool1: I don't understand why we can't have football every night :confused3 It was a good week for FL teams...all 3 won! :cheer2:

Solo...wtg on your pace! A college athletics job sounds pretty cool. Personally, I want to be an NFL ref when I grow up...or maybe third string kicker. Newfies are way cool...hope you don't have white carpet! :dog: Nice to know exotic dancers are athletes too :rotfl:

Lynne...great to see you again! Good grief, you've been busy! Congrats on all your triathlons! Don't worry...the school process will be over soon and you'll be amazed at how quickly it went by ;) Clinicals will be fun...though some are certainly better than others. I loved emergency medicine, but I got my best stories from my psych rotation :teeth:

Carrie...congrats on the 7-miler! :cool1:  Is 7-miles the point where you start using the gels? I'm thinking about dried fruit instead...the gels just seem like they might be nasty.

MelR...wow...the adventure race sounds cool! Is a century ride 100 miles, too?

I did 10 W3/R1 intervals yesterday...pace was 15:26. It's weird, my long run pace was better, but was W4/R1 intervals and was a much longer distance. What's up with that? :confused3

Oh...and when do I need to decide which shoes I'm wearing for the half? I'm still torn between ASICs and Nike. I'm not sure if I'll need to get a new pair soon to make sure they're broken in by the time of the race. Help!

wtpclc
09-14-2005, 10:09 AM
Mel - I want to say Gels should be used after 45 min to an hour. I have low blood sugar, though, and wanted to see if it helped at the mid-way point. The last mile or two I had a tendancy to struggle. The bottom id not drop out on me at all that time, so I think it helped. I thikn you've got ime to break in new shoes. I'd say two months shoudl be enough to get tehm broken in. I'm not an expert, though.

I'm still debating on the shoes. I love my ASICS, but I've run in thothing else since I was in 9th grade. DH loves the shoes he got from the shop in town, but he always ran in cheap shoes before. The place in town does not sell ASICS, so I'm torn.

Well, dh and I shuffled our scheule the is week. I know you're not really supposed to, but we did. SO, I XT'd at CUrves Monday to stay out of the heat. Took Tuesday off instead of Thursday, because I could not work out last night. WE'll do 45 min tonight, 40 Thursday and be back on track again. I think I worked out pretty hard on monday, as I was pretty sore yesterday.

OK, gotta' go. Happy trainign all!

BTW - Iheard teh DL half gets you a Castle medale. Oooohhh, the temptation!

plutosmyfav

Chimera-- great job on shaving off the minutes. You'll get your pace where you want it, I just know it! As for the shoes. I'm planning on having one pair just barely broken in for the race (~50 miles). They will be ASICS Cumulus (Is there any other shoe??? JK). I bought a pair last weekend, but I'll need to buy another pair before race day.

TEK224-- Welcome! So you're a Goofy! Good luck!!!

Lisa-- I'm trying to muster up sympathy for your achy knees, but its hard since you got them at WDW!!!! I'm jealous! :earboy2:

Tiffj-- Isn't it the truth-- Rest Day = Chores for Moms!!!!! Not exactly my definition of R&R!!!

Krista-- your sunrise run on Lake Erie sounds wonderful! Glad you had a blast at CP

Heather-- Hope you can run soon!

Solo-- Great pace! Chased down by an exotic dancer???? Yet another example of just how exciting running can be! :rotfl:

MelR-- You amaze me! A century ride? I can't wait to hear about it. Where? How exciting.

xterratri-- I'm doing a half on Oct 1 in NH. Let's hope for great weather!

Carrie-- Kudos on the 7 with great pace! I understand the "anchor" statement! When I take my DD for a wog it is actually very enjoyable because I can't push.

Tammy-- Stay with us! Good to see you posting.

Susan-- Great job on your 5K. That is a great improvement in time.

As for me? I've been in a blah state this week. Monday is typically a 6.5 mi on the TM but I cut it short to 5.0. Monday is also upperbody weights. I cut a few sets out here and there. Yesterday was lowerbody weights which I cut a bit off, too. DS is having major stress with transitioning to kindergarten and his new afterschool program. I'm a mess over it. I had the chance to do speed work last night after the dust settled and I only managed 2X400 in a 2 mile session. The first was great (for me) 6:38 pace, the second was 7:29 and I just couldn't muster the strength to do another :( I sure hope I get back out of this funk. If things don't improve for DS I may be cutting his time at afterschool care which will mean cutting my training time. Its all so stressful right now.

Sunny, I am having a blah week too! I feel terrible (DH says I am not drinking enough water) and my right knee, IT Band, hip and butt hurt. I had a 40 minute tempo run and it just about killed me. Thank goodness today is a rest day because I am a hurting puppy.

Carrie, I am still debating about shoes too. I am running in Asics right now and tried a pair of Mizunos. Maybe that is what is causing my right leg pain. I am back to my Asics right now but find the Nimbus a bit too clunky, perhaps I should try the cumulus.

Tiff, isn't it great when you see an improvement. You will be amazed at how much more you can do so quickly. Keep it up.

Susan, good job on your long run. My friends went to the panther game as well. They "said" there was bad officiating??

Solo, good job as always!

Have a great week..I am going to drink, drink, drink water as I have put on about 3 pounds in the last 10 days.

Hi everyone!

Carrie- Jordan was a matter of being in the right place at the right time. International recruiting wanted to send someone from our office over and Voila! Alas, I did not get an e-mail addy from my new running friend. In hindsight, I probably should have-- it would be nice to have someone to run with in Toronto next time I'm in town.

Chimera- It's a beige berber capet with some black in it. It's going to be tough to try and keep up, I'm sure.

Glad everyone got a kick out of my story :)

I was going to get up this morning and run, but between my Big Brother live feed update addiction that kept me up very late last night and the rain here this morning, that didn't happen :) So, my 40 minutes (3/2) will be run this evening.

Happy training all!

i have been a calorie buring fool!!!! The ride we did on saturday was worth over 1800 calories! Yesterday, the boy started preschool, so dh and i dropped him off. I ran home and dh went to work. that was about 4 miles (400cal). Then dh and i mountain biked for about 30 mins (somewhere between 200 and 300cals) then we picked boy up. (I did do some italian food/dessert calorie replenishment). Then we kayaked (who knows how many cals) and finally after boy went to bed, we ran another 3 miles (300 calories) I am a stick, so i have to be careful becuase I feel sluggish and depressed when I burn too much! Anyway.... guess what I am doing today..... McD's SHAME ON ME!!!! It tastes soooooo good. I didn't even tell them which size, they just hooked me up with a huge fries and a coke bigger than my bladder! OH THE JOY. I don't usually eat foods high in sat. fat, but hey... i need the calls and there is a chance that I could win a free disney trip!! Wouldn't it be great to have the Jan trip paid for by someone!

Just to paint the true picture, I am cramming fries in my mouth between typing words.

Sunny and Mel - the century ride is actually in early October here in NW arkansas. It is not a race and there are aid stations every 10 to15 miles, so we won't be setting any speed records.

Sunny - the IC needs to let you have a break every now and again. Tell her it is ok if you rest some!!

Happy training everyone!!! I have to get back to my food before the boy eats it all!

MelR--You are KILLING me! I haven't had Mc Donald's since Christmas, I get cravings for it SO bad. Grrr. ;)

I did xt last night, about 20-30 minutes of weight lifting and then 30 minutes on the stationary bike. My legs feel like jello!! I haven't lifted weights in so long. They're feeling a little better now, but last night I had to practically crawl up the steps to get to bed. It was awful!! I'm also struggling because I'm trying to only drink 1 can of pop a day. I'm a serious Diet Coke addict, I drink probably 3-4 cans a day, so to cut back to one a day is killing me. I have the most awful headaches and zero energy, this is terrible. :teeth:

Susan--Sorry about the loss. I didn't see any of the game, but I know from experience that sometimes you just have bad officiating. Hope you guys get a win this Sunday. :wizard:

Mel--Yeah for Florida teams! :cheer2: Everyone is pretty bummed around here about OSU's loss Saturday night. I'm not a big OSU fan, mostly because I don't really follow college football, but it was a heartbreaking loss to watch! I've been doing a little smack talking around the office the week. The Bengals win one game and everyone starts saying they're going to the Super Bowl. I sure hope my boys don't let me down on Oct. 23!! :teeth:

Tiff--Awesome improvement! I've noticed that even a couple of days difference can bring big changes.

Solo--A Lab and 2 Newfies?? Lucky!! I love my black lab, :lovestruc he's 5 months old today and he weighs about 35lbs. He's going to be a big boy!! :dog: I have to vaccuum like crazy with just Hines, I couldn't imagine 2 more!! Maybe you need to buy stock in Lysol or something. ;)

I better get back to work, I had a can of Diet Coke with lunch, I better get something done before my sugar high wears off!! Happy training!!

Thanks for the kudos everyone! Today was xt-did the bike for 30 min. Was able to improve on that also(upped the resistance & distance) I'm sure my legs will be cussing me tomorrow.

We are trying to get our house ready to sell so I have been working my butt off (hopefully literally!) You never realize what all needs cleaning out, organizing & dusting until you know critical eyes are coming to look at it.

Mel- nothing like a few calories to really rev up that metabolism

Sunny-I understand how you kids have trouble a school can really weigh you down. We had an issue with DS in 1st grade but everything has worked out. Tell that IC to give you a *&^#@! break ;)

I proud of you all. Everyone is doing great. Keep it up.

Hey cumulus wearers, I was looking for a cheap trail runner and i ran across this. These are one of the pairs I run in and these are a good price ($47.50). Good morning all!

Carrie- I'm right there with you-- I'm having a show dilemma as well. Adidas no longer makes my running shoes. :guilty: So now I have to go and get fitted yet again to find something that really fits well. Maybe I'll be able to find a similar model.... That's my hope anyway.

Colleen- Thanks for the kind words. Sounds like you're doing mighty fine yourself!!

Yesterday evening I did my 40 minutes (3/2) and averaged about 9:12/mile pace (or 4.34 miles) I was a little distracted when I started my run (my mind sort of racing about other things) so I finished my first mile is 8:03!!! Oops!! I was suprised that I didn't completely suck wind after that, but it was definately harder than what I was planning to do yesterday. An "easy" 6-miler tomorrow morning. UH-huh, yeah, "easy."

Gamin users- are any of you using the Training Center computer software as well?? I LOVE it. To be able to go back and track my runs and splits and pace... just great. I highly recommend it.

Well, back to work!

My time was 39:52 which was a huge improvement over 43:09 the race before. I was so excited to get under 40. I hope for more improvement for the next race which is Oct. 1-Race for the Cure.
Great time Susan! Congrats! :cool1: DH & I will be running the Charlotte race for the cure too. I think Bree may too. Anyway, have you ever run it? It is fun but there are TONS of people running/walking it so my time always suffers from this. I am running it in honor of my Aunt, Mom (she is walking), Best friend (she is walking), and MIL. And in memory of my great Aunt and others! Hope to see you there! :paw:
Just been running, biking, lifting and next week will add the double long runs every other week.

I'm counting on there being tons of people so I won't look so darned slow. The last two races I did (Panthers BluePoints 5K and Greekfest 5K) had some really speedy people and I finished close to the bottom. Shouldn't bother me I know, but it does. This one is for such a great cause for sure. I'm running to honor a co-worker who has gone through 2 bouts now. Glad you are doing it too. I'll bet you and Bree will be done long before me! Well, I did much better than yesterday on my 40 min! I felt much better with teh form runnign this week too. Just got Curves tomorrow for XT and an "easy" 6-miler on Saturday. Dh and I discussed last Saturday that we will be reaching a point where 8 is going to be a short run for us. Hard concept to grasp!

hi all - another one of those quick posts as I use up my time in the internet cafe. I'm still in London , making the most of being able to wear sequins during the day (without anyone thinking i'm mad) and shiny silver shoes and doing far too much shopping, especially as i'm buying more shiny things that I can't wear in new zealand - I think I have the magpie gene. I have only missed one training run so far - and it was only a little 4 miler (so I keep telling myself to stop panic) but I was soooooo tired I think if I'd gone i'd have ended up sick so dfigured staying in bed much better plan. Not sure quite how I'm going to manange my long run after a BIG night out tomorrow but i'm going no matter what - although somewhat foolishly I didn't write down how far we have to go - might pop onto higdon now actually. Anyway, all good with me, I fly to singapore for four nights on Sunday and then I'll be back on the boards properly. Hope everyone is okay. Helen

Good morning! Happy Friday! I'm excited today, I have my 2nd 5K at 7:00 tonight. :cheer2: :cheer2: I have my goal, but I'm not going to post it, just in case. I'll let you guys know tomorrow if I made it. :) I ran 30 minutes last night, I think I went 2.47 miles and I was doing a 12:25 pace. Or something around that. I forget. I was all set to go out and do my 40 minutes, but Stephen stopped me as I was walking down the driveway. He thought I was doing the 5K in place of last night's run, not in addition too (like I was planning) he said maybe I shouldn't do 40 minutes on Thursday, 3.1 miles on Friday and 5 miles on Sunday--I didn't want to risk uping my milage too much and get hurt. So I just did 30 minutes last night.

Helen--You sound so glamourous! Must be that dual citizenship thing. Are you planning on wear sequins during the marathon? :teeth:

Heather--Yay! :cheer2: You're ready to rock 'n roll now!! :cheer2:

Christa and Susan--Awesome that you guys are running for worthy causes. I hold breast cancer awareness and ovarian cancer awareness very close to my heart. That's why I love 5K's, they always go to benefit great causes.

I did killer upper body weights yesterday. Set new records on several machines for weight :teeth: I also did an hour of hill work on the TM :crazy2: I kept a steady speed of 6.0mph and did 2 minutes at each hill with 2-4 minutes in between. I started at 3% and went up to 10%. There were so many blinking lights stacked up at 10% I thought I was at Los Vegas :rotfl2: Talk about lactic threshold, my entire body was burning. I'm a bit nervous about my hilly half on Oct 1. Hills are not my thing!

Carrie

I am still among the living, but now I'm facing the reality of a fall semester.

This is the flip side of my summers of pseudo work and lots of travel. During the semester whenever I'm awake I'm either working or thinking about classes, students, meetings, and all other commitments. The return of the students is always exciting, as you can feel the energy level on campus increase. The negative is my down time pretty much disappears until Christmas.

I have looked in from time to time, and will continue to do so. Martha and I are making good progress, and I see many of the regulars are as well.

I would take exception to those who hate the Patriots. I hate the Red Sox, as they truly are a bunch of idiots and prima donnas. The Patriots, in contrast, are great role models for success, which they have earned and deserve to be congratulated for. Everybody on the team has bought into the concept of team success, and does the dirty work without complaining that is necessary to win. The organization is absolutely not willing to overpay for the gifted trouble-maker, the Owens or Moss. They instead have solid players of solid character, which yields results in any human endeavor. It is sure to end someday, but I find it hard to pull against a group of people whose effort and values are so aligned with my own.

Good luck to all.

Wow-- glad I'm not a football fan :) Hockey on the other hand...that's a WHOLE other story (Try being a Caps and Maple Leafs fan in Red Wings country... yikes!)

Krista- Best of luck tonight!! You'll do great!!

Carrie- You know it's funny, I had that same thought last night. 8 miles will be "resting??" that boggles my mind! Are you doing Race For the Cure here next weekend?? I'm thinking about it..... (But after 8 miles, who knows)

Anyhow, I seem to have come down with either allergies or a slight cold (I'm guessing allergies) so I'm not 100% right now. But, due to the wonders of Allevert, I was able to get my run in today!

I did my "easy" :rotfl2: 6-miler this morning in 57:02 or about 9:30/mile pace. I have got to figure out some way to control my pace when I start... I split the first mile at 8:57 and I feel like I paid for it later. I'm happy with the time-- I knocked a full minute off my 6-mile pace two weeks ago. :goodvibes Also, it's pouring rain here in West Michigan this morning. I decided to go ahead and run anyway-- after all, what are you going to do if it's raining on race day?? Well, I'm glad I did it, but it was kind of miserable there towards the end.

Well, got to check on the carpet cleaners who are here and then Foster Newfie will be here around 4.

Happy training all!

As for the Patriots, I love them. My db was attached to them from a young age. Then, their addition of Mr. Brady, U of M grad, has really increased my enthusiasm. I really like that they're a hard workign teams with no real superstars, though.

Just for inspiration:

http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2005/09/15/runner_just_wont_stop_after_257_races_in_2_years/

Link won't work. This is from the Boston Globe:

Runner just won't stop, after 257 races in 2 years
At 84, she takes the lead in a coming movie, but her own story is even more remarkable

By Jason Schwartz, Globe Correspondent | September 15, 2005

She was born in the 1920s, started running in the 1970s, and is still pounding the pavement today. Eighty-four-year-old Louise Rossetti has participated in more than 80 road races so far this year, after running 114 races in 2004 and 143 in 2003. She belongs to eight different running clubs and even has a race named after her.

''I don't play bingo," Rossetti said.

Now the Saugus resident is taking her passion to a new level. She was recently cast to play the title character in the locally produced independent film, ''Run, Grammie, Run."

It's the story of a 75-year-old woman who wants to reinvigorate herself after years of growing increasingly depressed while watching her friends slow down and pass away. Deciding that she needs to do something big, she determines to try qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

Although Rossetti has absolutely no experience in the performing arts and is almost a decade older than the character she plays, she never hesitated when offered the starring role.

''I'll do anything to support the sport of running," she said.

Rossetti is particularly interested in promoting the sport to seniors and women, even if it means running a little bit less herself.

''She's giving up some races specifically so she can be in the movie," said David Singer, the film's writer, a first-time producer and director. ''I think she sees it as a tradeoff. She's still able to get her message out, [but] it's a different vehicle."

Singer, who is based in Lakeville, is financing the movie. He has bet $50,000 of his own money on the chance that Rossetti's onscreen performance will prove every bit as remarkable as her running career.

''You can teach somebody to act," he said, ''but you can't teach somebody how to run." In fact, he designed the Grammie role knowing that an experienced runner, and not necessarily an experienced actor, would play it. He is convinced that authentic-looking running scenes are vital to his movie's success.

Rossetti did not become an authentic runner until she was 50. She had always been interested in athletic activities, particularly swimming, but had never participated in a race or contest. Women just didn't do that sort of thing.

That all changed for her one day in 1971 while she was participating in a physical education class at the Lynn YMCA.

''The phys-ed director had us running around the suspended track," Rossetti said. ''I said, gee, can't we go outside and run?"

Rossetti has seldom stopped running outside since. Although knee problems forced her to stop participating in the annual race to the top of Mount Washington, she still holds the women's time record for the over-75 age bracket. In 2000, she carried the Olympic torch through Charlestown.

''I enjoy it," she said. ''It gets the blood circulating. It makes you feel good."

But the ever-humble runner constantly laments that she is getting slower and slower, as her miles clock in these days at between 15 and 20 minutes. She can no longer run races longer than 5 kilometers.

''I get a big applause when I finally come in," Rossetti said. ''They're all glad to see me, because the race is over and the festivities can begin."

Running has also been a refuge for Rossetti.

Twenty-six years ago her daughter, Suzanne, was kidnapped, raped, and murdered by two drifters in Arizona. She had locked herself out of her car, and the two men helped her get back in.

In gratitude, Suzanne offered them a ride and a six pack of beer. She did not know that they were both psychopaths with long criminal records.

''That was a terrible thing; I had a hard time getting over that." Rossetti said.

Still, she did not throw herself completely into the sport until her husband, Peter, died in his sleep in 1993.

''Because I didn't have him to go out with at nighttime, I started to add more races all the time," Rossetti said.

The memory of her husband and daughter remain etched into Rossetti's life as a runner. The proceeds of the Rossetti Women's 5K Race held annually in Louise's honor go to the Peter A. Rossetti and Suzanne Maria Rossetti scholarship fund, which benefits graduates of Saugus High School, as well as the Northeast Metropolitan Vocational School, which Peter helped to found.

Despite tragedy, the Rossetti family has persevered.

''Everybody's there for one another," said her 53-year-old daughter, Donna Rossetti-Bailey, who added that either she or her older brother Peter are always by their mother's side throughout the course of her day.

''We were always close," Rossetti said. ''An Italian family, we're close."

Her acting coach, Marianna Scarpellini, believes that this family closeness projects through the camera.

''Because she has such a close family tie in her life and there's so much love in her family, that part of her comes through," Scarpellini said.

Singer discovered Rossetti simply by scanning through race results. Her name ''kept popping up," and she finished with consistently good times for her age. After determining that Louise was ''highly photogenic" based on pictures he found on the internet Singer arranged for an audition.

''Louise was wonderful," he recalls.

Although her octogenarian pupil has sometimes struggled with remembering all her lines, Scarpellini said, she is ''very natural" and ''quick with improvisation."

Both the director and coach agree that Rossetti's transition into acting has been eased by the many parallels between Rossetti's life and ''Grammie's."

But Rossetti sees this issue from a different angle. She believes that the most difficult part of playing the role has been coming to grips with the many subtle, yet significant, differences between the Grammie character and herself.

''It is challenging," she said. ''I'm not accustomed to doing something other than being Louise Rossetti."

The hard work has just begun for Rossetti and the rest of the film's cast, though. The majority of the film's scenes remain to be shot. Once the film is completed, Singer hopes to be able to sell it to a cable television network. There will also be an abbreviated version posted on the internet.

The planned release of ''Run, Grammie, Run" is the holiday season of 2006, by which time Rossetti will be still another year older, but chances are she won't look it. Indeed, she takes it as a compliment that she is an 84-year-old playing a part that is meant for somebody nine years her junior.

''It is pretty neat," she said. ''Nobody ever guesses that I'm 84."

''I feel very honored and very humbled about the whole thing. I'm just an old runner who's getting slower and slower."

Hi, everyone! I am, ahem, one of those who has been MIA. Sorry about that. I have been overwhelmed with so much stuff including the prospect and reality of emptying my parents' house so it can be sold, and incredibly demanding schedules for kids which includes cross-country, marching band, school work and many, many meetings.

Have not had much time to wog or cross-train, but did 3.5 miles on the TM Wednesday night and am doing another 5K this Sunday. It's a fundraiser for DS12's school to maintain their athletic fields. This is one where I shouldn't be among the slowest in the pack, as many moms strolled it together last year, chatting and laughing (that was pre-surgery days for me, so I didn't even dream of trying it). I am just hoping no one thinks I am being anti-social because I plan to wog it on my own at my own pace, in an effort to beat my 9/3 time of 47:24. I am a tiny bit intimidated because I don't know the course at all or even that part of town, so I will probably ask DH if we can go drive the route or maybe even walk it tonight.

KeenHo hasn't posted recently, but he is working hard training for a 15K in early October and has already exceeded the miles, doing about 11 at least one day a week. He just told me he plans to run a marathon here in DE in May. I am hoping we might motivate ourselves and find it in our pocketbooks to do the DL 1/2 next September, but with DD off at her first semester of college, and DS just back to school at that point, not sure if it will work out. I am already anticipating the anti-climax of post WDW1/2 blues and worried about staying motivated to continue to lose weight, etc., so it would be great to have that trip to look forward to.

Okay, first I don't post in forever, and then I write a book. Just really wanted to thank everyone for the inspiration you provide even when you don't know it! :grouphug: Keep up the awesome training everyone!

solo - We must have crossed replies. No, no race fro the cure. I have to somehpow run 8 miles, work at the Harbor Humane Society Dog walk in West Olive, do a scrapbooking class in Muskegon and then head to EGR for a social gathering. I think I'll be up extra early. Kind of scary.

My training schedule is a mess these days. Just went back to working in the real world this week. Now I have to wear shoes to work and I miss my two hours of ER and TNG re-runs everyday ;) And DD12s soccer season has started so we're now traveling all over the state every Saturday. There has been no cross training, but I haven't missed any runs...my long runs are just getting done on Fri now. I'm on my first week of week 5 of the MFM W/R program, but I stretched the long run to 4 miles instead of 3.

And now...drumroll please.... :rockband:

Today's pace is.....

14:47! :thewave: :thewave:

Yes, that's right...sub 15 min!
I'd like to thank the Academy and John Bingham for my training, my WISH team friends for all their inspiration and encouragement, my mother for raising me to be stubborn and obnoxious enough to just decide one day that I'm going to participate in a half marathon, and my family for supporting my training schedule and races ;)
Seriously, though, I couldn't be more thrilled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's hope for me yet!

Good luck to everyone in their races this weekend! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Being from FL, I have no feelings one way or the other toward the Pats, but I have always found the Cowboys and Bills to be a bit irritating :teeth:

I did my long run today, 6 miles, which yes felt short compared to the 8 miles from last week. I averaged 10:21 mph, which is great for me, our city is really hilly and it was hot this morning. I was having trouble with my knee and what I thought was an IT band problem. A friend of mine is a PT and she said that I needed to stretch my quad more, well, I stretched last night and iced like crazy and it was like the pain was slowly releasing. It felt awesome. So moral of the story... Be sure you are stretching!!! Muscles need to be elongated to grow strong and healthy!

Mel, that is awesome! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc You should be so proud of yourself! The endurance and speed will just keep improving.

Cam, good to hear from you! I personally love your long-winded "books". It is really good to hear how everyone is doing.

Solo, glad you had a nice "easy" 6 miler today too! Isn't it amazing! Just think what we will be doing in 4-6 weeks!!

Helen, safe travels home! Very impressed you have been able to keep up with your training. You go girl.

Txbelle, glad your ankle is feeling better! Keep on trucking everyone!!

Craig - glad you are among the living!!!! We miss your wit and wisdom. Hope your school schedule calms down a bit!

Mel - Way to go!!!!!! :cool1:

Colleen - Good job on your long run! My pace for the longer runs is usually around 10:30. Maybe we will run into each other on the marathon course. I do mostly hilly runs as well (there is basically no other option around here)

So I'm fighting the ankle thing again. I think I did a run last week without stretching enough. I think my calf gets really tight and pulls on something in my ankle. I have been stretching every time I think about it!

I did an 8 mile run on thurs while the boy was in preschool. I am doing a 16 week program, so I don't officially start until next week. I'm not starting next week because I am tapering for the 100 mile adventure race (where, as I mentioned, I'm going to die!!!) I also biked for about 40 minutes on thurs and mountain biked for 30 today. Of course I crashed and now have a HUGE bruise on the back of my good leg! In the words of napoleon dynamite "DANG IT!" I think I am going to mt. bike again this weekend, including a night ride with my team, where I am going to die! I hope to run once more before the race. Oh yeah, kayaking with a friend's dad on monday!

Happy training.

Are you doing the marathon? That would be great to meet up on the course somewhere. If you or any other 10+ mph marathoners want to join into a little band of marauders, that would be great. After all, we will need to take pictures along the way too!! No pressure, if it doesn't work out, we can also go our separate ways. My main goal is the just have fun!!

Keep working on that ankle! I really felt the stretching, advil and icing really helped me. Btw, which plan are you doing?

Mel-- Kudos :cheer2: Your acceptance speach was great :rotfl:

Colleen-- glad you found a cure for your knee pain. I may join you and MelR in the 10:30 stream, but I'm hoping I don't no offense!!!!

Cam-- don't worry about being a snob on the walk. Those ladies will be green with envy ::yes::

I did an easy run on the TM tonight. 6.0 mph no hills, virtually effortless. It was really nice to not be pushing. I did 5.5 miles. The weather looks like there will be no LR tomorrow :crazy2: I will go stir crazy. Sunday should be pleasant, if not, I'll take a couple hours of vacation on Monday to get it in.

I seemed to be carbo-loading for an Ultra today :rolleyes2 Maybe the IC is planning something I'm not away of :rotfl2:

I'm tempted to head up to NH and checkout the half route. Maybe I can drive it with my Garmine out the window so I can get the altitude profile! I keep re-reading the course description.

Colleen-I'm total game to meeting up somewhere. I am actually doing goofy, so I may not be able to maintain 10:30 pace depending on how the 1/2 goes. Will we start in the same corral?

Sunny - maybe you can wait for us at the end and cheer!!!! :flower: At local races, my EC, mean marathon girl, comes back to get me and runs the finish with me! You could do that!!! :cheer2:

Good morning everyone! I'm taking today off and doing my long run--5 miles tomorrow. Well my 5K was AWESOME last night! I crushed my PR big time, I finished in 36:04!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: The other 5K I did, I finished in 39:04, so I beat my PR by 3 minutes!! I was so psyched when I came across the finish line. And my other big news: I ran a majority of the course! :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: Stephen ran the 5k too, he stayed with me for the 1st 1/2 mile or so, but then I told him to go on. He finished in 24:something. And no knee problems! :cheer2:

Mel--Awesome on your sub 15:00! You are doing awesome!! Keep it up!

Colleen--I'm so glad that your knee is feeling better. Keep stretching and icing and you'll be fine. I'm learning from Stephen's mistakes what NOT to do and I think stretching is the main culprit in a lot of running injuries.

I'll talk to all later! Happy training!

Krista, what an awesome improvement! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc That is great! I really enjoy running in the evenings. Good work.

:

Melissa, when I registered, I put down my 1/2 marathon time of 2:14, so I guess that will dictate what corral I am in. I guess we can compare our corrals at Trails End. Were you able to put down a past race time?

Oh, Sunny, that would be great if you wanted to join us, but I fully expect you will be well on your way to a 9 mph marathon!! Like MelR said, just wave at us at the finish line and we can all join in a big group hug! :grouphug:

Craig, good to hear from you. Glad everything is going well for you and DW!

Kirsta- Woo Hoo you GO girl!!!!! Great job. I'm so happy for you :cloud9:

Well its not really raining, but I didn't get up for my LR because of the unpredictable weather today. Its 96% humidity so I probably would have been a puddle anyway. Hoping for better weather tomorrow :wizard:

I did 4 miles today in 58:30. My ankle still feels good. I then worked in the yard weeding the flower beds for one and a half hours. I need a rest.

Is there anyone out there planning to walk 3/run 2 for the half? :flower:

I am doing the marathon, wanted to do the half then the full in 2007 but missed registration so signed up for the full, yes this is my first marathon-- little nervous I do not want to be swept--

Where would be a good place to stay so my friends can see me (cheer for me) during the race, will be accessible for them to see me during the race maybe 2x and then at the finish-- if so how do you plan

Took today off the rest for my long run of 1.5 -2 hours tom. morning

Any info to ease my mind will help

Hi WISH Team!
I have lots to say, but figured that I'd post this link another DISer has of the "stuff" we got/paid for on the Members Cruise. The only thing missing in this is the Original signed litho from Ducky Williams. We will be framing that soon and we are not selling our things on ebay.

Someone is selling their Stuff we got from the cruise (http://cgi.ebay.com/Disney-Vacation-Club-SS-Member-Cruise-Lot_W0QQitemZ6561450903QQcategoryZ38006QQssPageNam eZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) so I thought I'd post up this link so you could "see" some of what we received/paid for. There is a signed litho that is not part of this lot that we received. Signed by Ducky Williams, and we will be framing that for sure.

Every night we received something. It was an adventure just going to the room to see the goodies left along with the towel art.

We had a great trip. I will toss in more tidbits later.

I will need to read this entire week's report from everyone. Sorry that I have not read it and the new week starts so soon. This is why I thought to put up my link here so as to not take up next week's thread and I figure all are about done with this week's reporting.

Lisa, so sorry that we were oh so close and weren't able to hook up for a bit. Hope you are all doing well. Will look forward to chatting you up in January.

I am doing my first full! I did the half this past January.
I think I would recommend you to stay just about anywhere on property. There are busses to transport you to the race and expo and we managed that ok. The first part I would recommend that your people could see you would be a couple of spots, one woud be in the Magic Kingdom, but they would have to get there oh so early to make that inside. I had a lot of people cheering me on in the lot by the Contemporary. They were not "my people" but other WISHers support team. We had lime green scarfs that someone gave to us at Trails End and the family saw mine and cheered for me too. That was great and I think it was a good spot. Then they could go anywhere monorail-wise to get to another location. Monorail will travel, roads will be closed.

We are staying in BWV and I am thinking my family may be there as I am leaving MGM going toward EPCOT. That would leave them enough time to get to the finish line out front of EPCOT maybe...not sure there.

I am also thinking that others who have been before me will have better ideas, some of them have been mentioned in previous marathon weekly threads if you have time to do a search for the threads and read up.

Good luck and I look forward to meeting you.

cherseyb- I am doing just the full on Sunday too but it's not my first marathon. I've done one stand alone and two with an itty-bitty swim-bike warm up(2.4 mi/112 mi). I'm hoping/planning to run it in about 4:30 or faster so that my next one can be in about 5 hours after the little swim-bike warm up. I hate running as a stand alone sport so it's a challenge to make myself train for it but the incentive is the Mickey medal. I can't think of a better course to run a marathon on as far as changing scenery goes. We are staying at SSR for a couple of reasons.

So triathlon season ended today. :umbrella: And just when is seems like I'm starting to race my way into shape. Of course since I didn't start racing until the end of August this year, it does seem a little abbreviated. My swimmer friend and I traveled north to central ME to do a sprint tri sponsored by the Colby College Nordic Ski Team. It was a first time event and reminded of many of the smaller, more grass roots tris I started racing in back in the mid to late 90s. Ten year age groups so I missed getting an award by one place but it was still a good race. Rained though and the baby (my bike) got filthy. Most times when I've gotten that muddy, it's been an off road triathlon. BTW, swimmer friend beat me out of the water by 2 minutes but I passed her on the bike and finished 3 minutes ahead of her. And she's only 23 as opposed to my 32.

See how I'm feeling tomorrow and either ride if it's icky or run long. It's only a couple weeks until the half marathon in Portland so more long runs are more geared toward that than where I need to be in the marathon training program at this point. Have a great week every one.

Checking in to say that we are finally in our house. Don't have time to catch up now - have to get back to unpacking boxes. Haven't done much of anything else lately but pack boxes, move boxes and unpack boxes. Not even any time to swim in the "noodle soup"! If anyone ever hears me mention moving again, please lock me up somewhere! Ugh! I hate moving! Now that I am back on line, I'll get back as soon as I can to catch up. Hopefully the unpacking will go smoothly and I can get into some kind of regular training routine soon. Right now I'm thinking that training will be a whole lot easier than all this moving! :earseek:
