View Full Version : What good are the Disny Dollars?

What good are Disney Dollars and why is everyone so eager to get them?

On our first trip we returned a stroller and they gave us our deposit back in DD. We ended up throwing it away actually, not knowing it could be spent at the park. I thought it was play cash.

So, I read a LOT of threads where people are looking to buy DDs and have been wondering why!?!

Please, enlighten me. Is there something DDs can buy that greenbacks cannot?

The only special and great thing about Disney Dollars is that you cant spend them somewhere else beside Disney.
So if you want to save some money for your upcoming trip and you are not sure on spending your money elsewhere...Disney Dollars are a great offer.

Also as a gift for children when you know they are going to WDW soon they are great.

Where can you buy disney dollars ?

They had them at the Disney Store, but I don't know if they do anymore... it's perfect if you want to throw a $5 in a Christmas present or as an incentive for something. Basically it's like having a gift certificate. One year I threw some in everyone's christmas presents and everyone loved it. My only stipulation was that my parents couldn't use it on anyone but themselves. :)

They do still sell them at the disney stores. My parents just picked some up at the mall here in Atlanta to give to my daughter for our upcoming trip.

Just back from my morning mall walk, and the Disney Store in my mall just re-opened this past Friday. Love the new design!!!

They had Disney Dollars, and a sale started today. Backpacks are $5.99, Lunchtotes $3.99, Wallets $1.99. Really cute girls princess ponchos $7.99.
Boys long sleeve Rugby shirts $7.99 and lots more.

I just want to add that I pay my kids in DD when we are planning a Disney trip. If I gave them cash, anytime we went shopping they'd feel the need to buy something. It is one lass hassle I need to listen to. Plus, they seem to want to do extra chores for them. I have also paid them in DD for doing the summer workbooks for keeping their academic skills sharp. They are just so fun! My brother just gave me some and they have Stich on them--too cute!

I like to save them for our souvenir/snack money. Every time I go to the mall, I stop in the store for 5-10 Disney Dollars (rather than buying a snack at the mall)-- however much we have accumulated by the time we go on our trip, is the amount we have to spend on souvenirs / snacks-- stops us from overspending.

I love DDs. We are taking my DBIL, his best friend and my best friend to WDW in October. One of my WDW rules is, whoever travels with us gets some kind of gift/goodie to add some magic right from the start. Disney Dollars are ALWAYS part of the gift. They KNOW they HAVE to spend them on something special/frivolous/whatever! And no one thinks we are trying to supplement their budget, because they aren't "real" money (but of course they are in WDW!)

I just joined Creations Rewards 2 months ago and am about to cash in for another $25 in DD (already cashed in for $50).

I just think Disney Dollars are a lot of fun. No, there's nothing intrinsically special about them, nothing you can do with them that you can't do with U.S. currency. Before our May trip I converted our two kids' cash into Disney Dollars just to make it more fun for them, too. I bought $100 worth for myself. I can't explain WHY it's fun ... it is just IS for me.

I live right next door to Atlantic City. A lot of people like having casino chips. Where I grew up about 80 miles from here it was a fun tradition to give casino chips for someone's 21st birthday (the legal gambling age).

Think of Disney Dollars as a type of gift certificate. They can be given to your kids as Christmas or birthday gifts, used as a means of saving for your trip (since they can only be spent at WDW or the Disney Stores, you can't "dip" into them!), or just collected as souveniers.

I have used them as a means of saving for my trip several times; in fact, I have a stash of them in my safe right now towards my MouseFest expenses. And I also collect the $1 notes.

See my Disney Dollar page for everything you ever wanted to know about DD$:

I have 2 $50 VISA giftcards that will expire next month. They were rebates from Cingular for the cell phones we got. I plan to buy DD with the giftcards b/c I know that if I use the giftcards for anything else, the $$ I would have spent on the "anything else" will not go into my Disney Account. Since we're doing a trip to Anaheim next summer (got to make a countdown for that one) and the Disney Cruise as well, I'm sure that the DD will get spent somehow.

Plus, there's something fun about spending Mickey Money to get your Disney stuff.
