beware of the seagulls at the feeding areas, eg sealions and dolphins. threre are signs stating that you must not feed them as it will make them agressive. i had just bought fish for the sealions and was standing by the glass, when suddenly i was attacked. a seagull swooped down and took my tray of fish out of my hand gashing my thumb in the process. i had not gone anywhere the birds and was not expecting them to come at me. i would advise at giving children their own tray of fish to hold, in case this happens. it hurts

OH MY!!!
Did you bring it to the attention of anyone? I was having my boys have their own tray of fishes, now maybe I won't.

We also have been attacked while eating. Those birds are agressive and not scared of people. Leave a french fry unattened while you go to get napkins, and it's an open invitation. We ate at the restaurant across from the polar bears (the tables are outside) and saw birds take away fries from an unsuspecting tourist.

just cover the tray with your hand and keep it close. the gulls and egrets are opportunistic. if you get ambushed, take the tray back to the counter and they'll give you a replacement. when you go to the Shamu show, there's a great egret that always zooms in waiting to snatch fish when the show starts. and yes, all of the birds are addicted to french fries. throw a fry and a piece of a bun down and they'll eat the fry before the bread. what's weird is they love turkey legs...

The birds do get aggressive when it comes to snatching fish. The park does warn you about them. Last time I fed the dolphins a bird got my fish out of my fingers before the dolphin could. They are just too fast. LOL
The problem of birds at the outdoor seating areas is aggravated because so many people don't heed the "Do not feed the birds" signs. They know people will throw food to them so the birds hang out. Once when we were there a huge vulture was sitting up on the fence around the outdoor seating area. The people at the next table had left the remains of their meal sitting on the table rather than picking up after themselves. The vulture was trying to get enough courage to swoop down and take the meat away. LOL We ended up clearing the table for the "slobs" who thought it was someone elses job, so that we wouldn't have that huge bird swooping in "for the kill" <g>

We had the same thing happen to us at Seaworld. My DD was distraught when a bird appeared from no-where to snatch a fish from her hand just as she was about to drop it into the Dolphin's mouth. I should imagine the Dolphin wasn't too impressed either!
