I just don't understand why helicopter rescuers would rescue children and leave them alone at an evacuation point. :confused3
I understand that there is only so much room in the helicopter, but it seems like it would be more sensible to take one adult with the children so that there will be someone there to be responsible for them. By taking the children alone and separating them from any adult who is responsible for them, it seems like rescuers are creating more problems and confusion. I can't think of any good reason to leave a 6 yo in charge. With children that young, one adult should have been transported with them so they could take care of them. What's done is done here, but I think when the review of what went right/wrong with this situation occurs the SOP for this situation should definitely be that children need an adult if one is available.
Can someone who has experience with this sort of thing explain the reasoning? Perhaps I'm missing something here?
