I was wondering, has anyone ever lost weight doing Pilates? Or does it just tighten you up? Is it stretching, flexibility etc..?
I am thinking of joining a class here. I want to lose 10-15lbs.
I was going to do Pilates 2x a week for 1/2 hour, and then cardio 3x a week. Will I lose weight?
Thanks!

I lost 30 lbs with a combo of Pilates and South Beach. Pilates gives you energy, takes off inches fast, and it even stretches you. I grew an inch and a half!!! I recently got lazy about diet and excercise but I am starting back up.
I have several DVD's and videos. I like the Crunch workouts, particualrly Pick Your Spot Pilates. Well explained and its 3 easy 10 minute workouts. You do one or a combination, its up to you. Each workout targets a different trouble spot- tummy, buns, or thighs. I love it.

othermom :) -- i can't directly answer your weight loss using pilates question b/c i have done pilates in conjunction with other forms of exercise. however -- i prefer to practice yoga and pilates at least twice a week in my regular workout week. why? for a few reasons: stretching is VERY important and most often overlooked, yoga is a great way to focus on stretching and improve flexibility 2) a relaxing and enjoyable way to workout, and I need that incorportated in my routine so i don't burn out. i usually look forward to my pilates and/or yoga days 3) i believe pilates gives me a leaner look and really tones my legs and abs

i have QuickFix yoga and pilates that i LOVE - it is a staple in my workout for the past almost three years. It is 8 blocks of 10 min sessions you can mix and match. I just bought another 10 min pilates DVD that I really like too; it has either 5 or 6 straight pilate segments, 10 mins each to play in order or mix up for however long you want it to be

do you get FitTV? they have some pilates and yoga shows you can record and try. or check your library for DVDs to try. I think Denise Austin does a great job at explaining the exercises for newbies

Good luck! give it a try for a month! i think you'll like the difference :goodvibes

I signed up for the Pilates class last night! It goes for 1 month, then you can take it again, or sign up for the next level. I am excited. I just need to get rid of 15lbs that I have put on during the last few monthes...
