This holiday weekend, instead of picnics, BBQ or the beach, hundreds of volunteers were at the State Armory collecting donations. We collected, sorted, boxed and shrunk wrapped literally thousands of pallets of donated items. Then they were forklifted onto semis and off they went to Louisiana and Mississippi. It was great! People of all ages, races, nationalities, faiths, beliefs, military, police, just all sorts of people working hand in hand cooperatively. Thousands of cars pulled up to the donation area. We surrounded the cars and gave off great cheers of thanks, collected the items and went on. No fighting, no bickering. Just a massive well organized peaceful project.
FYI, the most donated item was water, the least donated item seemed to be jars of baby food. I'm going back Wednesday and possibly Friday. I've met some great people and enjoyed their comradery. What we have done is just a drop in the bucket, but if we all did a bit many buckets would be overflowing.
