DH is a lineman for the electric company. He came home yesterday and told me that they will all be taking 2 week shifts down south for the next year or more to help out. I guess the intial crews will drive down and the rest they will fly in and out. I am worried about snakes, he is worried about me. He will begin the beg. of Oct.

Both of you stay safe!
I think the snakes have moved north of town by now!

It is great that he is willing and able to do this. Are they really rotating the crews back every 2 weeks? That's very good if they are. Honestly, I feel that the utilities are MUCH better prepared with their disaster backup plans than the government is. The linemen and engineers from my old work busted their humps under very adverse conditions to restore service many times. I admire them greatly for that. Has your DH ever done a post-disaster rollout before? It's very tough, but I never talked to anyone who regretted taking such an assignment. In fact, most of my former co-workers returned talking about how warm, kind and thankful the people in the communities they helped out were.

Please tell your husband thank you.
If anyone "belongs" to someone from the North Houston utility co. (sorry, all I could make out on the truck was North Houston) PLEASE give them a big hug for me. They worked hard to restore the power in our area and did it quickly and efficiently.
ETA: Didn't mean to leave out Entergy. I know it wouldn't have been possible without them.

DH has never done this before. He has always stayed behind because the kids were little and did back-up here. He really has no choice with this one, even though he would do it in a second. From what he said they are all going to have go done at one point or another!

Thank you to all the power companies that have helped us. Our power was restored yesterday. The power companies have done such a great job! There was so much debris around here. I just can't imagine the things they have seen. Tell your husband thank you from all of us down here!

Will do, you guys can return the favor by keeping me company and sane for the next year lol. Wow we haven't told the kids yet. I need to talk to work because when he is gone I cannot work late nights. The kids have dance, confirmation, basetball, play practice. Yikes...I will be insane. :rotfl:
