Yesterday at the kids school, my friend and a teacher said she and her husband were taking a truck to Mississippi to her sister who lost everything! The neighbors had set up homes together of what is left.

We sent a note home with the children and the response was overwhelming. The cargo van they planned to take was WAY too small. He ended up taking a 25 foot Uhaul filled with generators, small friges, personal items, flashlights, batteries,Baby supplies, water, linens and food, etc. Not to mention a WAD of cash!!!!!!! Please send prayers and :wizard: for their trip!

Whoo Hoo for the kindness of strangers and a beautiful lesson to the children.

My daughter said, Mom I am so tired from packing and sorting but today was a great day!

I just HAD to share this happy story.

My DSIL, DBIL and their 2 kids are displaced form New Orleans, don't know when they can return. They are living in Ohio with the rest of the family! Please keep them in your thoughts too!

Thanks! Nancy

God bless them for helping. I;m sure it will all be greatly appreciated. I wish I livedn closer to the area to be able to do that. There was a guy on the news the other day that did the same thing. Just dropped it off and went home. He said they need that alot.

Hi, I live in the Baton Rouge area. Thank you all for your prayers and help, but please be aware that we have many issues here in the Gulf Coast area. Traveling down here to drop off things is wonderful but be aware that we have a severe shortage of gas. Probabley 2 out of every 10 gas station has gas. The gas stations that do have gas have very long lines. In Mississippi many areas are still without electricity due to all the wind damage from Katrina, so many gas stations that have gas can't operate their pumps. Please be safe and plan well if anyone is thinking of coming down here.

I;m sure you all must be desperate for fuel. Up north i drove past 3 empty gas stations this morning. I just can't imagine down ther.

Around here the gas is not just a necessity for travel but for power. If you are lucky enough to have a generator you must have fuel to power it. In a lot of rural areas both in Mississippi and Louisiana they have well water. You can't get water out of a well without power to pump the water. Things will get better each day, but it will take a long time to rebuild. The electric companies have been wonderful. Everyday more and more power is restored. Supplies are starting to get distributed. Hopefully everyday things will get more coordinated. I just pray that this hurricane season ends quickly and quietly!

It seems that relief is getting their quicker now. So hopefully the physical suffering will be over soon. For whatever reason they got an incredibly slow start. I hope when all is said and done all large cities are required to form extensive emergency plans for disasters like this. Withthe advent of terrorist attacks I think it is imperative. I thought all larger cities had contingency plans for every possible disaster but obviously i was wrong. Maybe something useful will come of this tragedy.
