Our local Law Enforcement Auxiliary sent an email to members today and I thought some of you may be interested and want to help.
"DARE America has received an urgent email request for assistance from officers in Louisiana and Mississippi. Officers in Mississippi and Louisiana need work pants (BDUs, jeans, etc), boots, shoes, shirts,t-shirts and underwear.
Send to:
Madison Co. Sheriff's Dept.
Attn: Sheriff Toby Trowbridge Jr.
2941 Hwy 51 South
Canton, MS 39046
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office
Attn: Commander Bobby Robinson
5400 East Broad Street
Lake Charles, LA 70615
Excerpt of email received by DARE America, 'along the coast they have sent word through NCIC that clothing is needed for the officers who live there and cannot leave but yet have no homes, no clothes, nothing.. If you know of someplace (even officers that have used work clothing that could donate pants (BDUs, jeans, etc), boots, shoes, shirts, etc........'"
Just wanted to pass this info on.

Hi, I don't know about clothes for officers on the coast, but my brother is a Rankin County sherriff's deputy. He is among several that are going down tomorrow, on the coast, to offer assistance in any way they can.

I just printed ut a bunch of copies to hand out to people. I'll pass it along to a friend who just retired from the NYPD, as well as my brother -in -law who is a NJ cop.

I believe he was leaving at about 3am this morning. I haven't spoken to him as he is still without power, water and phone service. My mother told me last night...she is still without power and is on a boil water alert. She does have phone service, though. I will ask her to find out if there is anything else they need....if she even get's to speak to him... now that he's left.

Do they need special boots? I think my husband has a pair of steel-toed boots from his old job that he doesn't wear. They are not police issue, but if they can use them, I'd be happy to send them out - if I can find them.
What about t-shirts?

So glad to see so many of you wanting to help.
kelleigh1 - I don't think they need any special types of boots. (I would hope that no one would argue with them about being out of uniform at a time like this).
They didn't specify what kinds of t-shirts so I would think any kind would do. I figured we would send white t-shirts because they're usually cooler.
Thanks everyone!

Arrrrggg! I just recently got rid of ALL of my late husbands clothes - the majority of which he never even got to wear.. :(
I'll pass the word on to our group here - add it to the list of things we hope to get out early next week..
I'm SOOOO glad that these kinds of posts are popping up now with specific needs.. For days now we haven't known what else to do except throw money at the problem.. While I know the money is extremely helpful, it seems to be taking quite a bit of time before the end result is met..
Thanks for posting this! :flower:

Just checked with hubby...the pair of boots I was thinking about we'd already donated to another organization last year. He does have a pair of waterproof boots that he doesn't wear any longer. They're not in perfect condition, but there aren't any holes or anything in them.
Let me see what else we can get together.

Mad4Mickey ~ No specific sizes. I think they need a variety for all the officers. My understanding is that many officers have lost everything themselves but are still trying to work.
C.Ann ~ I couldn't agree with you more. I like the idea of being able to help someone or a particular group. I'm glad that our auxiliary got this info and I could pass it on!
Again, thanks to all.

Thanks for this thread!
We're on it in Miami, although it will be Tuesday before we can really get started, because of the holiday weekend.
What about officers' homes? What do they need?
Thanks again,
Jim

JimMIA - I've emailed the officer that had passed the info on to our auxilliary and asked him if he has any more information or if he can get any more info. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from him.
Thanks!

Jim - and all others :sunny:
I've received a little more information. Below are quotes from the emails that I received today:
"Anyone who wants to help cops specifically, please call:
Johnny Frederick 225-571-2410
He is working with the FOP for distributions mainly to officers affected
and/or displaced by the storm.
Some of these officers (Jefferson Parish S/O that I know of) are working
out of an abandoned warehouse with no electricity, water or other
amenities.
Others of us (Baton Rouge PD) are just working long hours, and most have
their utilities working again, as we only got some moderate property
damage.
Please feel free to give this number to whomever wishes to help.
These guys are working their butts off, while many of the 'troops' are
unaccounted for...and a number are feared no longer with us...
John Spann"
And here is info from the other email that I received today about another agency requesting help for officers:
"Louisiana State Police is asking Law Enforcement for packages of socks,
tee shirts, underwear, sports bras and women's underwear or some light
sleepwear.
These should be new and still in the package. A variety of sizes is
requested and mostly men's garments.
These can be delivered to the LSP Warehouse on Independence or contact
Shannon Anderson at (225) 925-6014."
I will call tomorrow to get a mailing address for LSP and will post it tomorrow. This may cut down on the number of calls they receive.
Thanks to all of you that have pm'd me for additional info. Hope we can all pull together and send some much needed items to these officers!!!!
THANKS!
Miss Jasmine
