Just a question, because I know there are a bunch of military families out there.

My DH was asked about 6 times to volunteer to go with his Guard unit, but he had to turn them down. He is starting a new job on September 12, and he figures since he is headed to Iraq next April, he should forgo this one. He wishes he could, but now is not the right time (for those of you that remember all the job struggles he has had!). Fortunately, his unit had so many people willing to go, they have been turing away volunteers left and right. DH is doing his part today, on his day off, of helping to load up some KC-130's that are headed out today.

Anyone else?

My BIL, who spent 13 months in Iraq from Feb. 2003 to March 2004, is on alert right now with his army reserve unit. He could be sent anytime and could be there 2-4 months.
He is in a quartermaster unit, which sets up shower facilities, fresh water, etc. where needed--I imagine that is quite in demand.

My SIL is in Mississippi with DMAT (Disaster Medical Asst. Team) under FEMA. She has been there since Saturday afternoon....before the storm hit.

Nope not here. DH is in a combat engineer unit. No need for them right now.

DS is at a base that will be closing soon and when I talked to him yesterday, he said that they had spent the last 48 hours loading supplies on airplanes including MREs and medical supplies. Because he is stationed overseas with a combat unit, he won't be going to NO right now, but once he comes back to the states, he said that he maybe sent to NO.

Nope, DH is deployed right now. Others from his squadron are going, though.

No, my dh is leaving for Iraq in a couple of weeks. After he leaves, I'll be going down to the gulf with some Red Cross workers for who knows how long. I hope somehow I have some way of communicating with my dh by then.

They had asked the guard here for volunteers but with the war, it's just taken such a toll on the traditional guard. So they were called up officially here and will be leaving tomorrow.

they had me call all our guys and ask for possible volunteers (transportation unit) the civil engineers down the hall did the same. Got the list together Thurs but so far they haven't asked for anything. I know of 2 other ANG units that sent either cops or are flying in supplies and a local army guard (transportation) that was activated.

My DS is in USMC and has been on alert for going to NO. He said 15 from his unit have already been sent. The rest are just waiting now. I expect more will be going before too long.

I last talked to DH last night, they arrived safely in Gulfport Monday night, and were just waiting to find out where they are going. I guess cell service isn't too good, I havn't heard from him today.

My DSIL is on alert....I think that is what it is called to go to the Gulfport area to help. He is an AF officer and would head up a team of soldiers doing some of the repair/cleanup..He could be there for months.
