View Full Version : Here is how you can help Stephanie (MrsKreamer) **Updated 9/12**

Stephanie PM'd me to let me know specifically what she needs. She doesn't have much computer access right now, so she can't post things herself and thank people personally, but she really needs help.
They need clothes. She wears a 22/24, and her DH wears 2X/3X and 42w 32l pants. Her DS is outgrowing his 18 month clothes and needs 24 months. She says they don't have much fall/winter stuff for him at all.
She wears size 11 shoes and says she needs tennis shoes. Like a true DISer, she came away with only her Crocs. ;)
They need soap, mild shampoo, deoderant, and other basic toiletries.
Her DS wears size 5 diapers. They're in the process of weaning him, and they have enough formula. He likes Gerber Graduates.
Stephanie is 23, her DH is 23, and their DS will be one on September 22.
They can use Wal-Mart and Target gift cards.
She has opened a PayPal account at someone else's suggestion. She made a point to tell me that she doesn't want to seem greedy, but they do need help. It's Mrskreamer@yahoo.com.
They're in Dallas right now, but they'll be moving to Houston to stay with friends on Monday. She'll give me her address then. They'll probably have to stay there for 2-3 months.
I know that we can pull together and really do something great for the Kreamer family. Let's try to get them the things they need without overwhelming them with "stuff"--she made a point of saying they're living out of a suitcase and don't have much space. I think we should probably post here about what we're getting them, since they really will only need 1-2 each of things like soap, shampoo, etc.
I'm going to bed now, but tomorrow I'm going to get some clothes together. I can't remember if I have much 24 month stuff in winter clothes, but I know I have summer things, and it will be summer in Houston for a while longer.
I know a lot of us are frustrated with how slowly help is coming to the people displaced by the storm. This is a good way for us to help a family directly with the things they really need.
**UPDATE 9/2***
I talked to Stephanie on the phone. She's really overwhelmed and grateful for all the people willing to help. She kept telling me over and over to tell you all thank you.
I asked who Kurt Jr's favorite character is. She said it's Elmo. She mentioned that he normally can watch Sesame Street any time he wants at home because they have TV. Now he keeps looking at the TV wondering why Elmo isn't on it. She didn't even hint at it, but I think some Sesame Street DVDs, VCR tapes, books, etc., would be great.
**UPDATE 9/6**
They have settled in Arkansas in her FIL's house now. Someone they know was able to look at their house. They have a few feet of water, and their roof will have to be replaced.
I'm PMing her address now. I probably won't be able to finish it tonight. If you just PM'd me a few days ago for her address and didn't post on this thread, please post or PM me again. I deleted the posts that came in as I replied to them so I didn't fill up my PM box, and now I don't know who had PM'd me.
**UPDATE 9/12**
Boston Tea Party met up with the Kreamers this weekend and gave them all the things that had been shipped to Houston. You can see her post, with pictures, on page 9.

No boy or winter stuff---but would it be bad to go check out Goodwill and that kind of stuff?
And will you have an address to ship these things?
Kermit
09-01-2005, 11:49 PM
I'll have her address on Monday. I'll PM it to people who ask me for it.
I think that going to Goodwill is fine. I was thinking that we should probably try to stick to easy-to-fit things, since we don't know if he has short legs, a chubby tummy, or whatever. Knits with elastic waists will be much better for her than things like blue jeans, since some babies can only wear certain brands in clothes like that because of the fit.
Also, as a mom of big babies myself, it's important to look when you start buying 24 month and 2T clothes that they have snaps in the crotch. Her DS will obviously be in diapers for quite a while longer, but sometimes clothes that size are for potty trained kids.

I don't want to sound insensitive, but wouldn't it be better, instead of going to Goodwill, to add the equivalent of what you'd spend in dollars, to her Paypal account?
They have second hand stores in Houston, and then she'd be able to get exactly what she needs, what fits, etc. and there wouldn't be any shipping expense or possible mail foul ups.
Even gift cards would be preferable to buying stuff and then shipping it. It would only be the cost of a stamp, not the cost of sending a package.
If people already have stuff that's in useable condition, that she can use, then it makes sense to pay to ship it. But to buy stuff, and then ship it? That doesn't seem very cost-effective.
Just something to think about.

Hi,
I have also posted and send/recieved a PM from ANTSS2001, on her thread regarding this family. I did not realize, however, that they were on their way to Houston. I am in Houston, and have a ton of boy clothing, toys, etc. My DS is about to turn 3. I have some nice play clothes, christmas outfits, halloween costumes, toys and books, etc. Also I have the Entertainment Book which I have not hardly used that she would be welcome to have, with the coupons for grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Since she might be here for a couple of months, that might be helpful. I wanted to post on this board also regarding this family to make sure that the itmes that I have will get to them.

Also, I would be more than happy to donate any personal items they may need: shampoo, wipes, diapers, etc. I would love to be able to give them a care package when they get to Houston!
PLEASE tell them to contact the Red Cross. I just happened upon something at the Birmingham Red Cross web site about how they give a Red Cross "credit card" to these people that evacuated and they shop with them. They shop at America's Thrift Stores in Alabama. I even shop there so it's not all junk stuff!! I am sure they have the same set up in Texas especially since they are sending all these folks to Houston. Please tell her to contact the red cross there for help!!!

Wow! I knew we had a lot of amazing people here who would be willing to help, but this is amazing.
Cheri (bumcat) lives in Houston and has offered her address so that people can mail things to her now, and then she can deliver things to the Kreamers as soon as they arrive. I'm in the process of PMing everybody her address now. If you get more than one PM that's exactly the same from me, I'm sorry. I've started to confused as to who I've done and who I haven't done because there are so many, which is such a blessing.
If anyone wants to help but won't be able to get things together to mail for a few days, I'll post when I do get Stephanie's "permanent" (for the next few months) address, and then you can ask me for that address if you need it.

I just talked to Stephanie on the phone. She sounded so grateful that people were willing to help her. My heart just broke when I heard the relief in her voice when I called her.
Someone said to ask who Kurt Jr's favorite character is. That's a great idea, so I did ask. It's Elmo. Also, she mentioned that it's been kind of hard keeping him entertained because they have Tivo and can watch Sesame Street any time they want at home. We have two people at my office here in Boston who have family in the affected areas.
A guy in our accounting office, his family is from New Orleans. We don't have too many details, but he knows that everyone is safe. His mother was staying at a hotel until today, when she left with a couple of his cousins to head off to another city to try and find work. She worked for a company which had various offices around the country and she's hoping that she can relocate to another location. Once she settles, we'll be sending stuff off to her.
Our HR director has extended family in the south (I'm not sure which state)...family that she is still waiting to hear from. She hasn't talked about it too much, so we're still trying to find out what she may need or what they are going to need.
Charity begins at home! My office is my home. DIS has become my home. Hopefully we'll be able to help the majority of the people out there who need it after this tragedy.

I know that there are other DISers who need our help, and I hope that we can do just as much for them, too. I just picked a person and started there. I'd do someone else, but I'd hate to stop changing my kids' diapers because I was too busy sending PMs. :teeth:
If anyone reading this has been displaced by the hurricane, please feel free to start your own thread telling people what you need, or PM someone you "know" on the boards to do it for you.
BTW, I'll send out more PMs later this afternoon. I only have a few minutes right now at my computer. I'm still working on finding an uncle who was in a nursing home. If anyone knows where Jefferson Healthcare nursing home evacuated to, please let me know. :(

Well since you named the baby Jacob, I'll let it slide!
You're doing a great thing and I hope you don't think we mean anything negative towards you. Not in the least. I'm just hoping that we can get more DISer's to let us know that they are in need too. We definitely want to help and I'd feel more comfortable helping those I know with things they really need since who knows when my donation to the organizations might get there or how they'll be used. This way we'll have direct impact.

I don't want to take anything away from this post and the help going out to Stephanie (MrsKreamer) but AuntieM03 asked if there were other people that the people from Disboards could help so I wanted to respond on here.
I have started a thread requesting help for officers in Louisiana and Mississippi. The link is:

Please PM me her address as well. My hubby is pretty big too and I always find big men's clothing really reduced at Sears, $40 shirts for $5 and $6 dollars. I'll go up and see what they have available right now. I know she said she lacked wintery thing, but short sleeved stuff would be good in that area, wouldn't it? That's what will be on sale right now!
I'll look around for Sesame Street dvds too.

Okay, I've answered all my PMs and posts up to 107. Let me know if I left you out.
I've been on the DIS for years and have sent out about 10 times more PMs today than I had in all the time before now. Thanks to all of you! I'm glad we can help the Kreamers and the other families affected by Katrina on the DIS!

I'd like to know about the paypal too. I have a ton of ebay auctions ending tomorrow night and would like to pass some of that money on.
My only concern is are we sure she can access that money??? Will she be able to transfer the money to her bank account or does she have a paypal debit card? Also, I know she has limited internet access, but they will only hold the fund for a limited amount of time before they return them to the donaters.
If someone could please give a more definitive answer on her being able to use the paypal money, that would be great.
Otherwise, I'd like to be PM'd an address and I'll send along a Walmart gift card.

I just received an email from Paypay that the money is still sitting there unclaimed. I think I read that she did not currently have access to a computer, but she would soon. Could someone confirm this. I am going to post this on another thread just to make sure I get an answer.
Edit: I got an answer. Thanks!

Okay, the PMs have all been sent. If you still want her address, just post to this thread or PM me. If I missed you somehow, please let me know. I've sent 275 PMs in the past few days. I confused at a few points along the way and could have easily overlooked someone.

I have a big box packed and ready to ship to Arkansas. I put in lots of shirts for Stephanie and her DH. Some for winter and some that will be good this fall while it's still warm. Just need to go pick up some packing tape. Mine has disappeared. I'll ship it Monday.

Thanks Amy for the PM.
I was able to cancel my payment at Paypal to the wrong address and resend it to the correct email with no problem what so ever. Since the other emial address was not valid the money was never claimed.

I just wanted to thank everyone. I pmed everyone individually to thank them privately. The only two ladies who sent me cards and I do not know there Dis names. SO thank you to Michelle in CA and Staci in Rapids. Thank you for what you sent.
Everyone's generous gifts have shown a light in this dark time of my life. My little one is stating to adjust and is actually smiling and playing again, thanks to everyone who sent him toys and books! I have to go, I don't get much time on the internet, but I cannot express how thankful I am!
Lots of love and God Bless
Stephanie
Special thanks to Kermit, BostonTeaParty, and Bumcat for getting things to me, and making all the special arrangments.
Did I miss a post about the Paypal? Mine is still unclaimed. Was there a change to the paypal email address? :confused3
Yes, you must have missed the message. Here's a link:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=910093
You just need to log in to Paypal, cancel the original transaction and re-send it to the correct e-mail address. Mine has since been claimed, so it is correct now. :)
