I'll continue to pray for them. I know you must be worried. I'll ask God to heal them of "stuff-itis". :( They've been through a lot, and it's probably hard for them to think clearly.

No, actually they do not have to leave. My friends dad isn't leaving. He's holed up in his house--it's one of those "old mansions" on St. Charles. He's got the third floor set for the long run with non-perishable food, bottled water, battery operated tv and tons of batteries, flashlights, etc. He filled all the tubs in the house so he can continue to flush the toilet. He's also got a shotgun, and will not hesitate to shoot ANYONE who even thinks about trying to enter his home.

Actually - they do HAVE to leave - that is what they mean by a mandatory evacuation

those who ignored the mandatory evacuation prior to the hurricane are now costing money and valuable resources to be rescued

ignoring another mandatory evacuation is selfish and stupid

how long should rescue workers continue to risk their lives for people who refused to help themselves when they could?

Actually, in this case, "mandatory" doesn't mean mandatory. It pretty much means that you are on your own. He's willing to accept the risk that he could have a situation where he needs help and won't get it. He's not cost anyone anything for rescue, in fact as of an hour ago, he still had not flooded. There was a bit of water in the street, but it would have to rise at least two more feet before it began lapping at the doors.

There are a very few places in NOLA that have a bit of elevation, he is in one of those few. And like I said, he's in a three story brick structure, so the flooding would have to rise above 30 feet before he began to get his feet wet.

The whole city has to leave--it is closed. He isn't going to last forever in there. There are absolutely no services and will not be for months.

I'm sure when they are done bussing out the masses--they'll start picking up those left behind.

I agree.. Very hard to think rationally under those circumstances.. :(
