Count me in, I live in Houston, and my neighbor has family in Houma (not far from New Orleans), I have already told her to let me know what her family/community needs!
I have quite a few items my kids have outgrown that are in great shape...be happy to pass them on.

First and foremost, count me in. We have ladies and mens as well as a few childrens things (DD actually lives with her mom-guess that makes her DSD but I wish she was mine). And would be willing to send money or carepackages that are needed.
Second, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who answers myself when I start asking questions...and I usually do it out loud (which scares a lot of people).
I have a lot of kids clothes as does a friend of mine. She has actual bags and bags of girls clothes. I would be willing to send what I have and ask her about sending hers.
Count on me, i have lots of girls clothes!
count me in :goodvibes :goodvibes
We dont have much.... but after these days of hurricane reports I feel very blessed to have my little house and possessions.
Please, if there is anyone who knows of someone who needs anything, just ask.....
I would love to help in any way I can....every little bit helps!!
Count me in for adult clothes at the least.
I am in. Just send me a PM now and again for a reminder because sometimes I forget to come to this board. I have mostly ladies clothes right now but I will keep looking around my home.
Let me go through my clothes in the basement that are slated for Goodwill and I will contact you if I have anything that might be useable
I can definitely help with baby boy clothes, sent you a pm.
I'm sure I can find things to be sent that are needed. Count me in.
Count me in. I have boys 9 & 10, mens and womens clothes.
Count me in too !!
I have teen boys clothes as well as some mens and womens, just let me know what to send...
Count me in! I have all sorts of stuff-Just let me know...I can send diapers, baby blankets, whatever-let me know!
I have teen girl clothes - a bunch junior size 3-5; some 11-13. Also would love to make up some care packages to send out. I wonder if there is a way to adopt a family or something. If someone decides to organize this - I will do whatever I can to help.
I"ll check and see what we have.
I can help with boys clothes and the 2x womens.
PM sent.

Just saw the "what Dis'ers are missing due to Katrina Thread" Guess that will be our source point. We would know who would need something and what.. the sad part is that we will only find out when katrina calm down and I hope it is soon

Another idea might be to sell things on ebay and give the profits to the American Red Cross.

Right now we have one who can use some clothes for a 24 months old baby boy and his bday is around the corner. Also some 2x and 3x mens outfit shirts, shorts etc...and 2x womens outfits. We will have an address by Friday, hopefully if there's anybody who can help PM me and I will PM back the information. I believe that it is better that we will not disclose the recipients information on the thread but only to those who will send them stuff. Again thank you for all your interest.

Ok I came up with some questions... Some may be too soon to answer..

1. Is there an address where we can send items to? One that will go directly to our "dis" families who were affected..

2. How many "dis" families do we have that lived or have family or friends that were destroyed due to katrina??

3. Is there a way to get them money and not just itmes or should we stick with items for now? I am guessing that because of the severe damage, there may be no place left or supplies close enough that they can buy some new items with the donated money..

these are just a few questions I have floating through my brain as I sit here and watch the news all night...

Since I live in Houston where a lot of people are coming to, one thing that the local news stations, etc. are requesting are prepaid cards like from Wal-Mart etc., these could be used for gas, clothing, food, almost anything. This might be a good way of sending something to others here on the DIS. :goodvibes

Our second family was just located! Family consist of Mom, Dad, and 2 kids ages 11 and 13. Our family is a sister of our fellow Dis'er. That's all the info she was able to share since they just found them. Pls. be patient, I know this is in a slower process right now but just keep your heart open and bag an extra " patience ". I will post or maybe PM YOU when I get the specific sizes and a physical address. Another good suggestion was mentioned above... about US sending CARE PACKAGES! Please keep our ideas growing. God Bless....

This would be done through the Red Cross, but something some of you may consider:

Contact your local radio stations to challenge them to ask your communities to pitch in and donate any monies they can. They are saying that money is what is needed the most right now. The stations can take up the donations, and then bring them to Red Cross.

One of our local stations was at a local business today with the Red Cross to collect donations. It seemed to go very well. (I did not set this up) I am contacting another station north of here to see if they will do the same thing. Also, our local race track is taking donations this Saturday, and there is another race on Sunday that the Red Cross will be there to take donations.

I think every little bit will help right now! I don't have much, but I am giving what I can! This disaster just rips my heart out ~ I can hardly stand to have the television on......I just cannot even imagine having to personally experience this nightmare. My heart goes out to all of those affected....may God bless you.

It's devastating.

I also have another suggestion, regarding the monetary contributions, just heard about it the other day, the McCormick Foundation is matching funds, $.50 to your $1.00, up to 1 million (they were at $330,000 as of this morning :cheer2: ), so if anyone is interested in getting more bang for their buck - here's a link (hope this is ok) http://mccormicktribune.org/ if you check out their sources, you'll see they are teamed with not just my locale, but with companies, radio stations, TV stations, all over the U.S.

UPDATE: Due to reaching 1 million already(!) they are increasing their matching dollars to 2 million! This is fabulous news imo! :cheer2: Give if you can! :grouphug:

Have to get up at 5:30AM to pick up the truck I rented at 6:30AM to load all the cases of water I collected from friend and families and old co workers... I was in tears when I saw how much water we have in less than 2 days... it may not be alot of $$$ but word of mouth is the best tool... everybody was handing me to buy a case for them... Please keep up the faith.... God Bless and have a safe Labor day holiday weekend. I will be back late in the afternoon and Sunday I will be playing in my kitchen making cakes for my bake sale at the park Monday! Let's just hope my kids dont finish them before we get to the park :rotfl2: they are also setting up a booth next to my bake sale selling soda perfect combination. God Bless Us All... :grouphug:
