If they are in the Baton Rouge area, they are likely okay, just without power. I have heard of any major injuries or deaths in Baton Rouge, and that's where my local news comes from.

Yes, from what I can see MS got hit hard! I am one of the lucky ones that lives in MS that never even lost power! We did get some pretty nasty weather though. They even closed walmart yesterday! You know it's bad when walmart closes! Rumor is there are atleast 30 people that died in the southern part of the state, possibly more. :guilty: (I live in the northern part so I wasn't in the direct path, just got the bad weather like rain and terrible winds.) Please remember everyone in your prayers tonight! Hope everyone is okay!

Thanks for starting this thread. I have a house full of refugees, friends and family from New Orleans and Metaire. They are doing this exact same thing, getting info through message boards to co workers, church members, family members, even the teens are seeking out their school friends.

So many people evacuated, everyone is scattered. If you

We are planning for having our group for quite a while.

We have power in our neighborhood but many in Baton Rouge were still without power yesterday. Schools are closed indefinitely, only 15 of the 90 public schools in our parish has power.

Thanks for your prayers, keep em coming.

Based on what I remember from tarmand's posts, I think she's in Livingston Parish. They're probably still without power, but west of most of the devastation of the New Orleans metro area.

I do remember her commenting on having a long commute, but don't remember if she headed to the North Shore, New Orleans or Baton Rouge. We know the state of 2 of those 3 areas. Hopefully she's just waiting for power / internet to kick back in.

Just remembered BengalBelle is from Livingston Parish as well. I'm guessing same situation as tarmand. Parts of that parish are very rural, lots of big trees. It might be a few more days before they get power because they have to clear away the debris before they can start fixing the power lines.

Also lots of issues with lack of cell phone & land line phone service.

Best wishes to both of these ladies as they're enduring the sweltering heat! Hope they're back soon.

I heard from Tarmand on Sunday and she told me she was far enough out that she should be okay - I have checked news in her parish and there is only confirmed death in the area - a 45 year old man - they have widespread power outages

I also talked with BengalBelle REALLY late on Sunday - I think it was 3 am and she told em that they were fine but she was pretty sure she would be losing power shortly

according to the Livingston newspaper - power is slowly being restored in the area - hopefully we will hear from them soon!!

Tarmand posted on another thread 2 hours ago:

Hi guys! It's tarmand here. I just wanted to tell my friends that I'm glad you guys were thinking of me. My family is fine. We are about 60 miles north of New Orleans and were well prepared for the storm. We had very minimal damage, but are without power, phone and internet. I'm not complaining at all - we feel very lucky. My husband has some relatives that decided to wait out the storm near the lakes in New Olreans and we aren't sure if they are okay, but everyone else in our family evacuated New Orleans safely. I work near New Orleans and haven't been able to return yet. I'm not sure if my co-workers are okay - I am using a computer in our home office in Baton Rouge. It is horrible to see what has happened in our state as well as our neighboring states. Please, if you are a praying person, pray for the lives that were lost and for the people who still need rescuing. My sisters and I plan to donate our time this weekend with the Red Cross. Our hope is to start some sort list of the people in shelters so that families who were separated can find each other. The Red Cross is not helping families to find each other and to see so many people desperate to know about the well being of their other family members is saddening. We aren't sure how we will go about it, or if the Red Cross will even allow us to gather the information, but my sister is going to go by their office tomorrow to find out. My sister in Houston can check this thread for me if anyone has any ideas or would be willing to help.

I heard from Desiree and to add...They are at her folks house, electricity just came on a bit ago (hence an email), have been using a generator past few days. She has had contact with relatives in the NO area, they all seem okay, alive, not injured. She said 4 sets of family members have lost their homes completely and thinks they will not go back. She said her own house and that of her folks was not damaged, she will be trying to return to work tomorrow. They are in the Baton Rouge area. Des asks for prayers and good thoughts for them and all the others affected and appreciates our concern, very much.

Hi everyone. I'm just in tears with all the kind people that are here on the DIS. We like so many others fared well in Baton Rouge. Just without power and that's NOTHING compared to what the people in New Orleans and Mississippi are going through right now. I'd gladly give up power any everything else just for a stop in the devestation. I just cannot believe my eyes. It's like watching a disaster movie.

For what it's worth, we've been riding the storm out at my parents house. They had a generator that was able to run fans and the fridge. And they just got their power back on. We checked at our house a while ago and it's still out there.

We have about 4 sets of family members that are refugees at the present. So we've been trying to call all day long to find shelter or rent homes for them. I doubt they decide to go back to the coast though. (Most of them lived below New Orleans in Empire, LA). Please keep them in your prayers as well. They are more than likely homeless and jobless.

God bless you all for all your kind thoughts and prayers. I think everyone is going to be needing them much more in the days to come.

I was packed and ready, my son was going to his security job at the river. They sent him home, I called the hospital and found out we had 7 patients and 7 nurses to care for them. I had called the hospital earlier, was hysterical at the time, and they assumed I had called in (I was so upset the supervisor said I would not be much good. I woulda coped, but this was my biggest fear happening). So I said good enough, I just did, and left with my son. I have been dealing with guilt since, but from all I hear they are hanging in...no new patients coming in because nobody can get there.

My house was standing 3 hours ago, but I have heard another levee broke...if it was near my house I may now be under 10-20 feet of water. Then there are the looters. Not much I can do but wait it out.

My sister lives in an outlying area and when there is electricity and sewerage we will move there. If the hospital still wants and needs me I will go back to work and if they fire me, I understand. Thanks all for your concern. :)

Idroveallnight who is a frequent poster on the "fireman wife thread" and an active Diser lives in Mobile, Alabama and she has not personally posted since Monday morning.

Her mother GrannyWishes has posted on the "fireman wife thread" that Idroveallnight and her family are safe and has minimal damage. She has no electricity and won't for quite some time.

I'm so happy she's safe!!

I posted this last night and I am happy to say that Idroveallnight just posted on the "fireman wife thread" and she is doing okay. This news makes my entire evening!!!!

I'm so happy I'm in tears! Mary Ann is fine. She rode out the storm in Meridian, MS with her BF and his family. Then they headed to Georgia. Her mom and brother are in a shelter but I don't have any other details about them. She's only able to send text msgs right now but at least we know she's ok. No word yet on whether she still has a house.

Hi all, I am at my Baton Rouge office and wanted to confirm that Bengalbelle and I are both fine. We were able to speak on cell phones after the storm. I am in our Baton Rouge office right now trying to get some things caught up, but wanted to check in for a minute. I do a bit North of New Orleans in Norco and haven't been able to return to my office yet.

Hello! This is Loriann's friend, Tracy in San Angelo. I got a call from Loriann just now this morning! It was so good to hear her voice!!

Okay - her house is fine and dry - she got to see it yesterday. Her house and neighborhood made it through with very minor damage - praise the Lord! Her van is flooded, but their other car in their garage is fine. They are still at Keelser hospital sheltering. Her husband Rick is coming in Sunday and landing at Mobile, AL. They still have no power, so things are "hot and smell bad". They have enough food and water, thanks to the base. They are all fine - just devastated by the destruction of their area. I told her how many of you have been posting here and she broke down in tears and said chokingly, "Thank You." She said she will post again as soon as she can and that she loves all of you.

Hi there. I have finally found all of my missing people and started to wonder about old Dissers from my days here (I "used to be" DocRafiki). I was wondering about DopeyRN, knew she was from Jefferson Parish. Glad to see all are ok! I'm surprised we don't have more south LA/MS Disers -- somehow I thought there were more.

If anyone remembers my sister JolieKae, she stayed through the storm about an hour's drive north of the beach in MS. They got no tree damage, just lost part of her trailer's roof and having minor leakage. However, they are expected to be without electricity for 1-2 months and are toughing it out. At least they do have a generator and have been able to get water and ice a few times, so they just say they're "camping." :sunny:

We do have family in Biloxi who fled their flooding home and lost it all. I also have a friend in Slidell who lost everything. Remember that something like this really could happen to any of us.

And if any of you know a single woman or couple with pets who need shelter in a small modest home and want to live in Orlando, let me know. I have put the offer out on a few sites and have gotten no response.

Hi guys! We got power late yesterday. Our phones have been working some and not at other times. I checked in earlier on another thread, I just found this one. Anyway, we faired well. Only minimum damage to dh shop. Our parish was hit pretty hard with wind damage. Lots of trees down. The whole parish was without power. Entergy and surrounding power co. have been working really hard. They have about 55% back up. We have family that lost there homes.

We also decided we will not ride out another one of these. At least not anything over a cat.2. It's just not worth it. This has really made me appreciate those little things (hot water, air).

Thanks for praying for us and caring.

I'm from Denham Springs, relatively minor inconviences as far as I'm concerned. A few days without power was about all that affected our home. The kids and I have spent some time at the shelter at the church around the corner and oldest DS at LSU helping out there.
Kids back to school today and I braved the traffic to go back to work today.

I was looking on the funniest comments thread on the theme parks board, and I sent her a PM. Got a response today - she's fine. This is part of her response to my PM:

Thank you for writing and your concern. We are OK, thanks God. I am in AR, and DH is checking out our home and his parents right now. We evacuated on the morning of Sat., Aug 27. We didn't think it would get this bad. Fortunately, we live about 10 miles west and on the west bank of the river from the flooding. So our home only had a few shingles off the roof, and no looters got in!

We can take her off the list now I think. :) I'll PM her that this thread is here.

Hey Lisa loves Pooh,

Thank you for thinking of us. Don't send the postcard. The house is no longer there. We had to count slabs just to find it. It looks like it has been bombed. We feel lucky to have all family members accounted for. Please tell my fellow disers that we are okay and we miss them and we thank all for the support and donations.

Please pray for her!

I don't have all the details, but I think his home in NO was destroyed and he has relocated to WDW. If I'm not mistaken, he got his family into one of the DVC resorts, but doesn't have ready access to a computer to check in.

Thanks Lisa Loves Pooh... I didn't notice this thread till last night and I was having troubles trying to respond...

I'm here and ok... we lost power that monday the storm hit at 5:30am... we didn't get power back for 2 weeks, my mom 3 weeks. My city is just wind and tree damage. A few of my apartments lost their roofs... from the sky I bet my town looks like a kmart shoppers special with all the blue roofs. I did go on the coast and it made me cry, I can't even watch the news about rita because NO only has 1.3 million people while houston has 4 or 5 million... I know they are all getting out but what will they come home too.

Well, I am safe, back to working (yucky) which means I need to go now or I'll be late.

Take Care all and thanks so much for the love :grouphug:
