I'm really not trying to flame anyone. I'm just really curious... why do you bring your own toilet seat covers??

I am happy to use the ones Disney provides in almost every bathroom. I just bring them in case we go to a non disney bathroom like the airport, gas station, grocery run or whatever. Since we mostly fly and most airports have them I have rarely had to use them but I always keep them handy just in case. I've never had it happen before but the stall we're in may be out of them too.

They travel so easy-why not? :goodvibes

I also pack a first aid kit and baby wipes for cleaning faces and hands

First aid kit!! A small one is a must!! Had one of my younger children fall while leaving Fantasmic one night. He was bleeding badly on his knee. We asked a CM for help but they were so swamped with guests leaving that it was taking forever. I just whipped out my little first aid kit and fixed it right then and there. I sure felt good about that one!! ;)

 Here's our list:

1. Walkie Talkies (they've become invaluable when one of us is following keeping tabs on one child and the othe one is keeping tabs on the other!
Sometimes we found ourselves separated just a few yards and not able to see the other!
2. Velcro wristbands for the kids with our cell phone numbers and hotel name and number listed (in case they get lost.) Of course, any type of similar I.D. will do.
3. Gum...this is a new one for us...our 5 and 7 year olds use the prhase "I'm hungry" probably every 20 minutes and I've found that a pack of sugarless gum keeps them satisfied between meals for much longer periods.
4. Hand sanitizer and hand wipes.
5. The new Extra Large ziplock bags....they're great for dirty clothes hampers!
6. Zip-off cargo pants. I found these to be fantastic on those days in the parks which start off chilly and end up hot. They're lightweight and become shorts in a matter of minutes!
7. Fannypacks for each of the kids. Lets them carry their own snacks and treasures instead of burdening you down (like you don't already have enough in your own backpack ;)
8. Ponchos
9. Sunglasses for everyone! Seems I always forget to bring them for the kids...needless to say, they each own about 100 pairs because we always end up buying a new pair!
10. Anything they have at the dollar store that you'd othewise pay big bucks for. onsite

power strip!
Between the camcorder battery, rechargables for the digital camera, cell phone charger etc. I don't want to be hunting for extra outlets in the room.

Oh yeah, clorox wipes- I still clean the resprt bathroom myself before we use it- call me paranoid!

When we were there in Jan., all they had was the blue packets not pink. I don't use either in my tea, but a friend uses pink. So that was something that that was asked at each place we ate. So if you DH needs it, take some with you from home. Then you won't have to worry about it.

One of those collapable laundry hampers ($5 at WallyWorld). They are invaluable for keeping dirty clothes off the floor, and then you can use it to cart the clothes to the laundry room if you are CRAZY (or OCD, like me) enough to do it on vacation.

Okay what's a moleskin and what's it for? Also, Bodyglide- where do you get that?

Moleskin..is something you can put on a "hot spot" where a blister is/could be forming...

And Bodyglide...can be found at various sports stores. I did a search on the bodyglide web site for local stores in my area and found it a bike shop...you can also order it online at some online drug stores ...I found it at REI...at the store..but also saw you can order it from REI.com

So many great ideas. I love this hamper one. We always bring a laundry bag but the hamper idea is even better.

Love the night light idea and power strip too. Lots of great ideas. Keep em coming.

I take a little flashlight to find way to bathroom at night or if, heaven forbid, something happens to the electricity (aka Katrina), we can see. Target had a tiny round one and hangs from a keychain. Check the camping section.

Band-aid makes "blister band-aids" that are little pricey but are padded more so you can put them on a sore spot.

Cheap paperback book to read on plane/car and then leave/toss.

Charger for AA batteries for digital camera

A visor that slips on to my glasses when I don't want "hat hair": I think it was from a gift shop in Sanibel.

Is it December yet and time for our trip ??????? :Pinkbounc

I get that 9 of 10 bathrooms have toilet seat covers, but there are places that don't... The 1 of 10 in the World, the airport, any restaurants, shops any all other places outside of World as well. They are easy to carry and very inexpensive. For my little guys' butt, its better safe than sorry... :) :)

Just got back from labor day weekend at Disney. We didn't end up using the candle because every time we thought about it we looked up at the ceiling with the FIVE sprinklers and the smoke detector and thought, huh, wouldn't THAT be entertaining!

It was hot and it rained every afternoon, so those ponchos came in really handy!

Fantasmic on sunday night was a disaster. We had the fantasmic dinner seating, showed up 30 minutes early, and the entire place was a boiling mass of people. There wasn't even standing room only left, and our 'reserved' section was literally overrun. Bummer! This was our 4th or 5th time doing fantasmic with the dinner and we'd NEVER seen anything like that. It was CRAZY. MGM on sunday was just nuts. All the other days were great, MK on friday was empty, etc. Wait, this just turned into a trip report...

So, maybe we won't bring candles next time. Love those dollar store ponchos, though!

For my little guys' butt, its better safe than sorry...

I don't get the whole toilet seat cover thing. It's your legs (and "rear" muscle)that take up most of the seat. Unless you've got a cut or a sore, the germs are not getting in to your body. FYI - urine is sterile (no germs). If you see anything else on the seat, pick another stall.

Your little guy will get more germs from his fingers touching his eyes, nose and mouth than from his butt.

You are right, but I have to add my 2 cents anyway. I don't care one wit if someone wants to use a toilet seat cover or toilet paper to line the seat or towels or anything else. . .but do those who use them have to leave them on the seat for the next person or the cleaning folks to deal with?!!! I have never seen so many 'covers' left on toilets in my life than I saw last week at WDW! It became a running joke in my party of 10 :rotfl:
I am certainly not suggesting any of you do this, so don't flame me! ;)

Can't tell you how many times those have actually come in handy in a park.
I've lost a couple buttons due to restraints, so I have to run to the nearest restroom and sew on a button. :) Or if a hem gets ripped, you can fix it immediately without having to leave the park.

I forgot to add...Shout wipes. Be aware they can leave a small residue/circle where the food stain was. This is often better than wandering around with ketchup on your shirt! Find in the laundery detergent aisle in a box then toss in your day bag just a few in individual packets.

I also like the mini kleenex packets...so handy for everything and the tissues stay clean. They usually come in packs of 10 but sometimes you can find individual packs near the cash register at the drug store.

And I always have my emery board. Not a problem like a pointy metal nail file might be thru airport security.

Cheers,
MHF

Also I once read a study that concluded there were more harmful germs on your Keyboard/Desk :badpc: than on a Toilet seat. Thus I have no use for toilet seat covers :rotfl:

I also like the mini kleenex packets...so handy for everything and the tissues stay clean. They usually come in packs of 10 but sometimes you can find individual packs near the cash register at the drug store.

And I always have my emery board. Not a problem like a pointy metal nail file might be thru airport security.

Cheers,
MHF
Oh yes. I forgot to put the Kleenex on the list. I always have to have those.
I also carry a plastic covered nail clipper that has a tiny file attached. And it always gets thru airport security. :)

At least their my germs!

We're talking about feces, urine, hair (not the kind on your head) and more on toilet seats! Seen or unseen it's not going on my child if I can help it! Even if someone gets crap on the seat and wipes it off I can't see it but I would be able to smell it if it rubbed on my DD's legs or bottom. YUCK!!!

I'd rather have my DD catch a cold frrom the germs on my keyboard than have her get someone's crap (literally) on her hands and have it potentially go into her mouth, hair etc.

I still don't understan why people keep bringing this up.

Why do you give a "crap"?

I prefer to line the toilet seat with toilet paper (double strips of course) but I have no objection to other's using toilet seat covers if they want. :)
What I can't stand are the "squatters" who make a mess all over the toilet and floor. :sad2:

Love your Charlie stuff!

I can't stans squaters either. Please use a toliet seat cover instead people.

Maybe if everyone used Toliet seat covers (TSC) we wouldn't need to use TSC's!? :wave2:

Great thread. I'm going to print it out before I pack. I'll be there in 3 weeks, leaving in 18 days!!!!

And I agree with the TSC folks.......they're cheap, easy to pack & carry & for the 1 out of 10 times I need them, I have them.

1. DH :teeth:
2. Granola bars for breakfast
3. Binder with trip info
4. Shout wipes
5. Sunscreen for before parks :sunny:
6. Small screen stick to carry and reapply
7. Extra camera battery
8. Lots of film
9. Change for tolls (skipped on one once :guilty: )
10. Cell phone (avoiding the Disney charge)

And, a week before I leave, I spray bags and shoes with water repellent just in case of Kali or unexpected spills. :umbrella:

being from UK, lots!

1) DH - he would never forgive me if i went without him :goodvibes
2) sunnies - suncreen in towel for esp for babies and people like me who go "crisp" very quickly (factor 50+)
3) Ice wipes - wet wipe tissues that leave you feeling chilled, even better if you leave them in the fridge over night, good to stop overheating
4)mini fan
5) Travellers cheques
6) pins
7) aloe vera gel - great for heat rash, sore spots, sun burn
8) Comfy shoes
9) a cardy - the restaurants are always too cold in the evenings ;)
10) Kris n stitch - our teddy bears! :rotfl2:

We don't have TSC in any of our rest rooms so to use or not doesn't become an issue. What is appearing more often are little spray containers that you squirt onto a piece of toilet roll and use that to wipe the seat before us.
Supposed to be more enviromentally friendly as it uses less paper

I'm pretty sure the squatters must smell like pee-if you're hitting the seat and the floor, you're hitting your shorts, socks, undies and shoes, too!

gross, gross, gross.

Your genitals are not coming in contact with the seat, just your skin!

Man, if the tag fairy reads this I'm dead meat.

I get the heebbee jeebees thinking about the hotel beds. I was wondering can I bring a can of lysol on the plane? Or would something like that be a safety concern? I really want to sanitize the bed before I sleep in it. Also, if I can get a small can of it, I would prefer to carry that with me, and disinfect the rides, :rotfl: and sinks!

I want to bring my own pillows too, but, I don't know if they are counted as carry-on :confused3 :confused3

Great thread! Just what I was looking for. One question:

10. Anything they have at the dollar store that you'd othewise pay big bucks for. onsite

This is our first trip, so I'd love to hear specifically what I should be looking for at the dollar store.

These sound interesting! Does anyone know if we have anything similar in the US? My son has alot of problems with overheating. We tried those wet neckbands, but they didn't work well for him. Whenever we go outside I bring a wet washcloth to wipe him down.
Great tips everyone!

I just remembered this idea while at the grocery store this weekend - Disney fruit snacks - Princesses, Toy Story, Pooh, and Lion King. I don't have any kids, but I still carry a couple packages with me. They are relatively okay for you (better than some of the snacks in the parks), they are easy to carry, and you still get the Disney experience with each bite. :sunny:

My local supermarket had Mickey Mouse gummies! And they are really tasty. They also had Pooh & Nemo gummies as well. Fun snack to take along.

Wouldn't the effects of thelysol fumes and chemicals in your bed be just as potentially damaging as any "natural" germs that might linger after laundry and mousekeeping were through???? :confused3

packing cubes - a way of organising your packing supposedly

takes up more room in your suitcases and more weight (very important when flying internationally) and makes your wallet lighter, lots lighter

Someone from the UK noted sunscreen in a "wet one" style. I purchased some of these about 8 years ago for my husband to use on the golfcourse. (He loved them and they were cool to wipe down with, so he would apply more often.) I can't locate them now, can anyone help me locate these now?

I always carry these in my purse. They are awesome and can save you loads of money. If you forget to put sun screen on you can just whip one of these out and you don't have to spend $10 on a bottle of sunscreen in the park.

Sunnies are made by pampers and sold over here (UK) in Boots and mothercare

about £6-7 a pack of 30 wipes (with a plastic container for storage) SPF 30 with UVA/UVB protection,Water resistant

a refill pack £5-£6

Pampers Sunnies wipes are wipes impregnated with Sun Lotion. They are SPF 30. This is not the highest, but nor the lowest.

The lotion appears white on the skin, fading after a while but this is very handy for seeing where you have applied already.

The wipes contain Panthenol Vitamin Moisturiser which helps the skin to recover from drying out and soothes dry skin. This is handy if you are spending a few days in the sun but it alsoi means they are suitable for children with sensitive skin.

The wipes are water resistant, so you do not need to constantly reapply, as they go in and out the water. But as with all lotions they will eventually wear off and need reapplying after showers etc.

I have found I can cover myself well with one sheet wellthey are flannel sized
so i would think you could do two kids with one.
Do need to seal the packet well to avoid the top one drying out before use

If you have no luck in locating them let me know and I will see if I can get them for you if you would like me to.
