Hampton Inn and other Small Hotels outside Universal Gate

We are thinking of going to Universal Studios and IOA for two days in December then heading over to WDW. I'd rather not spend a ton of money at the on-site hotels as we will be in the parks most of the day. I saw that Hampton Inn has queen beds and is close to US and IOA (free shuttle is provided). Has anybody stayed here and what were your comments on the place? Does anybody recommend another small hotel near the gate to go to (i.e. Double Tree, Sleep Inn, etc.)

I can't think of the name for the life of me right now, but there was a hotel, with a circle thing down the street (LOL sorry for the description so .. blank) for 45.00 a night and was pretty nice, I believe rack rate was 59.00 though - mind you, we walked in and asked, and was told 45.00 a night with one of those coupon books. I will see if I can figure out the name and reply here :)
