I am ready to take the DIS challenge. First, let me introduce myself. I will be 48 in a few weeks, stand 5'4", weigh 150 lbs. and am a Lifetime WW member. My DH and I will be taking our first DCL cruise in January and it is my desire to lose 20 lbs. and be toned by that time. Weight has ALWAYS been an issue for me and have weighed anywhere from 121 to 168 lbs. I usually need an incentive in order to lose weight and exercise. Last year it was my DS's wedding. I got down to 129 lbs. and was the most toned I had ever been. Then for some reason, I let myself go. Why oh why did I do that??? I worked so hard. Now, it is a struggle even to lose 1 lb.!!! I very much want to be at 130 lbs. for the cruise...we are talking swimsuit here.

I am now back to WW and have hit the exercising again. I truly believe that between the determination, WW, drinking TONS of water and my exercising, I WILL DO IT!!! The DISH Wish board just may be the missing piece of this weight loss puzzle.

I had a great day today. Ate well and even saved points for my bloody mary's. I walked/jogged at the track 2 miles and came home and did 30 minutes of strengthening and toning. Hubby and I rode our bikes around town.

I am thinking that since I handed over my scales to DH to hide, that this may break this HUGE PLATEAU that I have had for a long time. At least mentally I feel better cuz I am not walking around pissed off at the world. I believe I will not ask for the scales for another week. Time will tell.

Chris, thanks so much for the welcome! The DIS boards are a one-stop shop for sure!

DH and I are going on the January 21, 2006 eastern cruise. I can hardly wait! I just want to look good and feel good. Only problem this time is I am finding extremely difficult to even lose one pound. It has never been this bad. Wish me luck!

I think the best thing I have done in a while is to hand over the scales to DH. Its amazing what a difference in my attitude it has made. I am not walking around in a foul mood because of what the scales said that morning. Now I have a great attitude and that leads to being a good girl during the course of the day. I feel a difference in my jeans, so that must mean that the exercise is paying off. It also seems easier not to grab this that and the other at work also. I sit at my computer and work away. If my mouth wants to be busy, I grab the plethora of gum I have in my desk. So its noon, I am eating my yummy salad totally satisfied for the time being. My goal is to make it the rest of the work day being good. I will head to the track when I get home. I actually am looking forward to it. Pat myself on the back.

HOORAY FOR IOWA!! :cool1: Finally, I know someone in the same state as me!! We have only been here a month, but we love it already. It's a lot different than SC, but we love it anyway!! The weather is awesome and we can't wait for SNOW!! :cold:

I am doing WW also, but not attending the meetings. I track all of my points by using my points calculater and the books that I have. There is also a website that gives you points values for TONS of restaurants. If you haven't visited Dottie's site, let me know and I'll give you the link. I wish you lots and lots of success!!

Hi Laurie, welcome to WISH! I have found that reading other people's journals are so helpful and keep me motivated to stay on track even when I want to eat every scrap of food in the pantry (then go to Baskin Robbins on top of that!!)

Sounds like you are off to a good start with the WW and exercising. I wish I could get rid of my scale, but I am taking baby steps and trying to eventually wean myself off it...

We are also going on a Disney cruise next year! We are going on the Western. I actually wanted to go on the Eastern, but I was limited to my kids' Spring Break schedule.

With all the awesome support here, you will meet your goal and look great on your cruise!

Thank you EVERYONE for your welcomes...I truly appreciate it! I am feeling pretty darned good today. I still have not stepped on the scales, but I think I will Saturday morning. I will need that incentive to get me through a day at the Iowa State Fair. I have eaten pretty well and even had just one bloody mary last night. I bought a belt thingy to put my CD player in while jogging/walking and I need little things like that to keep me inspired. My jeans are fitting a little looser so that is a good sign. I just don't want to be disappointed again though on the scale. It has never been this hard to lose and I am somewhat panicked. Aging sucks.

breakfast: Special K (vanilla and almonds) and skim milk
snack: a YUMMY Missouri peach
lunch: lettuce, fresh spinach, carrots and yes, Fiberone cereal sprinkled on top with FF dressing

and....

96 oz. water!!!! where is that bathroom!

I am feeling really well. I will say it again...ever since I handed my scales over toDH, my whole attitude has changed for the better. I went to the track and wogged 1.5 miles and then came home and did my toning stuff. I think I am going to do okay and ate well today with no cheats. Pat myself on the back.

:flower: I had thought about going to the fair on Saturday, also, but I think I've decided to stick around here. There is so much that I haven't seen yet in Creston! Never would have thought about putting FiberOne on a salad...that's a new one!! Have a great time on Saturday!! :flower:

I am doing great today and I feel great. I still have no clue what I weigh, but I am starting to think...do I really need to know that to feel good??? Maybe not? :confused3

So far:

B - Special K w/ berries...yummy! 1% milk
S - cantaloupe
L - lettuce, spinach, carrot and Fiberone cereal on top w/ FF dressing

and TONS of water. That has become a sport...see how much water I can consume w/o being ridiculous.

ARGH!!!!! I couldn't stand it any longer and I just KNEW I lost some weight, so I asked my DH for my scales. I WAS UP ONE POUND!!! How can this happen! I have been so good and thought I was doing everything right. WRONG! I cannot lose weight. It used to be so easy. Ever since I have was placed on Lexapro, it is a real struggle and unfortunately, that is a side-effect of Lexapro...weight gain. Right now, I would rather be "sane" and take the lexapro. I guess my next step will be to give up my bloody mary's all together.

I knew it was too early to weigh and t has been a little less than a week, but my body was telling me that it has changed and I was looking forward to a weight loss. It wasn't to be and I now weigh 151...up 1 lb. I want to cry. I guess I will drink some more water instead.

karynnix
08-18-2005, 08:41 AM
I just want to cry with you!! I know how you feel. I went to WW a while back, and I would get so discouraged when others would tell how much weight they had lost that week and I had gained. You said that you can tell a difference in how you feel and how your clothes fit, so you must be doing SOMETHING!!! We all need to get rid of our scales. Don't get down, Laurie...stick with us! We are all in this together. :grouphug:

need_a_Disney_fix
08-18-2005, 08:49 AM
Thanks so much, Karyn. Its so comforting knowing that you are not the only one. Why is it that some people can lose so easily? I have been battling my weight ever since I was 5. I'm sick of it. Good grief, I am 48 and the weight loss gets only tougher. Thank the Lord for this board. Its friends like this that will get each of us through.

I know...you can see the picture of my family. That is my mom and dad on the end, my brother (the dark one!) in the middle and my sis on the other end. I always thought that I would be the "exception", but it takes work!! I started having trouble after the kids were born (2 c-sections didn't help at all!!) and just went up from there. I began my weight loss journey at 170 pounds. You just have to stick it out. I have wanted to give up so many times and just accept the fact that I would be stout (as one lady called me at the job I used to work at and didn't know that I heard her). That was the day that I decided to do something about it and joined WW. I have started and stopped WW 3 times. This board has given me the motivation and friendship that I so desperately needed. Hang in there.

Cruise04
08-18-2005, 09:08 AM
I'm sorry - I wish I could come through the screen and give you a HUGE hug but instead here's a cyber one :grouphug: :grouphug:

My eyes were amazed at what you wrote. I feel so bad for you. But I think you are right, the salt in the bloody mary's might be the culprit (some of it). Try to drink more water if you want to have one - maybe at least 12 ounces of water for every bloody mary you have. See if that helps at all. I hate to see someone give up something all together because if you want it later your body has to learn how to accept it. Try that and see if that helps.

Now though, you've gotten on the scale, gotten it over with for the week. Give the scale back and wait until next week to weigh again. Also if you've been really working out you may have some muscle gain. I gained 2 pounds the first week and don't think I wasn't ready to quit right there and then!!!! By the second week it began to come off.

Good luck and keep working at it - I know it's hard. I've been heavy my whole life.

Keep on

Hang in there!! :grouphug:

I know EXACTLY what you are going through! I started WISH the end of June and I have lost 1, yes 1 pound! My scale has not budged in either direction in over a month. But I noticed that I was not as flabby as I used to be, and my clothes fit way better. I was obsessed with the scale, but I have finally gotten to the point where I don't let it bother me as much. It's just a number! How you feel is the most important part!

As for the bloody mary's, is there a low sodium mix you could use? Bloody mary's are SO high in sodium. It could be a water-retaining nightmare (I know it would be for me!!).

Don't give up, keep drinking tons of water and working out and hopefully the scale will cooperate soon!

eeyore25
08-18-2005, 01:36 PM
Here are some :grouphug:

I know what you are going through. I know it is hard, but don't get too discouraged. If you feel different, and your clothes fit differently, you are doing something right. Just remember that muscle weighs more than fat. So you may have gained muscle. I just had this talk with someone here at work that is helping me. Don't give up.......You can do this. Any time you need to vent, or cry or just need a hug, come here. Everyone here understands.

You will see the results that you want soon enough.

Have a great day

Thanks so much, my new DIS Wish friends, for all your support. You all know how much that means. I use the low sodium V-8 so actually my Bloody marys are healthy :teeth: . I am getting a great source of potassium and its a veggie. Call it medicinal.:rotfl:

You guys are great! Don't worry, I am just that more determined. DH and I will hit the track tonight and I will do my toning thing at home. Tomorrow's another day.

08-19-2005, 08:41 AM
I woke up this morning feeling like taking on the world. DH and I decided it will be 2 weeks before I can weigh again. He and I hit the track last night and went 1.5 miles of brisk walking and it was great. DH let off steam from being pissed off at someone at the office and I was taking long strides so I could feel my leg muscles being worked. I have found in the past that by doing that, my legs tone up nicely. I have a ways to go, but I can tell a difference. Then we came home and I hit our home "gym". It felt great!

Today, ate my Special K and ready to drink my water. Life is good.

BUT, we brought home my DD's weight bench and weights cuz she is not using them. DH and I will hit the high school track and set my our gym in the basement.

I just had THE best salad and it was huge! The entire salad was 3 points which included a BIG pile of lettuce, fresh spinach, a can of no salt added chicken breast, grape tomatoes and Ken's FF Raspberry pecan dressing. To die for!! That should hold me for awhile.

DH and I will be heading for the track after work and what a gorgeous Iowa day it is, too. We deserve this after the hot, dry summer we had.

My Dh won't give me my scales!!!!!! Thats probably okay and he said I can weigh myself in another week. I do feel a difference though, but I have thought that before and I weighed the same. I started an online fitness program where I have a fitness instructor available 24/7. She made up my routines according to the info I filled out. It doesn't get much more customized than that. I can do this with the equipment I have at home and don't have to rush to get to a gym and fight for a piece of equipment. It comes with a price, but you know what??? I am soooooo worth it!!!! My killer routine is today when I get home from work. Flat abs are coming my way!!!!

This is THE best weekend. DH and I splurged yesterday and bought a wonderful treadmill and we are soooo excited. Here is Iowa there is a period of time, namely winter, that can be a challenge to get out and walk. NO MORE!!!!! Also, my dear DH let me weigh in this morning. 2 LBS LOST AND GONE FOREVER!!!!!! I can feel a real change in my body and I am losing inches and now the blubber is starting to come off too. I did my killer workout yesterday and boy oh boy, Paige (fitness trainer) is a real animal. i am not too sore though considering the positions I was in with dumb dumbells.

Ummm, Karyn, you better start shopping! Although, some winters are milder than others and there of course is no way of predicting. DH and I work at the same office which is 36 miles one way. There have been times we simply stayed homs Oh darn! One thing is for sure, Karyn, you WILL see and live in snow. Have fun with it!!!

Ummm...okay, its like this. We brought our new treadmill home last night and this thing is a BRUTE!!! The treadmill weighs 250# itself and you add the weight of the packaging and we have ourself a real challenge to take it to the basement. To make a story short, we did succeed and we even put the thing together. I love it and I did my 35 minute assigned workout this morning (early). I am truly feeling a difference in my clothes and look forward to the weeks ahead. I have turned the corner!!!

I AM GOING TO DO THIS!!!! I feel so awesome and its because I am back on the fitness trail. I still ask myself why I let myself go this past year since I was down to fighting weight and toned for DS's wedding. I guess maybe beacuse all of our trips were taken and there were no events coming up. Well now with the January cruise, the thought of my bathing suit scared the crap out of me! With my healthy eating and our new fitness gym in our basement, I WILL be successful. My online personal trainer is so great and that system works slick. I still call it an investment in ME...and I AM SOOOO WORTH IT!

The treadmill is a great idea. Iowa winters - gotta love 'em, gotta hate 'em.

Karyn, there's nothing like walking in the first snow at dawn or dusk making the first footprints and catching snow on your tongue - good clean fun for all ages!!

I had a great revelation yesterday. It was my birthday and all year long I thought I was 47 and was telling everyone that I was turning 48. My mom asked me if I was sure about that. Sure enough...all year I was 46 and this was my 47th birthday. Can you believe that? It's like reconciling your checkbook and finding money in your favor!!!

I have been doing fabulous with my workouts and I can really really tell a difference. My DH allowed me to weigh in the other morning and I have now lost 3 lbs. The important thing tough is that I am feeling thinner and getting toned. Once I get going on a fitness regimen, it does not take my body long to respond. But, I sure can feel like a tub of lard in the meantime. My online fitness guru has been a godsend.
