Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we're a group of people who are planning to participate in the 2006 and/or 2007 Disney Half or Full marathons. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us!
Here's the Marathon FAQ, a great place to answer your marathon questions:

Looks like everyone's making great progress! Sounds like we're all moving up in the dogs categories. :pug: :dog: :dog2:
Tiff...wtg on your pace! And wtg for your mom registering!
Heather...congrats on your PR! What a pace! :cool1:
Lisa...congrats on starting your 'official' training! :dog2:
Sunny...wow...sounds like a nasty day! Great job getting through it!
Jodi...10 miles and a great pace! Two paws way up! :paw: :paw:
Cam...congrats on maintaining the intervals! Great pace! :cheer2:
Nancy...there's a Komen 5K at WDW in October, but that may be too late for you to make your decision. I'll have to track down the website that I was using to check for races in Orlando. It was a shoe store but I can't remember the name. congrats on moving to the new house! Do we get to see pictures?
Carrie...yay :cheer2: :cheer2: Will be great to see you guys on Friday! When do you arrive? Maybe you can make the Trail's End dinner.
Not much to report for me this week. I wimped out and stayed inside on the TM all week. :sunny: My pace with W3/R1 is hovering right around 16:00 on the TM. Starting Wk3 of the W/R the Half program tomorrow. I experimented with some extra running...did a quarter mile in 3 min.
I had a momentary glimmer of staying with the W/R program til end of Sept then switching to the R/W the half program, but not sure if I'm really up for that.
I haven't had any toenail issues yet, but my longest distance is 4.25 so we'll see. My toenails right now are green, but can also be purple or sparkly blue ;)
DH and DD12 did a 1 mile fun run yesterday in under 8 min, but both say they think the course was too short! They didn't use Garmin, so don't know. DD12 is starting competitive soccer tryouts this week. I'm going to have to work Sat long runs around her game schedule
I'm looking at 2 races right now...the 5K Bridge run on Sept 24 and at 10K at boca Grande the following week. Is it too much to do two races so close together?
Good training everyone!

Lisa....I can't find your marathon planning thread. I would be happy to make a Trails End ressie this week, but looking for a head count. What time does everyone want to eat Fri night?

I believe it should be early--around whenever they open for lunch. B/c we have our half-ers to think about who have to be up bright and early on Saturday a.m.
Evidently this worked very well for last time (only no PS's then!).

My friend brought my new mountain bike on Friday. Today I went for my first long ride. I did 12.5 miles in an hour. Definitely not big :dog2: stuff, but it sure felt good. My DH was just glad to finally see me get on a bike after spending lots of $$$ on jerseys, shorts, shoes, helmet, gloves, computer, pump, etc. I am giving major hints about a new road bike for Christmas.
Glad to see that everyone had a good weekend. Let's make it a great training week! :flower:

Hey guys,
Sorry I have been MIA the last couple weeks. I have been running though! Still doing my 4mile run twice during the week and a 6 mile on Sunday. I need to add one more 4 mile day into the mix and I really need to start pushing up the long run. Still on the treadmill and its getting boring! I think I'll set September as my goal to hit the open road though it will still be really hot.
I'm still going back and forth between MFM plan or Hal Higdon's plan so I need to make a decision very soon.

2 miles today---at a comfortable, but not easy pace.
Tomorrow is cross training, Thursday is 2 miles...then my "long" ;) ;) day on Saturday..a whopping 3 miles.
It seems we have extra weeks in our training this year--It's been one year since hurricane Charlie---and the start last time got off to an awkward one.
Nice to be part of the "training" WISH crew! Wahooo!!!!
Our team will be staying 3 nights this year--so we check in on Thursday night. Not sure if I will be adding a night or not. Have to check with hubby's schedule and see how it goes. I return that Tuesday from New Mexico.

Woo Hoo Woo Hoo Woo Hoo!!!!!
My mom just called (who is doing the 1/2 with me) and she is paying for our 4 nights at the Wilderness Lodge!!!!!  I can't believe it. She's awesome! :cheer2:
I had made the reservation yesterday, but was still trying to decide whether to keep it our not. POFQ would be $300 less. And since I'm a SAHM with a kid in private school it's hard to justify that extra $300. But I knew this would be the 1st & probably only time for a while we stay on site.
She even told me to upgrade from standard to a better view room!
Well this will give me the adrenaline to get my 2 miles in today for sure.

Heather! Wow! You're doing awesome!
Jodi! 10 miles at 11, You are wher I hope to be. Way to go!!
Mel - At least you got the workouts in, TM or not. I was bad last week. Skipped Mon and Thur. :( Oh, I won't be in until ~11 Friday night, so no Trails End. I'm just happy that I'll be ther for Sat morning.
Tiffj - Have you looked into renting DVC points at VWL? That could get you the savings you want.
I know I missed a bunch, I'll try to catch up later.
We did do our 7 Saturday. We were in my home town and it was VERY hilly. Still maintained a little under 11, though. I was happy and not too dead. DH informed me that we start the real training next week. Yikes! No run tonight, but we'll do it tomorrow. I think we're up to 50 minutes.

Just sticking my head back in. I have been reading, just not positng. I got sick and took a week off from running, I can just never seem to get myself out there when I am not feeling good. Lets hope I am not sick for the race itself - Lisa I don't know how you did it last year!
Liz and Lily, I have to tell you I LOVE your breakdown of the race. I read the story and started tearing up at the office, it was awesome. Just what I needed to get me out there running again. We can do this! I remember a few years ago the thought of running 13 miles scared me to death, How could I ever go that far. Now I am trying for my first full and all those horrible feelings are back 10 fold. I need to just take it one day at a time and one mile at a time.
Thanks to all you regulars for organizing all of the shirt/dinner ressies/ weekly threads. I may not be posting lately, but I am still getting a great deal of support and community from this group. I will try to come back more often, cuz it will only get better.

Hi WISH Team!
Cam, those laces seem interesting. Not sure how they would be with my feet though. I lace them slightly diffferently bc it hurts across the top of the high instep if the laces cross. If you try them let me know.
Nancy, good luck with the move. That will be quite a job for sure!
Lisa, thanks for posting up your schedule. I will look at yours to compare what I am getting into. I am following John Bingham MFM program. Just not sure if I will try training the R/W or the W/R...must make a commitment and time available will be the determinant. I would love to try the R/W as it will build in more "stroll" time as I desire to take the entire time to enjoy the view.
News flash! DS asked me to enroll him in the half instead of the full bc he has not been doing any running yet and feels he will be most successful in the half. He will begin training when he returns to college since he enrolled in a running class. So, what I did was enroll both of us in both so we could have choices. I am still waffling over being able to complete the full. Now I can wuss out if I need. (I guess I needed the security blanket.) DH said he feels better that I did this. I told him our "$ contribution" would be to both events. Sigh. So now I can do whatever I want!
:teeth: :pug: :earseek: :confused3
I haven't been devoting as much time to the Pilates as I started out doing so this year. I kicked up my running and let the cross training fall away. Welllll, I am back with Pilates this a.m. I did something with my back over the weekend and I feel the slight strain. I need to get my core strength back. I am also wondering how I will be able to fit in cross training if I kick up to a 4/day R/W program. The beginnings are upon us soon. I'm looking forward to this trek.

Oh, fabulous. Last night I had my first marathon related anxiety dream. I dreamed that I got halfway through the full before realizing that no one had given me a champion chip. Therefore, there was no record of me being on the course (and no way to prove I'd already completed the 1/2 the day before) so no way for me to prove I wasn't cheating. So I just dropped out and went back to the hotel. Weird. But then again, I'm one of those people who frequently dreams that I find out the day before the final that I'm enrolled in a course I've never attended. Why do I have a feeling it's going to be a long four months? :(
I've slowly been ramping up the training, getting ready for next week when I "officially" begin the program. I'm doing four days a week of run/walking now, not long distances, just 40-50 min at a time to get back into the swing. And I'm doing two days of cross training with one day of sitting on the sofa!
Happy training all!!

Be careful Lily, you may just become goofy and do both!
I didn't do a long run this week. I have been biking a ton since mother's day out is over for the summer and I can go ride while pulling the boy. I have also been swimming and doing speedwork (YUCK!!!!)
I went moutain biking and rock climbing this weekend. My husband was standing at the base of the cliff after we rappelled down looking at the map. When he took a step forward, i looked at where he had been standing. He was basically standing right over a timber rattle snake EEEEEEEKKKKKK. I calmly said, keep walking and he did. No snakebites thankfully. The snake must have just eaten because he didn't more much. It was very exciting. I figured that got my heart rate up enough to make up for one mile of running!
I just ran 3 miles pushing the boy (thought of you Lisa) I wish the treadmill was working. Who can say that???

Lily- Now you can go for the Goofy medal! ;)
The photos of my 5K are up on the web site. http://www.eventpictures.com/app/event/viewEvent?eventInstanceId=2958
My bib # is 71 if you want to check it out. That's DH next to me. He sometimes had to walk fast to keep up with my running (he runs 7 minute miles), but he was a great sport. I like the photo with a whole crowd of people behind us. Of course, the one with the little girl in the background makes me laugh. My DH said "We can't let that little girl beat us!" I told him that I was running my own race, and she could beat me. Well, when we got within 500 feet of the finish line, that little lady took off like a shot and finished far in front of us. My DH turned to me and said, "You're right, we couldn't have beaten her." :rotfl: So I guess my next goal should be to run fast enough to beat an 8 year old.

Shhhh! :ssst: I don't think so. ;)
Love the pics you are so lucky to have a DH that will run with you. Will he do it for all or was it just this one?
Disneefun, DREAMS! :rotfl2: Mine started early for last January too. I had the dream that as I lined up, my legs went to rubber, kinda like those little collapsable puppets and I would just slog along not getting anywhere. What a recurring nightmare!

Hey all! I am back! My computer crashed and I lost so much stuff :badpc: We had to get a new hard drive! Anyway...Bree has been keeping me up to date.
Later all! DDs are starting school Wednesday and we are going to meet their teachers.
OHH.......I bought me a "swimming bathing suit" and a swimming cap. My DH thinks I am crazy b/c I walk around the house with it on. :rotfl2: Anyway, We are going to join the YMCA so we can swim and I MAY have a friend who will let me have an OLD road bike. :teeth: :teeth: I am a HAPPY GIRL!

Christa - glad you are back! Sounds like there is a triathlon in your future!!!!!! You could not pay me to walk around in a swim cap. They give them to you at the tri's to make it clear which wave you are in. Sometime when i get really brave, i'll post a pic from mine with the cap on. it is lovely. I look a little like a match that has not yet been struck!
Hey Trainees:
Glad to see everyone's doing well. I'm still recooperating from my run on Sat., it definetely didn't feel as good as the 8 I ran the week before - not sure why. I felt like doody when I was done.
Carrie- If you're running 7 now, you can do 10. Those hills you're running take a lot out of you! I bet you if you could map out a sorta flat course for yourself you could run 10 no prob. I jumped from doing 6 & dying, then waited 3 weeks 'cause I was bummin', to 8 which felt great (cause you all told me sloooow doooown), to 10 which, well...ok, I shuffled the last 2 miles  , but I still didn't stop.
DisneeFun- Holy cow, you're having dreams already? :earseek: Stop! I know I'm going to start having those soon. My stomach keeps doing this :Pinkbounc every time I think about waking up that a.m. & going to the corrals w/ my mom. She's walking the 1/2.
Question to you all about cross-training. I've been riding my bike for a 1/2 hour in the early a.m.s on my C/T days, but I have a feeling I'm not "doing" it right because I'm enjoying myself too much. Do you guys go "crazy" hard w/ C/T, or is it more of a mellow thing? Sometimes when I go to the gym I use the elliptical-thinga-majiggy, but I don't make the resistance super hard or anything. Don't get me wrong, I work up a stinky sweat, but I always feel like I should save the thigh-screaming for my runs. Any thoughts?
Oh yeh, does anyone know where there's a list of all of us & who is competing in what race? Curious to know who I'll meet up with on the a.m. of the 1/2 in my "slowpoke" corral!!
Happy training!!

TXBelle-- Wow! all that bike gear. Glad to see you put it to good use! Congrats! And great pics, too!!! :cool1:
Tiffj-- That's great you're doing a Mother/Daughter thing! I hope one day my DD will do one with me. And she's picking up the bill, too? Wow, don't think DD would ever do that!
Kaf-- glad to see you back. Your racking up the miles!
Lily-- DS gets to take a running class! I'm jealous, he actually gets college credit for running!
Disneefun-- Oh that's a terrible dream! Now I'm going to have it, too!!!! I often have a variation of Lily's dream-- running but not getting anywhere. Freud where are you????
Mel-- As I read your post I started to think, "wow, I'd like to go rock climbing-- never been" but then I got to the snake part and changed my mind! Wow!
Jodi-- I go crazy hard with my cross-training. I was cross-training before I was marathon training and I just didn't reduce the intensity any. I do rowing, stairMaster, elliptical trainer, TaeBo and weight training. My favorite is TaeBo and weight training. (I love Billy Banks :lovestruc ) The others are simply to burn calories and build cardio endurance.
I did a TM run today. It was actually cold out, but I didn't plan on the temperature dropping 25 degrees today so I did my TM run. 7 miles, 5 at 6.5 mph/9:13 pace. It felt good. I made up my training plan over the weekend. I have one race before WDW in Oct (a half) and I'm not getting talked into any more. They mess up my long runs.
I haven't started having the weird dreams yet but I find I'm getting a little paranoid about getting injured. I wore new socks on my last run and felt a tiny twinge in my upper right foot/ankle area and started freaking out! Then, I kind of lost my footing on my stairs and did a quick weight shift and thought, "OMG, what if I fell???" I think its time for some relaxation tapes :rotfl:
Now I'm off to the gym to reduce my arms to jello. Oh I love doing that :p
Sunny

Sunny- When you figure out how to get rid of this dang arm jello, let me know. I'm off to the gym to try & do the same! Ugh. :rotfl2:

I like the photo with a whole crowd of people behind us:
Those are great picture, I like the one coming off the bridge too! By the way, you look Marvellouss!!
Sunny, work on those arms a bit for me too! That is one area that I really neglect.
Jodi, I really need advice on a cross training plan too. I really dislikes resistance training. I was wondering if water aerobics would be alright and then maybe a pilates class... any advice anyone?
Christa, glad your computer problems are behind you. I am new as of last week or so. Bree shared a picture of the two of you with Winnie the Pooh, so cool, you two looked like you really had a blast.
Lily, I like that insurance idea (registering for both). My DH is thinking about registering for the full with me. He has his own marathon scheduled for the middle of December. If he runs that he will just run along side of me, but if things don't work out with his own marathon training will wait and run Disney "for real".
Tiff, what a great mother you have! Have fun at WL.
I had a terrible run on Saturday, fought through 4 miles, I hope to do 6 tonight. Mental note to self: Stretch, stretch, stretch. Why is stretching so hard for me???
Mel, keeper of the list, could you add me to the list, doing the full.

Thanks Carrie :goodvibes I'm getting soooo excited!!

Hi there. I've been travelling for the past 2 wks and am proud of myself for sticking to my training schedule. I could have wimped out and put it off but I've hung copies of the half and full marathon courses on my fridge so that I see them first thing in the morning. It's hard for me to deny that I'm in need of training when I can see the happy course pictures facing me.
Mel- I was wondering if you could add that I'm doing the Goofy to the participant list? I'd appreciate it.
Tiff- I'm envious that you have such a cool mother to be running the race with you AND paying for a premium room. My mother doesn't understand my love of Disney or running.
Inspired by Jodi/Sunny and others complaning of jello arms. I've been trying to hit the gym 2x per week for the last month any idea when I might see some benefit? I can feel my muscles after I'm done and I notice that my back and shoulders don't feel so tired after a long run but will I ever LOOK any better?
Take care,
Kiena

Jodi- I will definately be in the slow poke corral with you! See you bright & early. Now that I have my ressie I am so very excited too.
Mel- please add me to the list to TiffJ Tiffany AL doing the 1/2 Thanks!
disnutt- yep I have a pretty cool mom. She understands the racing thing. She was a runner when I was a kid & always ran the Peachtree Road races in Atlanta. However, she does think my love(o.k. obsession) with Disney is a little over the top. I tell her compared to some people on these boards I'm minor league. BTW- congrats on doing the goofy ,WTG!

Jodi - If you are having fun cross training on a bike, that makes total sense, because biking is the BEST!!!!!!! It is fun, there is nothing you can do to avoid it!
Sunny - We climb at least two times a month, and that is the FIRST time I've seen a snake. My dad is always surveying the woods, and that is his first rattle snake! I think it was unusual. Phil and I have only seen a rattlesnake one other time and we were backpacking by a river. That time we heard it before we saw it. Needless to say, it was rattling, so we didn't get a good look at it! As for the rock climbing, it will reduce your arms to jello. The bad part is, you have to cut your fingernails so they don't get bent back. Alos, every picture that people get of you is of your rear because you are generally dangling above their heads!

Morning all - everyone looks busy. I did okay this weekend, ran for 1 hr 50, then came home, went to the bathroom, drank something sugary and set off for another half an hour - about 10 minutes in though it started hailing then it was freezing sheet rain, I was so cold and just trying to decide what to do when I heard 'beep, beep, beep' behind me and my boyfriend had come to rescue me!!! Very happy. I did about 11 miles in my two hours - not exactly superfast, but if I can keep that up for the race I'd finish about right.
I seem to have missed the snake post - not sure about a sport that brings you into contact with snakes - although Mel (chimera Mel) you'd better add that the list of lifestock we had going earlier this year - talking of which where's Lynne and Erin and mum gone?
That's my lot today - the book is finished (hooray) but all my clients have just realised that it's coming up to the point in the year when I take a month off (to go see all of them in England) and so I'm not exactly getting a rest. Off to vote in the various polls now and then it's time to work. Helen

Hi everyone,
I have a confession to make - it will be a week tomorrow since I have done any training  and tomorrow will be a big fat 0 also because my DS is turning 12 :earseek: (OT - how the heck do they grow up that fast????)
I really need to get my tail back on the road but the time off has helped my poor blistered cut feet heal slightly.
I have to get back on my training plan to have any hopes of registering yet alone competing the 1/2. I wil be back on the road come heck or high water Wednesday!!!!!!!

Sunny- When you figure out how to get rid of this dang arm jello, let me know. I'm off to the gym to try & do the same! Ugh. :rotfl2:
Actually, Jodi, what I meant was I was going to lift weights until my arms had the strength of jello. At the risk of sounding immodest I will say I have melted every last ounce of jello off of my arms (and believe me I had a few gallons worth :rotfl2: ). I do serious lifting-- to the point of complete muscle fatigue. Its really uncomfortable when you first start lifting, but then it becomes addiction just like running :teeth: By the time I hit the shower I can hardly use my arms, but within an hour they feel great and I never have lingering soreness anymore. Maybe I'll post a picture of those cut babies some day :p (I won't be posting any picture of my legs on the other hand). Anyone know how to lose the saddle bags? I keep thinking they might fall off one of these days on a long run :rotfl:
Mel: As for snakes. I was once fishing at a lake in Colorado with my cuisin and she mentioned something about a snake. I mis-understood her and jumped and screamed and caused my grandfathers tackle box to fall in the lake. A poor man came running from clear across the lake to inform me not to worry that the snakes in that area were'nt poisoness. We didn't have the heart to tell him there wasn't even a snake to speak of. So just reading your stories makes my skin crawl!!!! I wish I had more adventure in my fitness quest though. Your adventures sound so exciting. Any rock climbing I'm likely to do will be on a wall...
Helen, there was a list of livestock? Well I have one. Once when I hit the bikepath at 5AM, being the first human to cross, I came across a deer standing right in the middle of the path. I kept running toward her expecting her to bolt and she didn't. I finally slowed to a walk and then stopped about 60 feet from her, she finally darted off. We ran parallel for a brief moment, but it appears she had been working on her speed work more than I, for she was gone in seconds!

Pilates this a.m. Haven't done them in about a week..so it felt good to do it again.
Everyone looks like they are doing great.
Got on the scale this morning--my "squishy" diet worked. I am about 5-7 pounds more squishy. I don't know why I don't care--but I don't.
I will focus on healthy eating now that the last bit of oreos is out of the house. All that's left is ice cream stuff. Got Godiva chocolate ice cream for B1G1 free at Albertson's for that once a month witch attack. It should do just the trick. But other than that, I'm banning cookies from the house. They are my weakness. I cannot resist. What are those chips that say you can't eat just one. Well that, for me, applies to cookies!!!

Holy Cow Sunny!! You lost 80 lbs? That is unreal, good for you!! Please, tell me how to lose my arm JELLO! It's not really jello, just no definition. I've been lifting for a while, maybe I'm not concentrating on arms enough, as the rest of my body has sorta responded.
Kiena - Are you running any road races in CT anytime soon? I'm running a 5k in Windsor this Sunday. It'd be nice to meet up for a race sometime b-4 Jan.
Minnie- don't worry, you'll get back on the program. Sometimes a week off isn't a bad thing anyway, gives your body time to recoop. Having said that...REGISTER today!

It was back to the gym today for 2.5 miles on the TM. I was able to continue the run3/walk2 program. Woo hoo! If I run more than I walk, does that officially make me a runner now? :paw:

On matters of the list...There's a handful that are 2007 participants, but we are well over 100 people that have signed in and expressed interest in being there in 2006. It would be great to hear from those that we haven't heard from in awhile!
It's been a great journey so far, getting to know everyone and cheering on all the victories we've had in our individual races. I'm getting really excited for the time when we get to meet and do this together! It's starting to seem more real...especially since we're able to do some planning stuff now!
I haven't taken anyone off the list, but I can do so if people let me know they'd like to be removed. Please feel free to PM me if you don't want to post to the thread!
Heather...great race photos! Congrats!
Sunny...congrats on your weight loss! :worship: We'll add Bambi to our livestock collection...so far we have my zebra, Helen's elephant (or was it a camel), Lynne's goat, and Mel's rattler. Anyone else? :teeth:
Sorry to be short today!
If anyone's interested, here's DH and DD12 at their 1 mile fun run last weekend. I didn't compete...stayed at home with the wild todd!

Sunny - You are DA BOMB for loosing that weight!   Was it on WW? I do that too, but my last 15 is killing me! It won't come off. It may be the amount of food I have been eating lately! But I run 30+ miles a week and I am HUNGRY! :mickeybar

he is added! I usually keep family, friends or teams in the 'comments' column of the list and just have people who've actually posted as 'official' members.

Sunny- Congrats on the weight loss! How long did it take you to get your arms cut? I'm working on the weights. I sure hope I get hooked on it soon. It really is an accomplishment just dragging my jello arms/legs through the gym door. I procrastinated yesterday and didn't make it until 8:30 pm but I finally got in there.
Chimera-thanks for making me Goofy!

Oh you guys are so sweet! Thank you for all the complements. Well, you asked for them...
Here's a "before" picture to get some perspect :)
This was April 2004
http://livinglively.com/images/april04.jpg
I have to add, I have always struggled with my weight but usually managed to keep it somewhat stable with tons of exericse (surprize, surprize). Then motherhood took a toll on me. My second pregnancy (2000) I developed preg. induced hypertension and was on bed rest for 8 week. That was hard. Then in 2003 I got divorced and my DD (then 13) went through some really hard times and I gained somewhere around 65 pounds that year.
I lost the weight with WW. I started Sept. 13, 2004
OK, here are the arms (most of me managed to get in the pictures, too).
http://livinglively.com/images/arms2.jpg
http://livinglively.com/images/arms3.jpg
http://livinglively.com/images/arms4.jpg
I've been lifting weights for about 4 years (long before the weight loss). I started getting really serious about it when the weight started to come off and I could see my muscles. Yippee :cool1:
I have to say, if you want to see real results you have to get real serious. Never lift more than you can while maintaining good form. But you really gotta feel it! I see a lot of women at the gym just kind of going through the motions. It really helps to concentrate on the muscle being worked and how you want them to respond.
Thanks so much for being interested
Oh, I did an 8 miler today on the bike path. The weather was beautiful. I averaged a 9:29 pace. What a relief after last weekend's snail run.

I hear ya! I figure my long runs earn me about 22 activity points. However, they also earn me an increase in appetite of about 40 points :confused3 The math doesn't work out :rotfl: Actually, I almost always eat way more than WW allows, I just don't tell!
I set my WW goal high so I could get to Lifetime. I still plan on losing a good 15 pounds. I've heard you gain 5 secs on your speed for every pound of fat you lose! That's incentive!!!!

We did 50 minutes tonight. It was like a sauna out there. Dh had a headache and was even slower than me! Poor guy. I finally didn't have to race to stay with him,but he felt so bad that his stride was awful. The clomping on the pavement made me feel like I had a stampede behind me. Can you tell I'm never satisfied? ;) I must admit I liked it better when I couldn't keep up. I felt so bad about him and worried the whole time. Headaches are fairly normal for him though. :guilty:

Good morning everyone!! I have to start getting on here more than once a week! I had a pretty good walk last night, I did 3.6 miles in 50 minutes and I was doing 13:55 miles. I start the first 6 weeks of the MFM walk/run program on Monday and then the run/walk on Oct. 3. I have my first 5K this weekend, I know it's only 3.1 miles and I shouldn't be nervous, but I kind of am.
Sunny--WOW!!! :earseek: I can't believe your arms, they look great!! No wonder you feel like jelly when you're finished lifting.
Mel(Chimera)--Football season can officially start! The big :dog: is back!! I think the Steelers are going to have a pretty good season!!
Oh, I have a question for all of you seasoned veterans out there. Does anyone know some exercises I can do to strengthen my back muscles? I have a pretty weak back to begin with (thanks, Mom) and I have a herniated disk that slips out of place sometimes. I've noticed that on my longer walks (and I assume it's only going to get worse when I start running), especially ones that I keep up a faster pace, I get the worse back pain in my lower back, right above my hip bones. My back is so sore today that I can't even stand up straight and I'm walking "crooked"--one hip is higher than the other. It feels like the herniated disk, but I know that's not what it is because nothing is bulging (it's gross, you can actually see the disk bulging out of my back if you know what to look for). Also, I have some ab exercises that I got from Runners World, do you think that will help strengthen my back muscles or cause more damage?? I'm a mess!!
Krista princess:
Krista - Abs, abs, abs. My husband has an awful back. He used to throw it out & I'd have to drag him around on a throw rug for a week. He is more physically fit than I ever could be. Lifts weights, runs, has an awesome physique, former marine (he's 40 now), you get the picture, but his back...
Last time he "threw it out" he couldn't even walk. In the past he went to chiropractors where they gave him electric shock therapy or something like that for his back. They even told him that he had an extra vertabrae & needed back surgery. This time I took him to a Massage therapist/accupuncturist who travels to the olympics, great credentials, etc. Various family members had used this guy b4. My husband was very skeptical, but so desperate he was willing to try anything. After 1 hour, he had my husband standing upright & walking. My "macho" husband was in tears of relief, literally, when he realized he could stand up straight again just after 1 hour. (He hasn't had any probs since. When he feels his back wince, he concentrates on training his abs for a few days straight & that takes care of it).
Just had to give you the whole background, before I told you that this guy told my husband you must, must, must train your abs! Strengthen the opposing muscle of the one that's bothering you is the theory, I guess. B-4 he runs now, my DH does about 2 minutes of intense abs on one of those giant balls, then goes. I slow down & do about 5 minutes @ a moderate pace & it's helped my back as well.
So I guess that's a long winded yes! Do your abs.
Incidentally, if you have problems with your knees after running, which I do, he told me that during my warm up b4 I run, to walk/run backwards for 3-5 minutes. Alas, no more knee probs.
Hope this helps!

Stay away from traditional sit-ups, though. They are actually bad for your back! The stability ball is a great tool for abs. Doing the cobra position on the ball is also really good for strengthening your back. Good luck.
I did lower body weights and abs so far today. I won't get back to the gym afterwork because I'm taking DS to a free initial Jujitsu lesson. I hope it works out for him. He needs something to help himi learn how to control his body!!!! Anyone know martial arts? Have any suggestions on which discipline is best? DS has Sensory Integration Dysfunction and impulse control difficulty. I won't be surprized if he gets labelled ADD once he starts school :(
Yes, yes! The giant balls are the way to go.

Sunny and Jodi (and anyone else who would know)--this is what I have from Runners World. Look okay?
"Circuit abs" because it's a combination of abdominal exercises that rotate every 30 seconds. By rotating the exercises you ensure all ab muscles get strong. And the variation in the exercises allows one group of abdominal muscles to recover while another group is worked. Circuit-ab workouts can be done every day after you run. Here's how:
Set your watch to beep every 30 seconds, and begin the first ab exercise.
Do as many repetitions of the selected exercise as you can until the watch beeps.
At the beep, switch to the next exercise, which should work a different part of your stomach.
If you become fatigued before 30 seconds is up, simply rest until the next exercise begins.
Start with just 6 minutes total. Longer than that and you might have trouble getting out of bed the next day. Gradually work up to 12 minutes total.
There are many abdominal exercises besides the basic crunch. Here are just a few, along with the abdominal muscles they target. You can also invent your own.
Ins and outs: (upper and lower abs) Lie on your back, hands at your sides or under your buttocks. Move through the following four positions: (1) legs extended and 6 inches off the ground; (2) legs bent and pulled toward the chest; (3) legs extended up to the ceiling; (4) legs bent and pulled toward the chest again.
Crossover crunches: (obliques) Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. With your hands behind your head, raise your shoulders off the ground and twist toward your left knee. Lower to the starting position and repeat, this time twisting to your right knee.
Straight-leg flutter kick: (lower abs) Lie on your back with your hands under your buttocks and both feet 6 inches off the ground. Keeping your legs straight, kick your feet in a flutter-kick motion.
Dying cockroach (sorry PETA): (upper and lower abs) Lie flat on your back with your legs straight, heels just off the ground, and arms extended above your head. (Be careful not to arch your lower back.) Lift your legs while simultaneously raising your chest and reaching for your toes (your body makes a "V"shape). Return to starting position.
End your circuit-abs workout with the following stabilization exercise. With this one, try to hold the position for 60 seconds, but don't be surprised if you're shaky after 30.
The stabilizer: (entire abdominal area) Think pushup position here, except your body weight should be resting on your forearms instead of your hands. Push your body to the "up"position, tighten your stomach, and keep your shoulders, back, buttocks, and heels in a straight line. Now hold.

Hey you guys!!!!
Not much time to post today, but wanted to say "hey" since I haven't been on all week.
Haven't done much of anything this week. Tried to run yesterday morning but after about 2 miles into the run I felt like I was going to be sick. So I just walked the rest of the way in. I knew I had indigestion but man I felt sick all day yesterday. I guess it could have had something to do with the jar (yes I mean jar) of salsa I had with dinner Monday night followed by two brownies for dessert. YUCK! No wonder I felt so  !
Anyway today I'm fully recovered from my food hangover of course promising myself that I'm never going to eat like that again....yeah right!
I'm dog sitting again this week and have to go pick it up this afternoon so I don't know that I'll get to run until Friday. Oh well..guess it will just be one of those weeks :confused3

Sunny-Leave it to me to have done some weird sport like martial arts! I did about 2 years worth. I took a japanese style and then a korean style. My personal theory is that the quailty of the specific school/art all depends on the teacher. I'm sure there are plenty of people who are very passionate about a specific style, but i think they pretty much all have merit. Find a good teacher. You should look for one who requires discipline and respect and is good with children. Basically I would find a school where it is obvious that the teacher loves what he/she is doing and teaching and not a school where it is really a showcase for the teacher's tallent! It is really fun. Some places even have classes for parents and children. Beware.... if you started taking lessons, the IC could get out of control!!!!!

Sounds good to me. But be really careful with the leg lift type exercises. You need to make sure you maintain a neutral spine position, that your back does not arch. With your existing back trouble, it would be safest to get a drs opinion on what's best for you back. A pilates DVD might be a good idea, too. That way you get instruction along the way of proper form. The one I really like is: http://www.collagevideo.com/in-stock-videos/3398.htm
Krista - Wow, looks pretty intense, but I'm no expert so I guess I'd do some of the exercises they suggest. Don't go too crazy, though. Remember, the main reason why you're doing this is to strengthen your back, not get washboard abs :rotfl:
I know it says to do it after the run, but try 3 minutes of light abs before the run to stretch out your back-nothing too drastic. Try & buy a ball. Most sports places carry them or @ TJMAXX or Marshalls have them for cheap, too(have them blow it up for you if you buy @ gym or sports store). The ball takes the stress off your back, the ball is your friend :earsgirl: .

Christa - I run after biking pretty frequently. I find that the faster I am spinning, the more confused my legs are!!!! I think your body will get used to it. I try not to torture myself on either discipline (i don't have sunny's inner commando) I generally expect a moderate speed on both if I am stacking a workout. Also, I have been wondering to myself and now all of the marathon training thread, whether standing in the saddle uses the same muscles as running. I kindof think it uses simmilar ones, so i have been limiting how much i stand when i'm riding a hill. I still have to stand a little. i can't help myself. (I do it for Lance)
Good luck! Keep up the riding!!!!! It will just make you a cooler person, if that is possible!

Hi Wish Team!
Sunny great pics. You so rock with the dedication you have found to make your goal and continue with it.
Add me to that abs abs abs cheer. I use the Winsor Pilates cd and absolutely love it. I had some back issues last year and when I started doing Winsor Pilates more seriously I have not had those back issues. Now let me say that I have not done anything Pilates for the last few months as I increased my running instead. (I really know better too.) Plus I have added back a few pounds and I am now paying for that. Pounds lost plus Pilates makes a great difference. I am back using the Winsor Pilates 20-min cd and hope that the back issue clears up for me.
The RW abs circuit is a hefty ab routine and one I would approach with extreme caution more b/c some of the exercises could cause further aggravation if you are not a bit more ab strengthened first due to arching that lower back.
The ball, or the basic Pilates should assist with a better foundation to build into that RW ab routine posted here. (imho) Sounds like a routine I might like to torture myself with when I grow up!
I did something I never did in my life today. I rode my bike to work (7-miler about) and I love it! I'm really not too sweaty and I will probably be able to kick it up a bit on the way back. There are hills in this so it was a bit more than I thought it would be, I am happy about it! My back seemed fine with it too.

Christa - the phrase 'set your watch for 30 seconds and do as many as you can' scared the bewhatsits out of me as I can see people going bonkers and ending up in a dreadful mess! I'm not criticising the RW team, they are aiming at a specific market who are generally in pretty good shape but I wouldn't recommend that particular approach to exercise in your situation. Slow and steady would be my advice - and I'm seconding whoever suggested expert advice - not neccessarily a doc, but definitely a qualified pilates teacher who can tell you what position to be in to do an exercise so it'll strengthen the right muscles without mucking up the other ones.

I'll add coveting those countdowns of anyone who will be there before January!
I've been meaning to share this with my fellow Garminites, but keep forgetting. Does anyone use the auto lap? I really like it. I set it for 1 mile and then I use the lap screen. This helps me try to be consistant mile by mile and I have all of my mile splits when I downlad. Very nice feature!
For those that had headaches after runs: Tuesday was hot and humid. My pace was slow, but no headace. I had about 32 oz of water and 30 of Powerade that day. I think that it made a world of difference!

Hi, everyone! I haven't beeen here all week, mostly because I have been so crazy busy but also because I've had nothing to report. I haven't had a chance to get out to wog at all since Saturday. UGH! Of course, I'll be walking like crazy this weekend at WDW. Can't believe I leave tomorrow! Thought about taking my workout clothes with me and then decided to just enjoy the weekend with my friend and count on all the walking (and pushing her wheelchair) as my excercise.
Sunny -- You know you have been one of my heros for as long as I have been on the WISH board, but those pictures really knocked me on my butt. Just last night I was practically in tears because of all the loose skin that now hangs from under my arms. It is so ironic to me that my arms looked better when I weighed 49 pounds more! I am so encouraged to see how beautifully sculpted your arms are. Now I really need to make time to add weight training to my routine. I do think I am going to get some hand weights to carry with me on my fountain walks and try to step up the intensity of those workouts. I'll use heavier ones for targeted arm work.
As for the lower back pain -- I was just at the doctor on 8/4 for severe lower back pain which he diagnosed as an inflamed sacroiliac joint. The therapy for this condition is the same as for herniated disk. The exercises are very straight forward including laying flat on your stomach on the floor and raising your upper body for 5 second holds. The therapy sheet also includes hamstring stretches. As others have said, though, he said a critical issue is abdominal muscles. He reminded me that before my tummy was really big and even though it isn't now, it isn't toned at all and the muscles are literally useless for supporting my body and my back is doing all the work. So, just as everyone here has encouraged, it seems like Pilates core strengthening, large ball work and other abdominal toning should help. Now, I just have to take my own advice. I hate it ;) when I KNOW what I should be doing and I don't make the time to do it. The one part I am trying to do is the 2 aleve 2x/day to help the inflammation even though I have been bad about the preventative stuff. Oh, yeah, one last thing -- he said that if my hamstrings were not as well stretched as they are and if I weren't as "limber" (how funny is that!?) as I am, I'd probably be in so much pain I wouldn't be able to walk upright.
Well, good luck to everyone this weekend on your training. I will be back in the new week! I'll miss you all, but I will be thinking about how the next time I will be at WDW it will be with KeenHo and about 100 of my WISH friends, to do the 1/2!!!

Yes I set my autolap for one mile, too. Its great to get back and upload the run to my pc and see how my lap pace, altitude, beginning-run, mid-run, end-run, correlate. I used to think I was pretty cool doing negative splits. Now thanks to Garmin I realize I'm on a steady downhill most of the way home! :rotfl: This weekend I'm going to park in the middle of the path (well, not actually "on" the path, but near the middle) and work both ends so I'm not coasting at the end of the run.
I'm fairly new to Garmin running. I haven't decided what "smothing" level I like for my pace. I don't like the ridiculous spikes, but on the otherhand, I don't like waiting a minute to see what my new pace looks like either. I know, picky, picky! I used to have one mile resolution (only knowing my pace as the mile markers went by), now I want 100 foot resolution :rotfl:
Helen-- Awh shucks  Thanks!
Cam-- Ive followed your journey since you joined WISH and I'm so proud of you!!!! As for lose/ugly skin, I noticed along the way that my arms (heck, whole bod) looked worse at some points than at heavier weights. I think as the fat cells shrink, everything gets a bit lumpy under the skin. But with time, the body does some reorganization and fixes itself (to a point). Drinking lots of water helps the skin regain some elasticity. Adding hand weights for your fountain walks is a great idea. I also did wrist weights for shopping, house cleaning, etc. I started off with 1/2 lb ones and progressed to 3 lb ones. (I haven't done that for a while). Its very taxing at first, but you get used to it. I thought for sure I would always have "bat wings" but they vanished. (My tummy is another story  I don't think that skin will ever heal completely.)
Mel-- thanks for the info on martial arts. The first lesson went really well. I liked the instructor (owner) and his assistants. I could see how sticking with this could be very beneficial for DS. We'll do another free lesson next Wed and then I'll decide. I'd love to take classes, too. But I can't afford the $$$ or time. I know there are some studios that have parent/child together classes, but this studio came highly recommend to me. They also have kickboxing. I'd love to let the IC take that!!!!! So what haven't you done?????
So today should be speed work. Ugh. I don't like speed work. Last night I took DS bike riding. He rides I run. I tried to maintain a constant leg turnover regardless of what speed he chose. It was interesting.

Haven't posted in ages. Exercise has been non-existant for too long. First because of a crazy work schedule and then because of surgery last Thursday. I had my rotator cuff repaired. He also for the bicep tendon was ruptured and had to do a lot to repair it because of the fraying. Now I should be as good as new. It only took a year tgo convince him that it hurt all the time. I have to respect his procrastination and try other remedies first and not be knife happy. The bandage came off Tues and the stitches come out next Tues. He decided before the surgery date it would not be a scope surgery so I now have a 4 in incision from the front of my shoulder to the back. Good thing I don't care about scars and such. I also have a 3 inch scar across the top of my left shoulder from a prior decompression surgery.
Goal is to start doing exercise of some form starting today. It will be either walking or exercise bike cycling. It still is painful to swing the arm too much and since I don't have to wear the sling anymore, it pulls on the stitches when it hangs down sometimes. It still feels really tight.
Mel - thanks for the birthday wish. Now I'm a year older but I have no intention of acting my age. The will come when I retire MAYBE. Don't they always say, you are only as old as you feel. I want to stay active for as long as possible.
Need to get motivated and go get a new tire on the car. Erin hit a block of wood in the road which put a large hole in the sidewall. The car only has 8000 miles on it but of course the tires aren't warranted for road hazzards.
Will try to be less scarce and will try to get Xterratri to start posting again also. Her schedule of classes is crazy but she makes time to ride her new "baby" on a daliy basis to stay in shape. I am trying to convice her to post a picture, it is the right color for the Dis boards.

Greetings to you all!
Another crazy work week so not much time on the boards for me! I blew off my long run on Saturday because my body was just worn out. I made up for it by walking to the Panthers pre-season game on Saturday night. It was about a 3 mile hike if you include the ramps to my "skybox". I got back on schedule on Sunday with a run with my trainer. Tuesday was speed work and upper body strength training and tonight is cardio intervals and abs. My trainer has really upped the intensity recently and I am starting to see some big changes. I think he probably got tired of hearing me whine about my lousy 5K times. I have another race on the 27th which is really just to get the bad taste out of my mouth from the last race.
I have enjoyed reading all of your posts. I too am a stability ball convert and I do most of my ab work on the ball. I admire all of you for your dedication. We'll all do so great in January!
Enjoy the rest of your week. Go Panthers!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BREE AND JODI!
:bday: :cake: :bday: :bday: :cake: :bday:
We need Christa to make some of those death by double chocolate cookies for our birthday celebrations
Kathy...welcome back! Glad to hear your surgery went well!
Sunny...wow...amazing photos! I told DH I kinda wished I'd taken some 'before' photos at the beginning of all this, but that was my camera avoidance period.
Krista...we're living it up lately! We've got football 3 nights a week right now! :cheer2: I thought of you when I saw Hines Ward at the Phil-Pitt game. So what do you think about Terrell Owens?
Susan...how was the game? I haven't been to a professional game since we performed at the Bandits game when I was in high school marching band :sad1:
Carrie...I set the Autolap for 1 mile, too. I finally turned off the AutoStop...seemed like it would stop while I was still going, then take too long to stop when I actually did.
This has been me this week:  Some wicked upper respiratory cooties! I did my two interval days, but didn't cross-train on Tues. Today is rest and football-watching! I have my appt at the Y tomorrow for the personal trainer to help me with a weight/circuit plan for cross-training...really looking forward to it!
Is anyone else getting excited or is it just me? :bounce:

Hey CAM---welcome to the sacrum trouble makers club. YOu can be an honorary member :) since your injury/problem is in the same neighborhood.
I had to invest in a sacrowedgy--and it does wonders. Not sure if it will help you--but it might. I was in PT for 3 months---it had been extended courtesy of a rear ending. I have what you call them non-existant abs too. Though they do exist a little bit now. :).
And the different when I run is totally awesome.
My sacrum acts up every now and again--but for the most part I am green lighted.

For those of you who think that I have fallen off the face of the earth, I think I have ;) I have been resting my full 9 days....and then some after my nice long walk! I think it is time to get back to it. I am feeling fat and lazy!
I know there are LOTS of you that have encouraged me to walk the half at Disney and you MUST know that I want to in the worst way...not sure that it is in my future right now though. My dream job is turning into a HUGE nightmare. I can't really believe how much I HATE my job. I am already looking for a new one! The owner is a bully and my boss is a cheat...neither charecteristics I find the least bit attractive. I went on a job interview yesterday at Starbucks yesterday......it is THAT bad. :confused3 As much as I want to say heck with it all, I think I really need to see what is going to happen with this job situation! If it is ment to be, I will there walking it with you guys.....if not, I hope to be there to cheer you on!! You have no idea how this kills me.
I have worked on a pros and cons list of staying or going.....here they are, tell me what you think:
Pros of Staying:
IF I actually make my commisions that I am supposed to make, evnetually I might be closer to making $30,00 a yer. (Of course the $50,000+ that I was told that I should easily make is a pipe dream)
I am actually doing something I "want" to be doing, and it looks good on a resume.
I have health insurance.
Pros of Working at starbucks:
It will be closer to home. Less wear and tear on the caar, gas and me!
I get a free pound of coffee every week that I work! Who know?
There is the opportunity for advancement.
I get a free pound of coffee every week that I work!
I will eventually get health insurance.
Cons of Leaving:
I will be broke....more so than I am now!
I will be working retail.
I will make a lot less money...by at least $10,000 a year.
I will miss my office job.
I will miss my secretary.
I will miss the Monday-Friday 9-5 thing......well 7 -7 thing, but hey!
Argh! As I type this I get more and more confused.... :confused3 Ignore me for a while! Chat amongst yourselves and we can revisit this later!
I think the only way to help this situation is to go for a nice little walk tonight! I do think I am going ot do just that.
Thanks for letting me try to figure this all out. I think a walk might help clear the brain! Ya jsut never know what is going to pop into your brain on a little 2 miler!
Off to get back to work. Just had to take a break! Happy Training!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I think Krista suggested this b/c Christa (me) did not. I may run like a wild woman, but I did not suggest this madness! :goodvibes
Melissa - Thanks for the advice on the biking. I think I overdo the biking then try to start out running @ my normal pace. Biking is COOL! I want to do a Tri so I can write on my leg. :teeth: Hey...Disney does have a tri in September, but that will not be something I am going to attempt......Yet. I can snow ski, but do not enjoy it....it is a control issue. I am too out of control on skis. My DH is great @ it. We went together once and got in a fight on the slopes b/c I was so scared! Bless his heart! He is a good man!
lizdotcom - WOW! Here is a big group hug! :grouphug: Hope that you can figure things out with your job.

Happy Birthday Bree and Jodi!! :wave2:
I have a race etiquette question. So you are talking to someone who has ran a half or full marathon. Is it acceptable or proper to ask his/her time? Do runners like to share race stories? I don't want to offend people by asking but it seems like everyone freely asks me what my time was for my half marathon I ran last month. I don't mind sharing at all, I actually appreciate their interest.
The reason I ask is because my husband is a big golfer and I have observed that asking about handicaps or scores is kind of taboo.

Chirsta - Doing a tri might be cool, but...... Do you know what they had us write on our right calf? I'm going to tell you about all of the numbers and leave that one for last just for the suspense. OK... We had to write our number on both arms and both thighs. Then we had to put a number on the bike helmet and on the bike top tube. Then we had to wear the running number for the running portion. I did the tri in june and i actually still remember my number. Finally the right calf. OUR AGE. UGGGGHHHHH. NOT COOL. In fact the tri was just a few days after my 35 b-day. Let me just say I am not a big fan of the number writing thing.

Good morning! Finally Friday!! Although no sleeping in for me tomorrow, I'm doing my first 5K. :goodvibes If you think about it, send me some :wizard: tomorrow at 9 am.
I did 50 minutes last night, I walked 3.56 miles and I think I was doing 14:05 miles. That's a little slower than what I've been doing recently, but it was really hot when I was walking, I think that had something to do with it. Plus I had just gotten home from work and I hadn't eaten since lunch, my stomach was growling and I kept smelling people grilling out. Not good! :sad2: I had to laugh at myself, there was a couple out for a walk, just strolling along, not being crazy like us. They were about a block ahead of me and I kept getting closer and closer and closer. I have to be honest, it was kind of a thrill to pass them and then they never caught back up. Stupid I know, but it made me feel like a speed demon!
Happy Belated Birthday Bree and Jodi!!!!!! :bday: :cake: :bday: I hope you both had great birthdays.
Mel--Are you ready for some football?? :) It felt so good to sit down and watch the Saints-Patriots play. Steelers play the Dolphins tomorrow, but it's not being televised (at least in Cincinnati), so I'll miss that game. We have NFL Sunday Ticket, so there aren't any games Stephen and I miss, only pre season. NFL Sunday Ticket and TiVo are the BEST inventions ever!
Liz--Good luck in your career decision. I must say working on Starbucks would be pretty nifty. If I worked there, I'd be on a caffeine buzz the entire time I was there. :hyper:
Jodi, Helen, Sunny, Christa, and everyone else--thanks for the ab/back help. I haven't started anything yet. I have a pilates DVD, maybe I just do that for a little bit and see what happens. Hopefully I can show you guys my six pack in January! :rolleyes2 :rotfl2:
Cam--Have fun in the World. :earsgirl: Stephen and I will be there in 64 days celebrating our 5th anniversary.
Well, I'm at work, so I better do something, huh? Good luck to everyone running/woggin/walking/cross training/and lifting today. Be careful!! Happy training!

Krista - Good luck tomorrow. :wizard: :cheer2: :wizard:
It was SOO humid yesterday adn I felt awful to start. So, dh asked me in the first 5 minutes if I wanted to cut it short. Next week we officially start training for the full. I asked him what the schedule was for next week's runs: 30min-30min and 4 miles. Well tehn, we don't have to do 50 tonight. We did 50 Tuesday and are doing 4 Saturday. We cut it to 30 and I had nothing left. SO, I think it wa a good decision, even though I whimped out.
MelR - Yikes! That's not nice! I think they woudl have had me in tears if it was around my 30th. That one hit me hard. I don't hit 35 until nexy year. It fdoesn't sound like a bad age to me at all, though. ;-)
Collen - It's perfect for to ask around here, but I have no idea about the outside world. All questions are in bounds here.
For all you pro football fans - Want to give me the odds of the Lions making the "Drive to Detroit"? :rotfl2: They are nice to nap to on a Sunday afternoon, but I'll put my heart in with my boys in blue on Saturdays.
I apologize to those I missed. We're getting SOO big! Thanks for sharing teh stories everyone?

Good morning everyone! I have been so busy at work that I have had way too many rest days. Tomorrow I plan to get up early and run/walk 4 miles. I don't really have the time to exercise right now, but I am one cranky monkey when I don't get my workouts in. If I get a spare minute this weekend, I am going to try to come up with a better plan. Unfortunately, that might mean getting up at 4:30 am instead of 5 to get in the longer workouts before work. Ugh! Plus they started spinning classes at the gym, and I would like to try at least one of those, but they are all during lunch time. Okay, now my head is spinning. I think I will stop thinking about all of this right now.
I signed up for my next 5K. It is sponsored by the Airport Authority and will actually be held on one of the runways at Bush Intercontinental Airport. It should be really cool. I just hope they remember to shut down the runway during the run or else I will definitely have a PR trying to outrun the planes! ;)
Krista- Good luck with the 5K tomorrow. Sending lots of PD your way. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
Hey Everyone!
Thanks for the birthday wishes  ! Bree, I hope you had as good a day as I did.
Krista - Good luck tomorrow, you'll have a great time!
Cam - Have an awesome trip, go on the pirate: s of the Caribbean for me!!
TXBelle - I know, it's tough fitting in the early a.m. runs/workouts. I get up @ 5 a.m. as well, 4:30 would be heinous. But given the choice, I'd still go in the a.m., this way, once you get to work & start to stress, at least your training's already out of the way, right?
Lizdotcom - Ugh, tough choices, huh? Whichever job will give you less stress & more happiness is the one to go for. I was a full-time paramedic for 10 years in a shnasty city here in CT when I flat out quit. My son was entering Kindergarten & I knew I had to be "around" more (single mom). Up until he was 5 he was in daycare up to 4 days a week. I'd drop him off @ 7 & wouldn't get him until almost 5:30 sometimes! My job was stressing me out big! time. Trying to get out on time, etc... One day I'd had it, I quit & got a retail job where I only worked 9-3. mon-fri & weekends when DS was with DX. I took a humongous pay cut & pretty much ended my "career" (if you could call it that). I know this isn't the exact situation you are in, but the $loss & not enjoying your job thing is the same. I can tell you that today, 5 years later, it was the best thing I ever did. The lack of stress & no more feelings of nausea going to a job you hate, make up for the loss of $$ tenfold.
IMHO, do what's best for your health, right? As the old addage goes, "If you don't have your health, you don't have anything."

Kathy, Hope you have a complete and speedy recovery.
I am glad that we have so many of us posting. I am so sorry that I will not be responding to all of us individually. Time is not on my side these days.
It is exciting to hear how everyone is doing and the progress with 5ks.
It is exciting to hear that many of us are becoming more excited and yup, Me Too!
Liz, :grouphug: I'm in on that group hug. Hope you can figure out something. I totally know the situation of what is the right choice for you. No one can tell you and that doesn't make it at all comforting. Hope you can get in those walks and that you are better able to destress over it all as you work through this.
Yesterday was another bike ride to/from work. Whew! What a workout and how I never imagined that it would take such effort to go those miles. I feel so out of shape after all this running, working out, and such all year too. I can't imagine how I would have felt if I had not been doing what I am.
Oh, any of you young things feeling bad about putting your age on your bod...well wait til you are my age. You should be proud and wear it proudly! You are a healthy--whatever your age--and are doing more than many younger than you.

Hey everyone, its going to be time to start training soon. I know I've not been around at all and I'm going to try to be around a lot more. I need to get a move on now. I saw an orthopedic specialist about my foot/feet and he gave me the go ahead to start training. The tingling pain has completely went away so I should be good to go.
I'm really looking forward to the marathon this year. I now have 2 1/2's under my belt so I know that I can do it. It will be so much more fun doing the 1/2 knowing I CAN DO IT!
Looking forward to getting re-aqainted with most of you and to meet everyone I haven't seen before.

Thanks for the encouragement! After a night of some good sleep, I feel much better this morning! Still frustrated of course, but thnking a bit more clearly.
Argh, PMS and lifechanging matters are NEVER a good combo!
Now, about you procrastinators....maybe I am not the person to be saying this as MY registration has not yet been taken care of, BUT....IF MONEY IS NOT AN ISSUE.....you have NOTHING to lose with this. I say just do it! Pleasee fell free to use me as an example.....so far I have started 2 events and finished none! How is that for a track record? We have all been here and had our stuggles, our failure and our successes, our good days and our bad...but the one thing that stands true is we all come back here and tell it all. I know there are A LOT of Bingham fan's here, myself included....and it is so true....the miricle is not in finishing, it IS in having the courage to start! One thing that I keep thinking aobut and reliving over in my head, time and time again is thinking how surreal it felt, big, fat me...in corrals with a lot of people who were far more fit than I!!! I also had to chuckle at all the new shoes I saw....silly people! Anyway, I was there in the midst of somehting big. I did what I could to prepare myself for race day, sure I could have and should have trained better....but that may alsways be the case...but I was there. I followed through with my commitment....regardless if I finished, I was at the start. Off went the gun and off I went. I had doubts! Lots of them.....but as I walked not even the first mile, sadly I saw a handful of people walking back and never even making to mile one. Those people were by far much more fit than I and for whatever reason, they didn't make it. Sad, yep! It was very sad and disappointing I am sure...but just like me, they were at the start line. And for that they they did their own personal best. And whatever your own personal best is, I say go for it! You only fail when you fail to try!!! Will I be entering another half? You be ya! (Will Lily be there with me? She better be! Hint hint!) There is NOBODY that could have told me in January when I started training that I would REALLY do this. I would have never believed them. And you could have asked me on teh day of my first half if I would be doing another one...Lily can tell you my answer to that....and I WILL be doing another.
All I can say is jsut do your best! If that means you get up on race day and make it a mile...tehn good for you....that is a mile more than most who are still in bed sleeping! If you have come this far in the journey, you really can't turn back now. If you are slow, someone will be there with you....if you are scared, there are many sharing your feelings with that as well. If you feel inadequate, you could not be more wrong! If you are feeling fat, be proud that you may just be the fattest person out there but you are doing it ( I say this one from experience). There really is no reason you can't get out there and do what you can do. There really is no good reason not to start the race.
Now, as for the finish, you are going to finish where you will. It may not be right at the finish line....and that is OK.....you did what you could! Kudos to you! I am the motehr of invvention for the 9 mile 1/2 marathon, don't ya think? But when you do make it over the finish line....and you will....take pride in getting there....even if it took you a little longer than you thought, or a lot longer! When you get there, I hope that you too will have LOTS of people cheering you on as they did me...the feeling of that is unforgettable and replaying that in my mind is awesome.
The moral of this very long story is to go for it! You can do it! If I can make it 9 miles, anybody can do it!!! And ya never know... I just may be there too......if so, I will be at the very end of the pack, waddling along.....working on getting to the finish, being oh so proud that I made it to the start!

Had my appt for cross-training this am...twas very cool! I now have a 45 min circuit-weight routine to do every Friday! I asked for emphasis on arms, core and thigh adductor/abductor since I think that's what's not getting exercised when I W/R. Maybe someday I'll be as buff as Sunny! :sunny:
MelC...great to see you back!
Heather... :rotfl: at the mental picture of you outrunning the plane! That's hardcore training :dog:
Krista...good luck on the 5K :wizard: ! We have Bucs-Jags tomorrow night since we're in the Bucs' TV market.
Carrie...good point! We haven't discussed college football yet ;) We're big Gator fans! I don't mind the Miami Hurricanes 'cause they usually beat FSU. And of course, we're big fans of any team playing against FSU! The SEC has become a much tougher conference since I was at UF.
Colleen...good question! I always feel a little embarrassed talking about my times and PRs with the big dogs.
Liz...you're an inspiration! What a great way to put it all into perspective! Your job situation is a little tougher. I went through this myself recently. Do what you love but if it's not a good situation, then can you find another company where you can do what you love? I'm winding up my last few days on my editorial job and can't wait to go back to being only a PA!

Here's the PD you requested ;) You'll do great!!!! I can't wait to hear your review.
Good luck to you, too, Heather! Runway running. Hmmm. that's a new one to me!
Mel-- I was born in the Colo. Rockies and lived the rest of my life in snowy country (New England) and I don't downhill ski, either. I figure why learn a sport I can't afford? I'm thinking of getting some cross country skis this winter, though. Last winter was non-stop snow. I'd rather write my age than my weight on my right calf :rotfl2:
MelC-- Glad to see you back!
Well I didn't do speed work last night because I learned that Dx was on call this weekend which means I couldn't do my long run. So I took 2 hours of vaca this morning and cranked out 16 miles (2:43). The weather was gorgeous. My overall time (including stops) averaged 10:08. I had some "just at" 9:00 splits in there. I'm in love with my long run again (we have a love/hate relationship). I tried the parking in the middle this time. It worked out nice. The only tricky part was seeing my car on the horizon at 8 miles. I gazed longingly at my comfy car but the IC quickly barked "What are you looking at???? There's nothing over there for you. MOVE IT". Luckily, this took place inside my head so no unfortunate strangers were startled :rotfl:. Now I'm making plans to take DS hiking tomorrow. The trick is to plan a hike that doesn't require too much piggy backing the day after a long run!

Sunny - With all of the weight you have lost and new toned buff bod, it looks like you would love to write you weight on your calf! What does your Dx do? Is he an MD?
Did speed work yesterday and then a short bike ride pulling boy. I am so sore today. My thighs, rear and waist are sore. I cannot figure out what I did to make my waist sore!
I am hoping to get a long run in this weekend, but the main man is on call so i will have to steal away. I thinking about doing a 20mile ride pulling boy tomorrow. I'll really have to stock up the trailer with m&m's and suckers! The boy has it made doesn't he? Some goober always sees me pulling him and says, "It must be nice, can I have a ride?" That is when I just act like I am too out of breath to talk and I smile back!

I guess age is better than weight! I had a girl tell me she had to put her weight on her right calf! Double UGGGGGGHHHHHHHH! :scared: :scared1: :crazy2: What tri did you do? Girl! You do everything....you are my hero! :teeth:  :teeth:
Krista - With a K, good luck on your 5k....sending FAST wishes your way! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
Did the big 10 today with DH and Bree. Wasn't too bad except for the heat! Hopefully it will cool down soon here. :cold: But I don't think so. Dh did great and passed us both. He didn't know where to stop so he ended up running 10.8 instead of 10.  Of course, his legs are longer than my whole body (no, not really, but he is very tall and has nice legs :lovestruc ).

And by the way, sweetie, I have seen your picture -- if you have an untoned abdomen it is definitely hidden somewhere in your very slender body!
I'm sorry....give me a minute.....

Okay--that should tighten the abs  .
I have a squashy tummy :teeth: And I'm very good at dressing---so the lines don't reveal the squish/squash.
But thanks for the compliment!

Your pixie dust worked!!!! :wizard: :wizard: My goal was between 40-41 minutes. I finished in 39:04!!!!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: I ran a little bit of the course, but mostly walked it. It was so hot, that an ambulance and fire truck was there because people were passing out and getting sick. It was such an awesome feeling crossing the finish line, I can't imagine what it's going to be like to cross the half marathon finish in Disney. I'm pumped now!!
I'm going to eat now, I'm starving!! Happy training!!

Sunny, everything Cam just said! Thanks so much for posting your before and after pics!
I'm plugging along with my training, doing the best I can in the heat and humidity. Spent the day Wed at Cypress Gsrdens for an ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) event and both DH and I nearly enede up with heat exhaustion, and that after almost continual hydration and spending most of the afternoon in the water park! Sooner or later this weather will break and I'll be able to get back to wogging, but probably not until after our move.
An addition to the wildlife list - not recent though. DH and I were hiking in the Shenandoa National forest in VA a few years back when a momma bear and her cub crossed our path! About 15 min later we saw another solo bear about 50 yards off the trail!
Krista, great job on your 5K!

Did a 20mile bike ride pulling the boy this morning. when I pull him we go to Pea Ridge National Military park b/c it is slow moving one way traffic and it is mostly shaded. did not see any really weird wild life today. did see 2 deer and 1 armadillo. He was so patient to be in the trailer for that long. That is the longest ride I have done with him!
