Ack! I just got an e-mail from my wedding coordinator saying that disney would no longer provide cosmotology services after October 1st. Way to throw a wrench in the plans!

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but what does this mean exactly? That they no longer do manicures? (That's what they talk about on the disney weddings website under "cosmotology") Or is it that they no longer have people who do hair and makeup??

Hair and makeup. I was given a list of spas and other private hair dressers to call.

DFTW no longer has a 'department' doing hair and make up. Your wedding coordinator/event manager should be able to give you a list of outside vendors who will still come to your room and do your hair and make up the day of the wedding.

Did they give a reason for this?? I loved the people who did mine. I hope they didn't lay these people off! I know they talked about doing lots of other things around the resort (characters, celebrities). WOW What a shock...

What about if you have an MK photo session.... do you think you will be able to get someone at that time in the morning.

I was just given a list of private hairdressers, and the name of several spas in the area. Here is the e-mail I received:
As of October 1st, 2005 Walt Disney World will no longer be providing cosmetology services. Attached below is a list of vendors to call that will assist you with your cosmetology needs. You will book directly with them and pay them directly. Just make sure when you are calling them to give them your wedding date and the time your ceremony is and they will schedule accordingly.
I will post the list they gave me if anyone is interested.

Jen--please, please post the list!! My wedding is Nov 1 and my MK photo shoot is Nov 3 and I'm really, really upset about this :( :( :( :( I haven't heard a word from Disney about this yet.....I'm so sad....one more thing to worry about :( :( :( :(

That's a bummer. Not that I mind paying directly to the vendor,, but I would feel better hiring through Disney because I know I could trust them to be there that morning. Hopefully since they provide the list of vendors, that means they are good quality cosmo's.

That's what I'm really concerned about...the quality. I think I'm going to have to do a trial run now (HOPEFULLY I can get an appt for it this close to my wedding)...no way in the world would I feel comfortable with a total non-Disney stranger doing my hair or makeup on my wedding day without have a trial run. I'm so upset about this :( :( :( :(

That's awful. I can't believe it. I just can't imagine the reasoning behind such a decision.
Disney overall has had some crazy changes lately. I noticed during my visit that something just wasn't quite right. I have heard some other people making the same comment.

One would think that Disney would look at it's cosmetology service as one more way to make the Disney Bride feel utterly pampered and so much like a princess. Being a future Disney bride, I hope Disney will realize their grave mistake in this decision. You would suppose with all the revenue from these weddings, they could have some of the obvious inclusions on site such as cosmetologists. My heart goes out to all of you with an upcoming wedding, though I'm sure, with or without the Disney cosmetologists, you will all look stunning.

I am sure you will all be beautiful but it is so unfortunate that Dinsey will not be providing the services and that it is another expense to an outside vendor (not towards your minimums)

This is upsetting news! I think doing things with Disney made me comfortable. Now that i don't know who will be doing my hair and make-up I am upset. How will I know if I like the person's style? And how will an outside person's fees be? I can imagine travel expenses will be added in. This makes me very unhappy. :confused3

Jonette--I'm greatly concerned about that too.
Luvndisney--those are exactly my concern too. That was the one thing that made it "ok" about getting hair/makeup done by a total stranger...you knew that whoever it was doing it had the Disney stamp of approval and other people on this board LOVED them all. Now we're totally on our own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why would Disney do this to us?!???!?!?!! Argh!!! I'm so upset!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like weddings aren't stressful enough as is!! Thanks a lot, Disney :(

Just to add insult to injury, my wedding is a mornin wedding at Epcot. What if these new vendors won't want to come to my room for 6 or 7 am? I am hopeless with my hair and makeup for formal stuff. Not to be overly dramatic but I could just cry.

Just an idea, but rather than trusting the unknown strangers, perhaps it's time to start hunting the guest lists over for someone y'all know who is gifted in the makeup and hair department? I mean, it's NOT optimal, but for at least some of you out there, it may be possible, right? At least that way you could get practice runs in if they live close to you?
I know it's no real solution, but I am seeing so much sadness on this tonight and thought I'd just offer the thought. :(

that sucks, ive heard so many great things about disney cosmo, i wonder if the salons on site will send a cosmotologist to your room or if youll have to go to the salon, i was so happy with the idea of this being handled by my em & a professional coming to my room to do my hair & makeup, my moh & our moms. im also concerned about the mk bridal portrait session now. hopefully disney brides after october can shed some light on this situation. i hope disney stops the cutbacks, this new guy is really hurting us & the disney magic.

OK I have spoken to my contact at DFTW and it's true Disney Cosmo will be no more.
However the contacts that you have been given on the list e.g. Irene and Lisa are ex-Cosmo ladies. They are offering the exact same service they did when they were part of Disney-Cosmo - they'll still come out to you before dawn on MK shoot days.
Also Irene and Lisa know lots of other ex-Cosmo staff and although they haven't made it onto the Disney list as yet the people that they know are also offering the same service. So if you speak to either and they can't fit you in for your wedding ask them if they know of anyone else.
Serena who did my Cosmo was an Independant Consultant at the same time that she was working for Disney and I have her private number so I'll give her a call later on today (when you're all awake) and ask her if she is also going to be offering a private service.
I'm sure that this is a good move for the Cosmo staff as now the money will go straight to them and honestly it's not in their interest to provide a bad service :)

That is not a good decision on Disney’s part in my opinion. That is a service that the vast majority of Disney brides use, and it is a huge convenience. I’m just shocked they would do this. I also hope that the wonderful cosmetology cast members haven’t all been laid off.
I noticed on the list that Irene and Lisa are listed. They did hair/makeup for my group, and they were wonderful! Just thought I’d mention that in case anyone needs a recommendation.

When DD got married, Disney Cosmetology was really Niki Bryant and her fleet of hairdresser and makeup girls - does this mean that Niki has effectively left Disney? I thought she was running the spas at the GF and Saratoga Springs?

While this dies not apply to me as they will be long gone. I am sad to see them go but excited becasue maybe I can find someone a little cheaper to do it all for me. AKA that budget topic again :(
Please let us know about the outside venders when you all use them as neede to start looking around now :(

I had my hair originally done at the GF Ivy Trellis. I was NOT happy. When Serena came to my room to do my make up, she fixed my hair. I have really think long frizzy hair. She did an AMAZING job. If she is added to the list I would definitely have no problems calling her!!

I just booked my hair with Lisa who was on the list my wedding coordinator gave me. She quoted me a price of $65 for hair, $55 for makeup. So it's actually cheaper now that it's not directly through Disney. At least that's a plus. :)

I'm lucky enough that my bridesmaid is a make up party rep and has just done a wedding make up course so that she can do mine - I just need someone to fix my hair - but I was thinking of trying the spas anyway as I'm on a tight budget.

What a bummer! Well atleast they can give a list of vendors but I feel everyones concern. Ive been told that hair and make up should have a trial run so they know what you want and this will certainly make it more difficult. Also BTW (change of subject) everyones talking about MK portrait not being on the same day as their wedding? :confused3 is this a better option?

I just got back from my wedding. Lisa did the hair for my maid of honor and I and they turned out great. I didn't do a trial run, just told her what I wanted and it came out perfect. While talking to Lise and the makeup person (I can't remember her name now), they said that Disney was outsourcing them and they were all losing their jobs in a few months. I would definitely recommend Lisa to any Disney brides.

I, too, can recommend Irene. She did my hair and make-up for our 9:00 A.M. ceremony and for the MK session 2 days later. She was on time, put me right at ease and I was very happy with her work.

I had mine done there and the Disney Cosmo lady redid it for me. Ivy Trellis doesn't do many bride hair-do's. They didn't really have a clue.

I am fine with not having Disney Cosmotology, especially since it seems to be alot of the same people for less money! I do, however, find it interesting that they are still including the Disney Cosmotology information in the planning packets -- I just received mine yesterday for my March 2006 wedding, when Disney Cosmo will be long gone.

I would not recommend Ivy Trellis based on an experience my sister had there. She was the maid of honor in our wedding and decided to highlight her hair at home herself before she left; it went from dirty blonde to orange and bleach streaks. We took her to Ivy T. to be fixed & they made it worse!! $150 later she left in tears, she went a brighter shade of tiger stripe red 2 days before the wedding so went back, they made her look like a clown again! Then we took her to a place about 45 minutes away and they fixed her back to a decent shade. Now i know this is with color, but they seemed very incompetent; they may be fine with wedding updo's but i would have a trial run first. Because our experience was a nightmare there, and my poor sister didn't get to go to any of the parks before the wedding b/c she spent almost 2 full days there plus 1 at the other salon! good luck! :wizard:

I wouldn't worry. I can tell you Carmen at GF/Ivy Trellis does excellent hair. She did mine for V&A dinner and it was spectacular. She also cuts my hubby's hair every time we are in the area. There is also another lady that was working while I was in..she also did an absolute fantastic job..she ws doing wedding hair while I was in the other chair.

Okay, SO our wedding is 10/18/05 and it's coming up FAST! SO when I heard all the news about Disney Cosmo being no more I FREAKED and called my EM/Coordinator/their assistants ANYONE from DFTW. So I called and spoke with an assistant since my EM/Coordinator were out of the office and got the confirmation that Disney Cosmo IS no more after Oct 1. GREAT! <insert sarcasm here> So I hop on here and get the number for Lisa and give her a ring. I book with Lisa for my trial run, my day of and the MK photo shoot. After booking all that I sigh with RELIEF (F.Y.I. Future Disney Brides from what I was quoted with Disney Cosmo she is a few dollars more but I've heard she's worth it!) Anyway! A day passes and I get an updated Budget estimate for our wedding and Disney Cosmo is STILL on there. I then call the number that is listed for Disney Cosmo and CONFIRM that even though they ending Disney Cosmo that they are still doing brides that have BOOKED before Oct 1. I then FREAK again because I booked with Lisa (just the day before) and she was SUCH a pleasant person on the phone and everyone on here made SOO many great comments about her. SO I call my DFTW AGAIN!! Hoping that my EM/Coordinator SOMEONE pertaining to my wedding would be there. And yes someone was!! So THEY called Disney Cosmo AGAIN and got a SECOND confirmation for me and sadly I called Lisa back and cancelled my appointments with her. (pinching all the pennies I can at this point!!) So you're probably wondering what the point of the story is . . . CALL YOUR EM/Coordinator and just make sure that you either HAVE or NOT HAVE Disney Cosmo. For the sake of Lisa and all the other outside cosmo vendors (and soon to be outside vendors)

Disney Cosmo charges a rate of $200 for hair and makeup for the MK Photo Session. So Lisa's $150 rate is a lot better than Disney Cosmo.
