Just saw this in OneStepAhead.com

DH has carried the car seat on several occassions by us just putting a strap through the body of the seat. It was not the most comfortable thing. This looked really cool.

We bought the carrying bag through them and it wasn't that bad. It felt just like another duffle bag.

I actually used a bungee cord to secure the car seat to the back of the stroller on our last trip and it worked great! I just hooked the back of the car seat on the top of the basket and put the bungee cord through the slot the car seat belt goes through and hooked it on each side of the stroller. (We have a Kidco umbrella-style stroller that looks similar to a Maclaren). Of course if you do this make sure the car seat doesn't make the stroller tip over backwards! :)

What kind of car seat do you have? I was given the great tip of letting the straps out on our Britax Marathon, turning it upside down, and wearing it like a backpack. I hardly knew it was there, believe it or not.

You might want to double-check your car seat manual--mine for the Britax Husky (much heavier car seat) specifically says not to carry it by the straps. If it is okay with the Marathon then that would be a great plan.
