Hi. Wondering how often Vistana comes up on Sky Auction. It was there when I first started researching my trip. Now that I know that's where I want to stay, I haven't seen any auctions for it!!

It still comes up - but not as often.

Sheraton Vistana got mad at RCI (probably because of Skyauction) and now allows it members to use II also.

I think the excess inventory now goes to II instead of RCI. So that is why SVR is not appearing as much as it use to on skyauction.

I have no idea what happening to Orange Lake. It is too my knowledge still only dealing with RCI - so there should be ones on skyauction.

everytime I look for an exchange or even a break - generally OL is there. so it is still using RCI - so I don't know why it is not appearing in skyauction.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what do you mean by II?

I'm not sure I totally agree with spiceycat's explanation. There may have been some discontent from Sheraton, but as I remember it, the various Homeowners Associates voted about whether they wanted to stay with RCI, go to II exclusively, or affiliate with both. We owned in the Fountains only at the time, where the decision was to offer the flexibility of using both companies.

I certainly was not privy to any of the discussions leading up to the votes, so there may be some truth that Sheraton was unhappy with RCI. I just can't say.

Vistana is readily available in off season months such as September. The availability is limited, on both RCI and II, for peak times such as around Christmas and Spring break. Many RCI owners are also switching to RCI Points because Vistana is a cheap entry into the Points system. That may also have some affects on availability.

What time of year are you trying to travel?

Yes, what time of year did you wait to travel? i've had good success in getting Vistana in Oct. but I usually book it 7 months in advance.

I've never seen it on the ready, set, go...auctions and can't remember seeing it on anything last minute either.

We are going Oct. 1 through Oct. 8. (or possibly the 3rd through 8th, might do first 2 nights at Nick Hotel).
I know the hotel is available, but I don't want to pay rack rates.
I hope it isn't too late, I would love to get in on a Sky Auction rate!!!

II - Interval International - the other big exchange company.

there are several smaller exchange companies - but only two(2) big ones - RCI and II.

I am trying to get a week at Vistana for Nov.6-Nov.13 and nothing is coming up with either company (not showing for that week on Sky auction either). Anyone know how often they release units to rent for either II or RCI? I have been looking regularly for 2 weeks now (I need 2 bedroom sleeps 8).

Hi, I use Tripadvisor.com to check on the quality of hotels and resorts that I look at - especially if I am going to book through skyauctions - so went there to see what would happen. Use their "Quickcheck" for rates and availability. Expedia outside TripAdvisor showed nothing, but Online Hotels showed availability in both one bedroom and two bedroom villas, but requested you call due to limited availability. Priceline, HotelMart USA, Expedia and Hotels.com all had rooms for the the resort. I like Trip Advisor because it compares so many sites at once. I book a wonderful hotel through it last spring in paris that other sites said was unavailable. Good Luck!

the inventory that often appears on skyauction is from "excess" inventory that rci supposedly has

as far as rci.com, you have to be a member to access the website proper

they offer extra vacations some at good prices and last call vacations the most expensive being 199$ for two bedrooms when available usually about 45 days out

the inventory is very dynamic though and is constantly changing

right now in last call they are listing about 2 bedrooms 8/6 for 199$ over most weeks in september along with an abundance of 4/4 1 bedrooms for 149$

I am on RCI last call almost daily, and up until Mar/Apr 2005 , they were offering tons of great properties on last call for Ontario, then NOTHING.. still nothing. I thought with kids back in school Sept, that Ontario might be opening up?
Any thoughts?

dynamic inventory plus summer in ontario.....when timeshares would be used and in greater demands

or the owners got wind of it and put a stop to the offerings

who knows how RCI works

at least with the internet you do not have to depend on a VG finding you something, you can see it and hold it yourself
