We will also be on that cruise. There will be five of us: Myself, my wife, DS(13), DS (11) and our DD who turns 2 on November 11th while at sea! At least that will be their ages at the time of the trip.

This is our second cruise. We were on a four day Wonder cruise in April 2005. Due to the schools here in NJ being so tough when you try to take older children out for a few days, I thought a quick trip while schools were closed might be just what the Doctor ordered!

With a little luck I can talk my wife into a seven day cruise sometime in the future. Maybe 2007 or 2008...wish me luck.

Hope to see more posts by people who will be joining us on.

Hello!

We are on this cruise also - we're from the UK but getting married in Florida on the 6th November, and this our thank you present to DD who will be 7 by then for being our bridesmaid and a wonderful daughter!

It will be our first cruise, so I'm avidly looking at these boards to get all the tips I can.

I'm really excited, we've never cruised before - I just have a feeling it's going to become something we love, and it's a bit of an expensive habit to have!

Congratulations!!! Will it be a Disney wedding?

DH and I will be at WDW beginning 11/4. We love the F&W Festival at Epcot. DD (age 11) will arrive with BIL probably on Tuesday 11/7 in the evening. BIL is not going on the cruise. When we return from the cruise we're going to head back to WDW for one more day and probably fly home on MOnday.

No, it's not a Disney wedding - we're getting married on the beach on Anna Maria Island on the 6th, then cruise on the 9th, and then back to Anna Maria until 21st Nov. Can't wait now!!

11/9/06 Wonder will be our first too. It will be MH, DH and SH (9). Wow! I didn't even think about it being Veterans. In New Jersey the weekend is the time of year everyone heads to Florida. Its teacher's convention in New Jersey.

So now that we're inside the 75 day mark - anyone made any plans?
I've changed Palo reservations twice. With it being our first cruise, so hard to figure out if/when to leave DD(11) on her own for dinner (or for us to eat two meals) and if /when to miss one of the shows. I already know there aren't enough "nights" on this cruise. :rotfl:

Still undecided about what to do in Nassau. I know DH will want to hit the casino for awhile.

I did book the eco tour on Castaway Cay

Now I just need to find time to start reading all the material I've been printing off this site for the last few months.

Also, anyone else visiting F&W before the cruise?

As I stated in the thread before, it is also our first cruise. We booked Palo for Saturday Night. Wasn't sure either but just picked something and went with it.

We are doing the Rose Island Beach and Snorkeling Experience in Nassau. Tried to get information on the board about this activity and received very few responses. The responses were positive. The description on website sounds good and I think we are going to be happy with picking this excursion.

In Castaway Cay we booked the package that includes, snorkeling, stingray encounter, float rentals and bike rentals. We won't be able to do it all, but it is less expensive than the separate items.

I've been addicted to the DISBoard since booking our cruise a little over a month ago so I have been devouring all kinds of information.

Happy planning. :cool1:

Just switched my reservations today. Had Por from 11/3/06-11/11/06. Decided to change, switched to room only asmu for 11/3/06 and 11/4/06 and start my land portion 11/5/06 at the poly. I have been wanting to try a dcl and stay at the poly, so this is perfect.. :cool1:. I am really looking forward to it, it will be me, my dh and dd's 14 and 11. Also, how can I learn what my dinner rotation is?

It would be great to know before we sailed.

wall, welcome!

Yes, we have DD - she's 11, but turns 12 in Dec.

How do I check if I am registered for an early dinner or late dinner?

Log in a register at Disney Cruise LIne. You can make shore excursion reservation, registed children for the clubs, and make palo reservations. It will show you which dinner seating you have; although I have read that if you don't request the early, you most likely get the later because more people request the early. We're night owls, so we requested the later one.

Also, how can I learn what my dinner rotation is?

I have searched and read and searched and read; and alas, I think this info is only available after you're on board.

Glad to see we have some more people. In anyone (or everyone) is interested, if you send me a PM or post here with first names of all your party, ages (when under 18) and where you're from, I can try to edit my first post to compile a list in one place.

What is the Dumbotron?

Mint Addiction,

It is the name Disney addicts :earsboy: gave to the Jumbotron movie screen that will be added to the Wonder during her drydock. There's one on the Magic right now and they use it to show movies, sporting events, etc. It will be located above one of the pools (I'm pretty sure it's the Goofy pool).

Mint Addiction,

Rpsemont was completely correct in what she said. If you register on the DCL site and then call up your reservation it will show which seating (first or second) they have you scheduled to do. That's about as close as you can get to knowing your rotation in advance. You can call the reservations folks and request a specific rotation, but that won't always be honored, it's a REQUEST, only.

Also, when you board the ship if you don't like the rotation you're assigned you can go to Wavebands and try to get it changed. They will have folks at a table there who are doing that specfic thing, as well as folks at another table making/changing PALO reservations.

According to the DIS DCL FAQ thread, here are the rotations currently in effect:

3 day cruise
TAP 5:30 and 8:00
APT 5:45 and 8:15
PTA 6:00 and 8:30

Just saw the Wonder in Dry Dock two days ago. I live in Hampton Roads, VA and it's in dry dock in Norfolk, VA. I was really suprised to see it and really couldn't believe my eyes as I was driving down the road.

After reading posts on the other forums I now know that it will be heading back to FL shortly on or around the 13th of October. I look forward to seeing the work they are doing and how cleaned up the ship will be for us !!!! :woohoo:

I agree, things are starting to happen!
I had booked GTY 12 and we've been assigned #2541, which is a category 10. Looks fine to me. Closer to aft stairs and elevators, which everyone says is less busy; lower in the boat and "pretty central" which many say helps you not feel the sea too much. We don't mind being under Wavebands - we have a tendency to be late nighters and late sleepers and always sleep with a TV on anyways. We're all starting to get real excited (for DH read that real nervous :) ) I need to make sure I have the MOST recommended anti sea sickeness medication which he plans to start taking Tuesday :rotfl:

Sounds good to me! (Not having a clue where the Promenade Lounge IS!)

Promenade Lounge is on Deck 3 (the same level you board on from the terminal). When you board the ship the CMs greet you in the Lobby Atrium right in front of Triton's dining room. They will tell you to go on over to the Parrot Cay dining room for some lunch (or you can go up to the Beach Blanket Buffet, which is my choice). If you walk straight across the ship from where you are greeted there will be a hallway that takes off to the left down the port side of the ship. The hallway takes you past the Promenade Lounge on the way to the Parrot Cay dining room. Promenade Lounge is spread out along that hallway and it's also the location of the Internet Cafe. It's a convenient place to meet and has been the location of DISboard meet-n-greets on other cruises. Another option (if you want an outdoor venue) that has been used in the past is the secret Deck 7 overlook. Just depends on what everyone would prefer, indoor or outdoor.

I am new to DCL so I may be telling you something you already know. We were wondering why we haven't received our documents and it is now 23 days until we go. I called DCL and found out that since we did the online check in we just have to print those documents. I actually knew this but didn't know we wouldn't receive something. They said that about 14 days prior we will receive the DCL luggage tags and the Bahamas document. I also call the airline booked by Disney to get our seat assignments and they were already assigned too. Easy.

I checked in online. What I got from UPS was a DCL envelope containing the Bahamas immigration form, luggage tags, a checklist w/directions on where to find the DCL Welcome Center in Orlando Airport, and just a portion of the normal cruise documents that covered the "Important Messages" about boarding policies and DCL ground transfer information. Basically, the same as you were told when you called in.

This is different than I've been used to in the past. On previous cruises I have checked in online and still gotten the whole cruise document booklet. This my be the way it's going to be done from now on for online check-in.

Matters NOT! I'm cruising in 17 days!!!:cool1:

Still no docs here! I just e-mailed my TA. She had sent an e-mail that she was going on a cruise before mine and wouldn't be around, so hopefully I'm catching her before she leaves. I'm a little concerned because I put my office address for them to be mailed to. We're never home during the day and I hate to have stuff left at out house.

Finally book DD air, but am paying more than I hoped to. Still hoping SW will have a sale.

So, when is everyone arriving at port? I told DH we should arrive early, and he said why? I said cuz that's what most "experts" say - more time on the boat! I'm not sure he thinks more time on the boat is really a good thing. We have drop BIL at the airport on the way. Unless we drop him 2 hours early, we'll probably get to port around 11:30.

Layed out the clothes last weekend. I'll start ironing this week. Getting VERY excited!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I emailed my AAA TA this morning. She responded that the docs would come to her and we would come in and go over everything. I don't know what she can tell me that I haven't learned from the DIS :disrocks: .

Anyway, our flight out of Philadelphia is 9:30 am on 11/9 and we are expected to arrive at MCO at 12:30. If everthing goes smoothly, I imagine we will be at the port by 1:30/2:00.

My doctor is so funny. He is a Disney World fanatic. He knew from last time I was in that I was doing something Disney soon. I reminded him that it was DCL. He said that we have your blood pressure under control but it is just at at enough elevation that you are advised to take a physician with you when traveling. I said at his cost. He said insurance would cover it. :rotfl2:

For those with kids and those on their first cruise I can understand wanting to arrive early and tyring to be some of the first onboard. It's fun to explore the ship for the first time, and for those with kids, most times the kids CANNOT WAIT to get into the pool, so getting aboard early is a big draw (don't forget to pack swim gear, sun block, etc, in your carry-on if you're looking to get straight to the pool).

For me, I normally board a little after the initial rush so I don't have quite so long to wait for the staterooms to open up.

We booked our cruise very late in September, I had to convince my husband that he needed a vacation. We will be going to Coronado Springs and then Animal Kingdom Lodge after the cruise. We are traveling with our two daughters, ages 7 and 6. They hope there are some girls their age to play with. princess: princess:
We are so excited it is almost here!

I showed up at AAA this morning because I just didn't get why everyone had their docs and we didn't. Sure enough, my agent was off for a few days and our docs were there along with our complimentary two piece luggage set that our dd has already claimed. Oh well, they are a perfect size for her :yay: :cheer2:

Mint Addiction,

A few posts back I suggested the idea of meeting at 3:00 pm in the Promenade Lounge on Thursday. A couple of folks seemed interested.

How does that work out for everybody that's interested?

Again, We're in for the meet.

I picked up my LGMH at home depot yesterday! Now to figure out how to best display"them.

Wondering if I can get a door sign made in 4 days, too.

We leave Sat AM (early!!) and have to work all week (of course). Wish I was a little further along on the packing!

I haven't seen that particular mnemonic before, but I'm guessing it stands for Lime Green Mickey Head. Home Depot has paint color samples in the shape of Mickey's head & ears. The DISboarders have "claimed" them as symbols of DISboard membership. Lots of folks create pins, tags or stateroom door magnets out of them to wear/use onboard and at Disney theme parks for identification as DISboarders. Just about anything in lime green has been used, such as ribbons, plastic wristbands, etc.

:thumbsup2 YOu're Right! Not sure which board I saw it on - I certainly didn't make it up. I figure maybe I'll try to just laminate it into an ID tag for my camera.

Got Red, White and Blue Mickey heads to ehlp with the door sign.

I can never find any of the LGMH's when I'm at Home Depot (must have a bunch of DISers here in San Antonio grabbing them all :tilt: !!). I check for a new shipment everytime I go in.

Instead, I cut out a homemade (read slightly-flawed) Mickey head from lime green thin foam and attached magnets to the back to create a door sign. Still need some of the Home Depot paint samples, though, to make a name tag to wear to DIS meets.

Oh nooo....the weatherman is predicting a 60% chance of scattered THUNDERSTORMS in the Bahamas!!!! (per the 10 day forecast online)

Has anyone ever on this thread ever cruised in bad weather? I'm new to cruising and would love to know what my family and I should expect. Will the captain re-route the ship to better weather or will we just have to brave the storm?

Just wondering.

Mint Addiction,

First of all, don’t put too much stock in the weather forecast. :happytv: Many times the thunderstorms come and go within an hour’s time. When I sailed the Wonder in July we got to Nassau and out of the blue a storm blew in and there was a deluge for nearly an hour (I was standing in one of the alleys watching the water rise up to the door sills of the shops along the street) and an hour after that the rain was gone, the clouds were gone, the water along the street had drained away and it was back to normal.:beach:

On short cruises like this there isn’t a whole lot the captain can do. I’ve heard that some cruises have reversed the order of the ports to get better weather, but with only two ports of call in close proximity to each other, that might not be very effective. Again, on the July cruise after leaving Nassau on the way to Castaway Cay there were local squalls popping up along the route. :sail: The captain sailed out a bit and found a calm area so we could all enjoy the Pirates IN the Caribbean party and the fireworks. Rest assured, the captain will do everything he can to get us into clear weather, but sometimes it can’t be done in the time and space available. In those cases, put a smile on your face and soak up some liquid sunshine!

If it starts raining when I’m trying to enjoy a beach day, I just head into the ocean. Then it doesn’t matter how much it rains…I’m wet anyway. It can put a damper on things (no pun intended), but it’s not worth stressing about. Also, it’s cool to sit on the balcony or up on Deck 10 at night and watch the lightning in the distance as you sail along.

Here’s hoping for some pixie dust pixiedust: for the cruise to ward off any major thunderstorms!

We're flying into Orlando the evening before the cruise. We're just going to stay at the Hyatt Regency Airport. After the cruise, we're going to mellow out at the AKL for one day, then head back to work and school on Monday. Can't wait to get back on the Wonder. We were in Nassau in April and saw the Wonder in port. Daughter wanted to stow away, but I told her she had to wait.

I've been reading the same thing. I'll still go - if it's bad, I can leave. You never know, we might be on the first cruise where DCL makes a positive change to the activity, especially if they've been paying attention to the message boards and comment cards!

I am so sorry we did not make it to the cruise dis board meet. Our flight from Philadelphia was slightly delayed and by the time we actually boarded the ship, it was just around 3:00 pm and we needed to get lunch before the buffet closed. Hope everyone had a great cruise. We really enjoyed our first and hope to cruise Disney again in the not too distant future. I will write a cruise report sometime soon; however tomorrow I leave for a convention in Atlantic City and only have today to unpack, do laundry and repack. :wave2:

DisBoard Friends. I know this is a tall order; however we want to make things right.

On November 11, 2006 (November 9th 3 day) Wonder, we thought that our daughter put her disposable water camera down on the counter at the Stingray Encounter Hut on Castaway Cay while putting her vest, mask and snorkel in the bins. We pick it up off the counter (approximately 11:45 am) and put it into our beachbag. It wasn't until much later that we discovered that we had three cameras instead of just two however at that point we had no way of knowing which was not ours. We are planning on developing all three cameras and having CDs created. We would like to mail the one that does not belong to us to the family that lost it. If anyone knows who this family is, we would greatly appreciate some assistance. I am also going to send an email to DCL just in case they reported it missing.

Just checking in to say Hi and to report that we also had a great cruise. I, too, hope to write a trip report.
We did rebook on Board ( for April 2008!) - another 3 night.
I asked DH and DD three different times, would you want to do this again and if so what length, and each time I got a different answer. :rotfl:
The pricing was alot more than what I paid for this trip, but April is a different and time and she told us no gtd 12 available, only cat 10 - so she assigned us a secret porthole room. I need to show it to DH on the map and decided what to do. Truth be told we had an inside room on deck 9 and loved it.
Anyway, hope to see you onn a cruise again soon.

Nice meeting you Bill!
