I didn't think much of the previews but then again, I'm not a critic. I'll see it and make my own decision from that.

I'm not saying it will stink. Just that the trailer doesn't do anything for me. But Pixar hasn't let me down yet, so I'll be going to see it regardless of the trailer.

If you look at all of the previous Pixar movies there has always been some sort of human element to bring the audience into the story. Sure there were talking toys, fish, monsters, and bugs but you got the sense that these creatures lived side by side, not beyond our human world (yes a Bugs Life didn't have any visible humans, but you knew there were there). From what I've seen of Cars, there is a purposeful lack of humans: no drivers and the race fans are cars. Though I'll wait to see the film before passing judgement, I have a feeling that Cars will be Pixar's first stumble, meaning that it will recoupe its production costs and then some, but it won't make the list of favorites.

After seeing thing cars previews, I think one of 2 things is true
a) This movie is really going to be bad
or
b) Someone really messed up on the preview
No one I know is excited about this movie after seeing the preview. I hope the moving is better than the preview makes it look. I noticed they delayed the release for a year. Maybe it needed fixing before it was released.

guess I"m the only one on here who thought this movie looked good becuase I like cars. The Incredibles I didn't care for and I didn't go to, but to me Cars looks really original and good. But maybe Cars won't do that good, the success of CG movies have been slowly declining lately (Disney kinda chose the wrong time to move into the CG field, that's why you try to be a trend setter not follow others.)

I have to say the preview looked so bad that Pixar or not, I am passing.
Maybe I will be very surprised and read rave reviews. But to me it looks like some kid's Saturday morning Tommy the Toaster (or whatever) special.
I wondered if Pixar purposely made a dog just to get back with Disney. Pixar thought they were flying high and could do no wrong, wanted to get out from under Disney, wanted to create what would appear to be at least an attempt, but really made a D-a-w-g.
(No offense to WDWHound. :rotfl2: I have two pooches myself. ;) )

Honestly, I was very unimpressed with Incredibles and the Cars trailer on the DVD looked like nothing I'd care to see.
Time will tell.

I"m not making up my mind about the movie from a teaser trailer.

From what I have read about Cars, the trailer has nothing to do with the story. i believe the story is about some older cars going on a journey down Rt. 66 , finding there identity and dealling with getting older and not as usfull as they where before. (a little like Mr. Incredible). pirate:

So this you think Pixar has some conspiracy to purposefully do bad. And that corporates aren't always after money but sometimes purposefully do bad to make a point.

Desperate for support?
The fact is no they wouldn't. Money comes first no matter what. As for Cars while I agree it doesn't look that great (yet). PIXAR would not make a bad movie just to hurt Disney. Pixar is relatively new and already has a great reputation. They would not purposely do something that may hurt their reputation. Furthermore Pixar needs to show that they "still got it" if they want to have any bargaining power with Disney or any other Studio. Remember they still don't have a studio lined up to distribute their films after Cars.

I guess we all have different taste - I think the trailer looks kinda cute - I know my teenage son is getting a lot of play out of "DadGum!" that the older pickup says at the end of the preview.
I agree that sometimes the trailer has little to do with the movie - "Bug's Life" looked to be about bugs eating a leaf in the original trailer, "Incredibles" looked like it was just about an overweight crime fighter.
I suspect I will go to "Cars" and love it.
I was really looking forward to "Home On The Range" based on the previews and ended up disliking it a lot, so go figure. :earsboy:

Every Pixar trailer to this point has had me pretty excited about seeing the film. Not this one. In fact, quite the opposite. Each time I see it I think, "oh, a Chevron commercial." I'm fearful that Pixar may finally lay an egg. I sure hope not.
Any truth to the rumor that Pixar backed up the release date to scrub the film a bit more after less than desirable focus groups?

GC, opposite reaction here. I've always been pretty blase about the 'early' trailers for Pixar films. In fact, many people talked about how 'dumb' Finding Nemo and The Incredibles looked in the early trailers...and they seem to have made a few bucks.
I guess it is about priorities. The Pixar early trailers seem more about whetting an appetite for the scene or for the charactes without giving up the plot, letting the artist concentrate on story instead of marketing.
Disney's last effort, Disney's Singing Cows Movie, had the audience rolling at some of Rosie's cracks, but the movie itself was absolutely and completely forgettable. Marketing over substance, mayhaps?

If you have Quicktime you can view the trailer at the Apple site:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/cars/
You can also view it at Pixar website, again you'll need Quicktime
http://www.pixar.com/theater/trailers/cars/
Hmm, with Owen Wilson supplying the voice for Lighting McQueen (the red race car), shouldn't then have given the hood a slight dent?

I saw the trailer and thought it didn't look very good too. Something about it. When I heard the concept I thought it would be adorable. But once the previews came out, it looks like a dud.
I just watched the preview again and I think the thing that makes it look that way is that almost the whole preview just shows them racing. They didn't show the cars being cute.
I've loved all the Pixar movies so far except for the Incredibles. I was so excited about it and rather disappointed. The concept was awesome, but the presentation lacked. There were so many possibilities but they didn't use them.

I got you Air, but still the Cars trailer doesn't do for me what previous ones did. Two perfect examples are Monsters, Inc. and The Incredibles. The teaser trailers were made up of a single scene that wasn't in the final product that were extremely well done and really made me want to see the films.
In Monsters, we got the concept. Two monster buddies who scare kids in their rooms. They ran into a little mixup on location and went at it like an old married couple. That one really hit the spot, and the movie didn't disappoint.
The same for Incredibles. We weren't entirely sure what it would be about, but we met the lead character, got into his mind just a bit and saw some well executed comedy on the screen in the short few minutes.
With Cars, it seems like they don't have anything to show us. So much of the trailer is a NASCAR race. It that what the movie is going to be about? Watching an animated NASCAR race? Really leaves me wondering and doubting more than anticipating.

It seemed obvious to me that Pixar is desperate to get to young boys in particular (boys like cars) and dads to take them (dads, generally speaking, like NASCAR). While I think this obsession is a bit on the needless side, I think I see what is going on. And I think they will hit that demographic, but they will get comparatively scant support from the rest of their customer base. Cars will still be a winner, but maybe not a blockbuster.

As a shareholder of both Disney and Pixar, I'm *very* interested in how this movie might do. I bought PIXR pre-Nemo and have enjoyed nothing but growth. Can't help but wonder if I should lock in some profits before Cars comes out, not knowing if it will be Pixar's first dud.
I was completely hooked on the trailers for Monsters Inc. and The Incredibles. The Cars trailer? eh ....
It's funny to me because I don't think the trailer looks that great. However, I ALSO didn't think Finding Nemo, Monsters INC, or The Incredibles looked that great in the trailers. I love all three movies and so do my kids. They just finished watching The Incredibles about an hour ago for the 50th time! :) I've learned not to judge Pixar movies by their trailers!
