Panhandle Property

I have heard through our local rumor mill, that Disney just purchased 55,000 acres in the Panhandle of Florida. I assume it would not be for a park because people pass through or w/i 150 miles of this area on the way to WDW. Has anyone but me heard anything about this? I just wonder if it could be another "Celebration!?"

It is safe to say you local rumor mill is wrong. These types of rumors pop up all over the country all of the time, and are wrong 99.9% of the time. If they were true Disney would own half of the United States and the entire state of Texas by now.

Oh man- I was ready to move! I had also told my DH who runs a Gyrotrac to go ahead and weld some mouse ears to the top and to repaint it red/black/yellow.

Panhandle-- nice place to visit but not to own property. I understand the homes have an event wall. That's where they post the pictures of the hurricanes that come thru!!

Does Disney still "own" Celebration? I know they turned over the running of the place to the homeowners association after they sold a certain percentage of the land. They also were trying to sell the main street business district, but I have not been following it close enough to know if that has taken place yet. :confused3

55,000 acres is 86 square miles or twice the size of WDW. Any land purchase of that size would be extremely hard to keep under wraps.

The Celebration Company is still part of The Walt Disney Company.
