View Full Version : Does no one have a spare $80K?

What is up with that 1000 point OKW contract that's listed for sale? Every time I see that listing, I try to imagine what the owner's story is. Time's a-wasting on those 2004 banked points---lower the price already!!!!

Unless....it's a plot to raise values overall...hmm, perhaps they could start listing those points for rent on the rent/trade board..... :upsidedow :upsidedow

Heck, I'd have trouble coming up with the money for the maintenance fees, let alone the $80K. Someone before mentioned that large contracts are sometimes owned by corporations or companies and the points are used for employees. I can't imagine an individual owning 1000 points in a single contract.

Dh and I were oogling that one a few days ago..... we couldn't imagine buying one huge contract like that with no way to split it up! Ug! What is that - $3850.00 or so in maint fees every year! Ug! Well - you could always (gasp, duck the flames......) rent some points out to pay the fees and use the rest to have fun!

Awww can you tell us the general category the seller falls under without revealing any specifics? ie Actor, Politician, Musician?

I was thinking it would make a nice corporate purchase(and a good tax deduction)...isn't anyone making millions that could fund a DIS DVC conference!!! :rotfl2:

Tried to sell my :rotfl2: DH on it, but alas he showed me the two nickels and pocket lint he had left over from our vacation that ended on July 17th! :rotfl2:

Not that I should be giving advise to a seasoned pro......but IMHO, the seller ought to strip and rent the 2000+ points for $20+K. Then turn around and drop the price around $65/point. All he needs is someone (notice, I don't say "buyer") to put a bid in for it and surely DVC would ROFR at that amount. That way, he can make $85+K, less commission.

Everyone wins in this scenerio. Seller makes more $, TTS gets a big commission, DVC gets OKW points for cheap and the "buyer" doesn't get stuck with a 1,000 point albatross.

Seriously, I don't know who has that contract, but it doesn't matter. It's going to sit there a long, long time listed the way it is.

What were they thinking?

I suggested it to DH, too, once we got back from OKW a couple of weeks ago. I think he thought I was serious! :scared1: He said no.

Does your lint look like anything...Mary...Elvis...Jim Morrison? Maybe we could sell it on Ebay to raise the money for the contract? ;)

Cruise- there are some Brokers that encourage that sort of thing, but not anyone you'd want to do business with.

I would not want to jeopardize TTS relationship with Disney.
They do become wise to that sort of thing.

It's just not worth it!

Tom,

I am sure its hard to be goofy with us and yet talk about things in a way that is good for your company and respectable! I, for one, am glad you are here and posting with us. Its nice to get a real understanding of things from time to time (when mostly we just talk together and spread our own silly rumors :p )

Thanks for being here.

I'd be more concerned about the "what-if" that contract went thru at $65 and I had to pay for it. :rotfl2: That would still be $65,000 PLUS closing costs.

It is a bit suprising that a contract that high is listed at $80 per point.... I mean I got mine at $74. :confused3

Oh... and if you wanted to find out who was selling it... just make a bid and see who's on the paperwork... :rolleyes1 j/k

Well if they were a big celebrity (or thought they were!) then they might not be listed. I know that lots of country music stars have thier homes in Nashville in names other then thier own.... Suppose to keep folks away, but I am not sure it works.

That's brilliant, and frankly, if you posted it at $65, someone probably would make a real offer. At $80, I think it's been proven that no one willl....

Laura, You bet it can be a real balancing act. I'd like to think I learned my lesson after getting my share of flames when I first started posting.

Lessons learned:

1. If I can't say something nice-DON'T POST!

2. If it's a controversial subject-DON'T POST!

3. If it has anything to do with "authoritative" posters-DON'T POST!

4. If it's discussing other specific brokers-DON'T POST!

5. If it's discussing Resale vs Direct- DON'T POST! Whoops, I transgressed today! Must Switch to Survival Mode: I will avoid the boards tomorrow. If I don't see the flames, they must not exist!

6. If it has absolutely NOTHING to do with my business, politics, religion or anything that has absolutely NO social redeeming value-POST!

Hey, at 80 bucks-a-point, it's going to sit there...for a long time. I can see a small contract going for $80, but a large contract is just unsellable unless it is offered at below market rates.

And while it sits, the owner has to do something with the points, rent/use or bank the ones he can.

I can see Tom's dilemma. It would be unethical to find a straw buyer who has no intention of going through with closing, just to have an offer on the table for DVC to exercise ROFR. And advising someone to rent points would tie up the closing process too. Plus, I'm sure Tom did advise the seller on a fair selling price. So if the seller wouldn't listen to that, then why should he listen to my brilliant idea.... :rolleyes1 .....
