What is the difference between SD and Compact Flash?
Are some brands better than others? I have a Kodak one now.
Thanks

Hi, do a web search on digital film and you should be able to get a site that explains the differences.

I would call your digital camera manufacturer. I believe SD is like Sandisk and a more common memory card. I think compact flash is not as common and only available for over 128MB.
I would stick to SD since it is more common and easy to find in stores. To get a real techie answer called your camera manufacturer.

SD is a different size..... secure digital (3/4*1/2) usually much smaller than say a compact flash, which is about 1*1, their is another one similar in size toa compact flash but thinner.... don't know the name of that none of my electronics use it....
from what i hear the manufacturer really only makes a difference after hundreds of rewrites...... although don't really know if it's true

If you have a Kodak camera, they use SD's (secure digital) or MMC (multimedia card). There are many different brands however...I don't personally care for Sandisk, but that's just me...I have Lexar's and Meritlines and have been pleased with both.
Compact Flash is a different kind of card altogether (flatter and larger). But they have come in many different brands as well but, like GrumpyBa*D said, they are typically smaller. They now have SD's that go to 2 gigs (but the larger the storage area, the more pics you will loose if the card crashes...I prefer either 128's or 256's - I also have a Kodak).
Hope this helps!

Compact flash was supposed to be the standard but as they came out with smaller cameras they came out with smaller sized memory cards.

Thanks everyone. Yes I have a kodak camera and one kodak memory card. I wanted to get more for my trip but wasn't sure if I could get a cheaper one.
Thanks

Try mertiline.com...they have a high speed (66x) 256 card for about $26! I have two of these and they work great.

You can get a cheaper one, but you must still get the same type. Compact Flash and SD are not interchangeable.
