I've heard lots about it here on the board and now one has opened up near my work.

Can you tell me something about it.

Curves is a really great place to go for a quick shot of exercise (30 minutes). There are different machines that exercise muscles in all parts of your body. In between each machine, there is a step box that you can just walk in place on or do any other type of exercise (some ladies do jumping jacks, toe touches, jogging, etc.). They play a very peppy music track and a voice lets you know when it is time to move to the next box or station.

I really enjoy the workout. The only negative is that I don't get there as often as I like because they don't have an area to stage your children (which I guess is good because it is peaceful). Being a single parent, I have to have a baby sitter to go there.

I hope this helps. :flower:

I absolutly love going there......... I joined a few years ago and went for a year. After that, I felt as if I wasnt getting a good workout anymore so I left but I really missed it so I just joined again a month ago. I am not sure if I am just lucky but, I really like my local curves, the people that workk th ere are great! I have made so many frineds there and never have I felt akward going there. I go in sweats and an old painted up ripped shirt.....I mean, I really feel at home there. They will weigh and measure you once a month and most of them have other programs going on there. My curves is almost like a community center as well, they have helped people in need and do fundrasing things. My advice to you would be ask if you can get a pass for a week just to see how you like it. then you decide. good luck

I refer back to Whiskband--feeling like after a year you weren't getting anything out of it-
I am a personal trainer so the advise I am giving you comes with alot of training and knowledge.
Curves is a great place *to begin*.
Your body quickly begins to adapt to the exercise that you do . So after 6 weeks you should begin to see a difference( you should feel different almost right away). Then after about 8 weeks you need to change the exercises that you do . Curves does not have this option. They only have so many machines and they only work one way.
Some people join with the thought that doing this is better than doing nothing and I agree. But if something is worth doing at all isn't it worth doing right?
Atypical Curves workout of 30 min. burns 180 calories ( according to my latest ACE Personal Trainer mag)and that is if you go full force the entire time.
Most people don't go full the force the whole 30 min so they burn *considerably * less calories than that.
All of that being said I would recommend not signing a year agreement. Pay month to month if you join at all then look for a facility that has more workout options. You can join any gym and workout for only 30. It doesn't have to be a gym tailored to 30 min .
I hope I have helped in some way

I do agree with tony............. after a while I did feel as if I wasnt getting a good enough workout. this is true however, I do believe that you can make it a good work out! I have to say in my own experience, I began to CHAT way to much with the employees and other memebers, almost like a social gathering. This time ( now that I have joined again) I decided to make it work. They have now put up charts in front of each machine that tell you how many reps a begginer, intermed, advanced and super should be doing, so now I make it my personal goal each time to do at least the advanced amount of reps. I have noticed, I do sweat alot. I also bring my Ipod with me. This has worked great. Now, I dont really talk to many folks whiel working out and if the gym is semi empty, I dont nessesarily go along with the 30 sec routine, I do all the "super" reps and jog very fast ( to my own music ) for about 30 secs. and I really felt the difference! You can also go around the curcuit a 3 time howver, this will take longer than 30 minutes.
All in all, I have to say I did go back because, I felt very comfortable at my particular curves. And although, I do believe it is a great beginners program, I have found a few ways to continue to make it work. I would also like to say that besides it being a begginers plan, it could also be a great maintance plan. Finally, if you curves is anything like mine, you will find alot of support and encouragment there.
let me know how it goes.
good luck.

Thanks Tony and Renee.

I wasn't going to commit to a year with Curves. I am already a member of a health club and really enjoy it. Just looking for something a little different for the summer. So a month-to-month basis will suit my needs.
