View Full Version : JULY 2005 POLL RESULTS[Let's speculate... New DVC resorts in next 2-3 years?]

please do not do this poll!!! For fun I thought I would bump up a poll I did in the summer of 2005 to see how accurate we were.... (just for information purposes please do not do this poll)
It was a public poll so click on a number to see the responses
Just for the fun of it, let's speculate! What resorts do you think DVC will announce within the next, let's say, 2-3 years? You can choose more then one if you think DVC will annouce more then one.
Here are the possibilities...
Contemporary - long time rumor
Poly - you never know
GF - could happen
AKL - this was newly rumored
Eagle Pines - Yes, It was already announced, it would have to be re-announced
DL - lots of activity in DL lately
Hawaii - It could be really BIG
Colorado - another BIG idea
Another WDW resort - ???
Another non-WDW resort - ??? I would love to see more

my vote : Contemporary - long time rumor, but i would say closer to 4 years :cloud9:

I doubt we'll see any non-Disney locations unless they are a "prime" location, like Hawaii. And even then, it would have to be in a non-saturated market...the resort would still need to "sell" to it's owners.
If SSR sales continue to soar, then I think we'll see Eagle Pines.
The Contemporary would be nice, and actual construction costs a little lower since the utilities are already in place...however the purchase price and dues may put a damper on that location. There isn't a lot of room at the other Monorail resorts for DVC expansions.
Animal Kingdom would also be a possibility, the basic infrastructure is available. But, finding a location that would appeal to DVCers as far as "savannah" views that would also offer protection for the animals may be a bit of a logistical problem.

I don't know about the feasibility of it, but if AKL and/or the Polynesian got DVCs, I do know there would be one very happy DVC member in New Hampshire!

I voted for AKL. I might have to sell everything and start over....
If they build anyplace else... I am done! I don't like any of the other "rumored" locations.

Also, remeber to vote what you think DVC will do, not what you want them to do. I know it is hard!! LOL! I didn't vote for Eagle Pines even though I think (dread) that they will build it ...but I also don't think they will announce that one before SSR is done, not the 2-3 year time frame.
I voted for DL. I think it's a done deal, but I also think there is another one in the works. Not CR. ??? I choose AKL. Not really sure.

DH and I are in the process of buying into DVC, purchasing points at BWV. If DVC comes to AKL, we'll be buying more points there, provided they have some savannah view villas. Actually, considering how much we love eating at Boma and Jiko, we would buy points there even without a direct animal view, but would prefer it if you could sit out on your balcony and watch animals, just as you can from the regular savannah view rooms at AKL.

I would love to see DVC at either the AKL or Disneyland. However, I decided to vote for the CR. There is just too much noise about this one.

BTW - why are so many people voting for AKL? Is there any basis for speculating that this could be next or is it just wishful thinking?
Don't get me wrong - I would love to see DVC at AKL. I just have not heard enough to make me think it will be in the next one (or even the one after that). If anyone has any info as to why it will happen in the next 2-3 years, please pass it along. I would love to hear it.

On my last trip to WDW, I heard that the Eagle Pines project is dead and that DVC is going to concentrate on resorts that are part DVC and part Disney (ala Beach Club & Villas, Wilderness Lodge & Villas, Boardwalk Hotel & Resort) and shying away from standalones like OKW and SSR. So I would not be surprised to see DVC at Contemporary and Animal Kingdom Lodge in the near future (based again on what I heard on my June trip).

My Thoughts.....
1. CR - I would think about and add-on
2. AKL - I would probably do an add-on
3. Poly - Get my check book!!!

I doubt they will announce more than one in the next three years, and I think the most likely is CR, so that got my vote.
If they did announce more than one, I think it would be at two different sites, which would then make DL a likely choice. I'm just not sure DL has enough to really support a timeshare. DCA just isn't much of a draw, and its DTD district is much smaller than WDW's. I think Disney would be afraid to offer an option to WDW DVC'ers where they would end up spending greater portions of their vacation off-property.
We would like it, however, and would also like having a Hawaii option.
All just pure speculation on my part, of course, but I think a Tokyo DL location would be interesting...

I doubt there will be anything in the next 2 years...because I don't think SS will be sold out by then. I think that Disney is on some push for 100% occupancy rooms and restaurants and THEN it will expand as it will have created its own market. And while I wish the it might be CR and would lovelovelove it if it were the Poly...I don't think either will happen because of the instability of the land around them....tho on the far side between the Contemp and FW there sure seems to be enough room...What I'd like to see there is houseboat DVC! (to get around the instability issues..)
DL: hmmm. my question would be why? They have the hotels there (is it 3 or 4) and yes, there is that strawberry fields area...but I only like DL for 2 days at a time.
Hence my vote for Eagle Pines...tho if they decide on Colorado or Hawaii I might just decide to sell for them!!!!

***psst**** Poly
shhh.... you didn't hear that from me. :)
My heart says AKL, but my head says CR. THe infrastructure is there to leverage and the resort is getting a renovation. Adding a DVC there seems to fit DVC strategy as I understand it.

I'm under the impression that DL is almost a done deal.
I would LOVE to own at the CR!!
The only resort that would be a MUST BUY for us would be a good ski resort. I would sign up to buy 3 or 4 contracts of 150 pts each. But it would have to be SKI IN SKI OUT or a VERY short walk to the lifts. And it would have to be good airport access.
If you're out there listening DVC please consider Snowbird or another of the top Utah resorts.

If it is skiing it should be in Banff Alberta or at Mont Tremblante in Quebec or at Whistler in BC.

We just came back from DL after a West Coast cruise. They have DVC kiosks there. We were talking to the CM at the kiosk. She said they are adding DVC to the Grand Californian. It is very similar to WL. It sounded like a done deal.
The DVC CM's stay for 2 weeks in DL and they the bring out a new group. They gave out the DVC pins with PLuto.

Hmmm....or maybe a brand new resort will be built that is part DVC/part regualr hotel rooms. This could be in the Eagle Pines area or somewhere else around Bay Lake. Does anyone know how much property WDW has on the North side of Bay Lake?
I haven't voted yet as I don't really have a clue. Interesting about DL DVC being a done deal though. :listen:

I voted for Eagle Pines because I think that's the site that gives DVC the greatest opportunity to sell a lot of points, even though the cost of construction would also be higher than a remodel or small add-on. They can build a big resort and sell it as "buy here, stay wherever you'd like". I also believe that if they can swing one in California, it'll happen.
My personal preference would be at the Contemporary, and I would buy an add-on there in a second. I've never been to AKL (not even to eat, but maybe someday!), so I couldn't comment. The Poly would be great, but I'm not holding my breath. I'd actually love to see some villas at the Yacht Club, but I'm not holding my breath on that one either!

ahhhhh! Come on you can still vote! I don't think anyone really have a clue either just a bunch of CM rumours that get repeated and repeated until we believe them!!! I think polls are great fun!
I heard from a CM that Villas at Cinderella's Castle (VCC) is a done deal. I also heard that Universal is merging with Disney/DVC and will create Villas at Hard Rock Cafe (VHR). Conversely, Disney will update some attractions by incorporating some Universal characters - Snow White vs. Hulk for example.

I think polls are fun too and I really like yours. :sunny: I'll enjoy everyone's responses as it is such a fun thing to speculate about. :cool1:
It is just that I can't decide how to vote. :confused3 Now I can say that I don't think there will be one at the Polynesian or GF. Texas doesn't seem likely to me either unless there is going to be a park built there as well and if so that would take years.
DL, HI, Eagle Pines Resort and Vacation Club all seem more likely to me. CR really intrigues me and there do seem to be so many rumors about it but on the other hand, it seems unlikely that Disney Resorts would give up such valuable property....but maybe that isn't how it works anyway.
It is hard for me to envision where a DVC property could be built at AKL that could share the amenities of the resort while providing views of the savannas. It is already such a huge resort.

Not sure if this was mentioned here before, but somewhat interesting given the topic of this thread...
Disney area to add time share
The 14-story, 253-unit WorldMark will be a third for Anaheim.
By SARAH TULLY
The Orange County Register
ANAHEIM – Disneyland Resort visitors will have the option of staying at the area's largest time-share resort - featuring multibedroom condominiums and a rooftop deck for fireworks viewing - starting in 2008.
Trendwest Resorts Inc. is planning to start construction in January on the 14-story, 253-unit WorldMark Anaheim, the third time-share complex in Anaheim. It will be one of the city's tallest buildings.
The Redmond, Wash.-based company, which owns 58 resorts, decided to build in Anaheim because of survey requests from existing owners and the central location in Southern California.
Plus, condos are attractive for families. They come equipped with washers, dryers, kitchens and entertainment centers.
"For a lot people, that's a much more preferable vacation than your standard motel room," said Mark Lukens, real-estate vice president for Cendant Timeshare Resort Group, including Trendwest.
Time share is a vacation property where an owner can buy use of a condominium for a week or two a year, for example.
The popularity of time shares is growing, with 3.87 million owners as of January, up about 14 percent from the year before, according to American Resort Development Association.
In March, the Planning Commission approved the time-share complex, adding to the two already in the resort area. Cendant also owns Dolphin's Cove, with 136 condos. Peacock Suites offers 139 suites, a combination of hotel rooms and time shares.
Jeff Pank, who manages the Peacock Suites, said his occupancy rates are 12 percent to 15 percent ahead of other hotels.
Trendwest sells "points" that owners can use like cash to buy time in time shares, but the company does not sell individual locations.
Owners can spend their entire vacations in one place or break up their time between different locales. The amount of points depends on demand, season and unit size. For example, a family might want to spend three days at Disneyland, then use the rest of its points in Las Vegas.
On average, an owner can pay $16,000 for the basic time-share plan - a weeklong stay in a hotel that can be used every year for a lifetime, then be passed on to heirs. Owners must pay annual maintenance fees, about $500 a year.
WorldMark is to be built at Katella Avenue and Zeyn Street, down the street from Peacock Suites. It would be almost double the size of the Peacock Suites and offer more amenities. It will sit next to GardenWalk, an outdoor mall and hotel complex that will start construction next year.
The resort features private balconies, as well as outdoor and children's pools, an exercise facility, game room and complimentary, five-level garage. Twelve Presidential Suites will be available. The deck will include cabanas and three spas and seating.
The highest point of WorldMark will be 168 feet tall - just 10 feet shorter than the area's tallest building, the Anaheim Marriott.
Jerry O'Connell, chairman of the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau and hotel co-owner, said a large time share could fit in the resort area.
"Obviously, the Disneyland Resort is one of top tourist attractions in the world," O'Connell said. "If you think, you can go to the park a couple of days and the beach for a couple of days. I think it makes sense in that scheme."

Future West Coast (Oregon) DVC member here. We've started saving up with the goal of buying next year. We were planning on buying SSR, but would probably spend a lot of points at DL. If the rumour of a DL resort is true, I'd almost like to wait for that, since I think it would be VERY popular and having the 11 month reservation window at our home resort in DL would work out so much better for our family.
Any more insight into future DVC resorts at GC, or elsewhere ?
We are booked for the GC for Dec 4 - 10th this year.

I voted Eagle Pines because it has been announced previously. I also think that another hotel type DVC might be considered because of the popularity of BCV/BWV.
Animal Kingdom came to mind only because it appears to have land available for building. I would imagine that a separate savannah would have to be constructed for the DVC side. I would think that this would be a very popular option and great selling point. I know I would be interested in staying at a DVC at the Animal Kingsdom Lodge.

This is a tough one. I would bet that the only prime piece of real estate Disney would even consider on the monorail loop would be one of the garden wings at CR (since they are falling apart as they are and there is no view to speak of there) The other places are just too popular for cash paying guests, why would they build DVC at the GF or Poly? If people are plopping down money to buy at saratoga, why would disney sell/lease/whatever their best locations to build DVC? It would make no sense to me.
Eagles Pines maybe?

However, I do not think the CR is rumor is true. They would be building those building higher and would most likely demo them and rebuild. I think they are just undergoing a rehab. Also, if they were renovating now for DVC, wouldn't they be announcing it to sell to exsisting members?

I think given teh expansion potential of SSR there will not need to be any new DVC resorts.
Well, it may be far fetched, but I would like to see one of the cruise ships made partially DVC so that the point structures for cruises were much better.
Beyond that an Animal Kindom Villas sounds great.
Disneyland should certainly have a DVC resort, despite past history.

This has been fun. So far 177 people have voted. The results might be slightly skewed higher due to the fact that I forgot to put a option for those that thought no DVC resort is going to be announced in the next 2-3 years, before SSR is sold out. But none the less, close to half think that the CR DVC is alive and well and going to happen soon! While the DL DVC gets the next highest vote, with 1/3 of voters believing it was soon to be announced. The suprise for me was AKL. Early on it got very high scores, then leveled out to appox. the same as Eagle Pines (20% and 18% respectively). DVC AKL was such a new thought to me I was very suprised.
Another suprise is that the King of Polls, Mr. Poll himself, Greenban didn't vote in this one!! ;)

I voted for Eagle Pines in an attempt to follow instructions and vote for what would happen rather than what I would like. But I find it not at all interesting and I hope they don't build it.
My favorite would be VPR (Polynesian) but I don't think it's going to happen. The only chance would be a small VWL-style extension build to the west of the current resort, assuming that land is buildable, and even to do that they would have to tear down the Luau Cove (no loss there!) and perhaps one of the existing longhouses.
Actually what I would like is to tear down the north garden wing at the Contemporary and build VPR there! But that is truly fantasy.

Guide told us that Disneyland is a go, along with the Contemporary (both garden wings will be torn down). Eagle Pines is a "no go", and there will be another WDW property in the future. (I believe he mentioned an "Italian Theme") He also said that both the Contemporary and Polynesian are "sinking", but that a new construction process should make DVC Contemporary a go. Speculation or facts? Who knows?

I voted for AKL. They have the room, the resources and the desire from the general public to build off of AKL. It would be very easy to accomplish.
I doubt GF will go DVC. There is no need and no great amount of space. Also, why, if you can get $$$$ for the room, instead of points.
Contemporary - maybe. It would be great but we'll see.
Eagles Pines - what can this offer that has not already been?
