We're staying at the all star movies and I was thinking of packing a collapsible cooler to store drinks in or is it better to just buy the refillable mug. I suppose what I really want to be able to do is bring a really cold bottle of water with me to the parks each morning. If I was at home I'd freeze the bottle then bring it, not sure how I can get away with that in a hotel room.

What do you do?

We always take a collapsable cooler with us on vacation. It makes it handy to take drinks to the pool, etc. You can find them usually in sporting goods and camping section of stores such as Target.

I got a six pack and twelve pack collapsable at Target. Look in the Sporting goods section. Ours has a whole aisle of just coolers. They were reasonable in price as well.

We found a great one at BJ's for $14.99. It kept ice in it for over 24 hours and worked great.

Unless, you can get back to your room alot to change the ice; it's not that cool and it causes wetness underneath it from leaking water. Now, I will admit I had a bigger one but it's not bigger than a normal cooler. It's messy to deal with, too. You have to unload it to drain the water, etc. The strap broke on us.

We bought a good one and we are careful people but this is a terrible substitute for a real cooler.

I do like the small, portable ones that hold a couple of water bottles but not the larger ones.

we are also thinking of buying a soft sided or collapsable cooler for our October trip to use in place of getting a fridge. i've heard it could get messy and leaky... so I plan on putting ice into big ziploc bags to prevent leaks.

has anyone else done this and was this idea successful?

I got a great one this summer at Costco. It has a zippered plastic lining inside and never leaks. It can hold 24 cans and is just perfect. It has a removable handle and wheels that you can use nicely as well. It was 24.99, but I got it with a coupon for 17.99.

I bought one at Wal-Mart for my trip in June. It didn't leak at all. It was pretty big and rolled up too. I think it was $10.00.

I have the cooler from Costco and it is fantastic. I'm have even washed it in the washer(take out the liner first). The inner liner seems to keep the outside from "sweating" too much.

we also use zip lock freezer bags, fill with ice and load up drinks and put in back pack or bag, as the drinks go, we dont have to lug the cooler around. has worked great for us.
