Can't wait! charlie and the chocolate factory has always been one of my favourite books, I heard that Johnny Depp :cloud9: is going to play Wonka as a darker character than in the old film (gene wilder???) which is good as thats how Roald Dahl meant him to be, he wasn't a nice man at all and didn't like children (apparently) so Depps portrayal should be good. Saw the trailer at the weekend when we saw Madagascar, looks great

I think it looks a bit scary.
Johnny Depp is gorgeous but not sure about that hair do!
And the Oompa Loompa's - they are really freaky!
Can't wait to see it though.
And Madagascar - looks fab!!

Madagascar was great, not up to the standard of Shrek or The Incredibles, but good nonetheless, my son cried his eyes out at the bit where Alex the lion has to make a decision as to whether to stay best friends with the zebra or to let his natural urges overcome him and eat him! :sad1:

Nor do I Kaylee, but I must admit to being totally unmoved by it ( this from the girl who cries her eyes out at The Fox and The Hounds) but Cally found it too much!

I really want to see this film! My DDs love the original film (unfortunately for me, this means it is on in our house quite often).
I am also looking forward to the darker side of Mr Wonka being brought out by Depp & of course Tim Burton.
I do agree that noone could find him attractive with that hairstyle though ;)

It's not the hairstyle that worries me - it's the teeth. Makes him look like David Walliams character of the secretary to the Barbara Cartland like author in Little Britain!

JJ ---- YES!
I thought I was the only one who thought that and I mentioned it to my daughter because no where had I read anything to that effect.
She proceeded to tell me that in an interview with Johnny Depp, he did say that he modeled a lot of his behavior on Michael Jackson's! So it looks like you were spot on!
DH and I went to see it this past Sunday ---- it's brilliant - LOL!!!!
Can hardly wait to hear what y'all think of it :)

I noticed in Safeways last night (well its Morrisons now, but will always be Safeways to me) that they were selling Wonka chocolate bars with 5 trips to the US to be won if you find a golden wrapper.

We saw this last week in Fort Myers Beach (just love being able to name-drop like that! ;) ) and thought it was great! I really like Johnny Depp, so I was never going to be disappointed whatever the film was like ;) I certainly preferred it to the one with Gene Wilder.
Yes, JJ - DH and I both thought JD was very much like Michael Jackson, but DD's disagreed (they'd heard he'd said he'd modelled himself on Marilyn Manson  )

Saw the movie last week and was very disappointed by it.......the original was much better, in my opinion. The kids didn't much care for it either. They much preferred "Fantastic Four". Johnny Depp was very strange in the role of Willie Wonka...........he did remind me of Michael Jackson too.

we saw it last week in Orlando (at the AMC theatres in Downtown Disney).
Of the 4 of us, my husband, 18 year old son and 20 year old daughter LOVED it....
on the other hand, I hated it....but that was to be expected....i don't like anything surreal.....(even with Johnny Depp, whom i adore, i hated it)...
but based on my family, 75% of the viewing audience will love it...

Seen it today with the kids. All loved it. Depp was brilliant to me, not outrageous like Wilder in the role. He was very subtle in the role and brought across an insecure but loveable quality thet many actors wouldnt score with. Reasons why were told very well too.
There are some very clever humour moments and some clever movie take ups- I wont mention any spoilers.
This story WAS my childhood, i had the book read to me before i could read then read it myself many times. I was impressed with the Tim Burton stamp it had inked all over it.
Loved every minute of it and i still have a smile on my face 10 hours later.

DD and I went to see it yesterday and loved it :goodvibes
On the way home from the cinema I heard a radio interview with Johnny Depp where he was asked if he thought his character resembled Michael Jacksons'.
He basically said 'heck no' that wasn't the intention but, if that's what you want to think.......

Saw it this afternoon with DD(11 year old JD fan) and thought it was really good, much funnier than I was expecting. A bit strange to hear David Kelly without his Irish accent though. I think we might go and see this again.

We saw it at the IMAX in Glasgow......WOW!!! It was superb.........loved Johnny Depp. Though it was so much better than the original.....no more 'Cheer Up Charlie...'.....
And seemed to be more in line with the actual book if I remember......(not read it in a loooong time!!) ;)

Really loved this film. DD has seen it three times now. Can't wait to see the Corpse Bride and the other two Pirates of the Carribean.
Charlie and the chocolate factory would make a great theme park rides says DD and I agree with her.
A must see film IMHO.

Saw this last night...WOW!!!
I loved it!
My absolute fave lines in the whole film are.....
when the lift crashes through their roof near the end and Grandma Georgina says 'I think someone's at the door' :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
(I laughed for about 5 mins at that comment!!)
and
when Willy Wonka says 'everything in the room is edible' and someone says 'what about the people' and he replied that 'some people call that canniblism!!'.
Soooooo funny.
And Johnny Depps face when the Oompa Loompa are singing and dancing, is soooo funny when he's smiling and dancing along with them!!!
Brilliant film.
I don't think I can wait until it comes out on DVD to see it again.

Very odd title, can remember thinking when disney brought out 'honey, I shrunk the kids' that they'd probably do a sequel called 'thats ok we'll get a refund'

Saw this film last week - thought it was great but I don't know about Johnny (who I think is lovely)!
I much prefer him in Pirates or Chocolat - he is fine in both of those!!! :teeth:
I saw this a few weeks ago and I much prefer it to the other film.
Roald Dahl was really unhappy with the first adaptation - I mean, they made Charlie American in it!
Tim Burton's movie seems to have stayed much more true to the book (although I was not impressed with English Charlie finding a $1 bill - he finds a 50p piece in the book!), apart from Willy Wonka's background and the ending (but if they'd given it the ending from the book then TB may have felt compelled to do CATGGE, which is not as popular as CATCF).
Can't wait for Corpse Bride! (I've been looking forward to this since I heard about it earlier this year)
Also really looking forward to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe!!
And Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit!!!
And Pixar has Cars coming out next year..!
