My dd is leaving for 2 weeks of camp about 7 hours away from home and so we decided we'd go out to dinner tonight and have a nice relaxing dinner. So I chose Ruby Tuesday so I could have salad and sirloin tips. So here's what I ran into...

I decided to go ahead and order a full size order so I could take some home to have for lunch tomorrow since I'm not going to get to eat until after 7 after I work out - which means I needed something substantive to last me longer. So when I placed my order I asked for no mushrooms (he asked if I wanted some and I so did but I knew the sauteed mushrooms would be in butter) and I asked for the tips to not be placed on top of the mashed potatoes. I then asked for a to go container with my meal (I learned this many of the times I was in Weight Watchers so that you aren't forcing yourself to eat the whole meal - and I was proud of myself for actually doing it). So our food comes and he asked me if we were in a hurry because I wanted the to go container. It actually shocked me that he asked, basically, why I wanted one. So explained to him that I didn't want to eat it all tonight and wanted to make sure I had some for lunch tomorrow (didn't want to go into the whole - I'm losing weight thing). But I was just sort of floored that he asked me that - like he was offended or something. And so I divided up my tips (which were very good by the way and they put the gravy on the side so I wasn't forced to eat the gravy) and I also ate only about 1/3 of my mashed potatoes and left the rest for lunch (which ended up only being 1/2 a cup left).

So now I have some good food for lunch but has anyone else ever experienced this from wait staff? Like they are totally floored that you aren't going to eat all of their food at one sitting???

I haven't experienced this, but I am thinking that the waiter was just surprised that you needed the to go container right away. He is probably used to people not eating everything, but they pack it away at the end of their meal. I am sure that it was more a situation of him wondering if he needed to really be on top of his toes and get you served quickly if you were in a hurry than shock because you weren't eating everything in one sitting.

We split our food alot and take home the leftovers, but we pack it after the meal. I think most restaurants are used to this now and most waiters will ask if you want to take the leftovers home.

I am sorry that you felt offended by this, but I am sure that it was not intended that way. Great job at taking 1/2 your meal home. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo
