Just curious if anyone tell me when WDW started using the Nextel DirectConnect phones instead of Radios? The Transportation side still uses radios correct?
im curious since it was 3 years since my last Disney vacation, and i recently got HAM licensed so i was hoping to do some monitoring.
WDW started using Nextel last September.
Transportation still uses radio I beleive, as it's built into the buses. I rarely see them with Nextels. Some departments still use the radios for whatever reason.

Interesting, I noticed the newest busses (squareish fronts, round headlights, large amounts of standing room) had what looked to be car kits for nextel phones.
It makes sense in a way, im sure in the long run the Nextel phones are cheaper to operate and give wdw better control over there grouping.
As an engineering student stuff like this and how parks operate really interests me :D

Since Disney switched to Nextel the service is a million times better there. I barely could get a signal there two years ago. It was probally cheaper to swithc to NExtel because I'm sure they had to pay FCC fees for whateve frequency they were using.
Rumor has it that the Disney Transportation will start using the Nextels on Aug 1st, The Radios are now being installed in the Buses, Now all Disney as to do is to train every bus driver on how to use the radios
