My girl scout troop is in charge of the theme and the activities for our fall camporee. We've chosen a retro theme, and now we're looking for ideas for snacks that were popular in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Any ideas :flower: ?

How about Nuts & Bolts? Seems to me that was very popular!
Ummm, I'll keep thinking!

I know this is a snack of today too, but how about Chex mix. Didn't everyone's mom make this when we were kids?
I was going to suggest chex mix too. BTW, I was born in the early 60's.
Do you recall wacky cakes? My sisters and I loved making there: wacky cake (http://starchefs.com/chocolate_lovers/1999/html/september/recipe_05.shtml)
I distinctly remember jell-o 123, which you mixed up one mix, and then as it cooled in the fridge, it layered into three different layers. Since jell-o no longer makes this, someone came up with a pretty close recipe: jell-o 123 (http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/36/1_2_3_Jello46269.shtml)
I will also offer s'mores - I loved s'mores when I was in girl scouts- and they are are still a favorite of mine.
Some of the candy we had once in a while was sugar babies, which I see every once in a while now.
The cookies that we liked were snickerdoodles, and of course tollhouse chocolate chip cookies.
Have fun!

How about fondue?
Also from the 70's I remember my mom making these little baked cheeseballs with olives in the middle, and also the sausage balls make with pork sausage, bisquick and cheese. Maybe it was an Oklahoma thing, but my friends and I joke about our moms making those all of the time when we were kids.

Do you remember making rock candy? Leaving the string hanging over the jar as the sugar crytalized? Yum.

Razzles, AStro Pop, Boston Baked Beans, Moon Pies, Bazooka gum, Mary Janes, Fun Dip, Pez, Bottle Caps, Candy Buttons, Neccos, Root Beer Barrell, Candy Necklace, Jawbreakers, Space Food, Saf T Pop, Wonka Bar, Candy Lipstick, Sixlets,Atomic Fireball. Hope you can use some of those ideas! :)
They definitely still make bottle caps. They are one of my favorite non-chocolate candies. For my birthday last month - my DD got me 4 boxes of them - from Wal-Mart.

You should be able to find many of the candies mentioned at this website...

They even have them listed by decade.
I am not associated with them in any way other than having ordered of their decade assts for someone once.
Hope this helps,
Carol

Jiffypop was a big hit when I did it with the cubscouts. They never saw it before.
