Wow, Jr. Prep at 8, that's impressive! We did All Stars for 3 years, my girls decided to quit when our gym changed hands. I have to say I don't miss it much, we have made 3 trips to WDW since the quit a year ago and have another one booked in 12 days! You'll have a blast, but be prepared, it's really intense at those Nationals. I had a friend there, she said they only had a few hours in the parks each day because of competitions.

We just found out this week that youngest dd's team may be going. She is in the mini division but they are actually going to be competing this year. Usually they just perform and do not compete. The older girls from our group are definately going. When will they announce the competition pkg info? We have annual passes, do you have to buy their pkg tickets? Which hotels do they use, is it always the Allstars and CBR?

I am not really sure which competition. This is all new to me. My older dd was supposed to be on the Jr. Prep team, but decided she would rather do gymnastics instead. Just my youngest dd is doing cheer. I know the dates are for March 10th to the 13th. I think our coach will be giving us more info this week. I don't know if they will be doing the pkg deal or not. I have been busy planning our Dec trip and now I get look forward to going in March!!!! I know that the competition is important, but not matter how good or bad the squads do, they are at WDW!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Gordon!!
Are you doing the one at the Swan and dolphin?? It is March 3,4. You guys are probably doing American Open March 24th and 26th.
It would be great to meet you but I would be very nervous if our kids had to compete against the Stingrays!! :)

WANNABE@WDW...My daughter is cheering for the first time in WDW in March (same dates) We are staying at the ALLStar (?)...Our package pricce is about $1282.00 (approx) for my daughter and I. This includes coaches fee ($90.00 does eveyone pay this??) airfare, 4 day park hoppers, room, 2 meal vouchers (each I think), transportaion to and from Disney (Magical Express I assume) and transportation to and from the competitions. Personally I tink it's a lot but what can I do...all the kids are being booked through the same travel agent. I am used to planning these trips myself and can't stand not haveing control over my Disney reservation!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

This will be our teams' first time in several years to go to Orlando. I have checked Varsity's site and the pkg info isn't posted yet. Are ya'll using the "official" travel agency for Varsity or a local travel agency? It seems like it would be cheaper just to go through Disney's group reservations. This trip will be very different for me. I am used to planning everything and getting the biggest bang for my buck, I don't see that happening on this trip. Do some teams stay offsite?

dennisnlisab96
07-10-2005, 10:44 PM
Wannabe@WDW...from what I understand our package is being booked through UCA...we are getting a group discount because we are booking more than 30 rooms.

I agree about getting the most bang for the buck...this doesn't seem to be it!!!! I usually book our trip and change it a couple of times before we go. We usually go once a year. Even though this trip might cost a little more I am looking forward to the trip with my daughter. We are arriving the day after her 9th birthday...we are going to have fun!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, how much are ya'll paying for airfare? We will most likely be flying out of New Orleans on SW, but their schedules won't be released for quite a while. :cheer2:

Just wanted to say good luck to all the girls competing at WDW. We are competing in Jacksonville in March but we wish we were going to WDW. I said something to our cheer director last week about taking us to WDW next season. DD7 is a pee wee for the 2nd year but is also doing the mini's this year, she would love to compete there. Guess we'll just have to hope for next year.

Tell all your girls we said good luck.

Which competition Gordon??? Swan and Dolphin?? That would be cool!!
Although tell me the stingray (youth/junior prep 6th grade and under)compete in intermediate not novice!!! :)
Just went and checked out the stingray website and the good thing is both your junior prep and youth are large teams (over 20) and our youth is 20 so we would not compete against each other since we would be in "small" and you all would be in "large". I would love to watch them preform and any of you that will be at competitions with the stingrays GO WATCH!! They are really great! :cheer2:

This is off topic but seems like a great place for me to get some advise! DD5 did a cheer camp at our dance studio this summer. She just LOVED it. Now she wants to not dance but cheer. Is this something I want to consider? HOw expensive is it, and where do I even start looking for a team? She is only 5 but will be 6 in NOv. I'll take all advise, tell it like it is please! :cheer2:

We (2 dd's and I) will be staying for 3 nights at the Poly and then we will be moving to a 1br at BWV (we are renting pts again) There are other families in our squad that will be making a week of it like us. Some will be staying at the BW. Everyone else is waiting on Varsity to release the package info. Our first competition is towards the end of Nov. Both of my dd's teams are still working on their routines. I think my younger dd's team will be in the small group (if they don't have any one else join) and my older dd's team, I think has 21 girls (I'll have to check). I'm not sure which level each squad will compete at. This is all still really new to me. :cheer2: :cheer2:

First off Competitive cheerleading is very expensive but no more expensive then dance. This year we have these fees 350 for uniform (full uniform spring floor shoes midriff) Then we need new practice uniforms. our competition fees are 650 (we are lucky we live in Florida or they would be higher to travel)then there are hotels then there is the monthly gym fees.

But it truely is worth it if you get in with a great team and when I say great team I mean a team with allot of positive attitude.
The best way to find a team for her is to ask around and get thoughts from parents whos children are cheering not from the coaches

Youll get it real quick!! Well if they dont change the guidelines again!! Starting in Aug 2006 the divisions (this is for all-star teams) will go by age not grade. As of now it is grade and age. For example 2nd grade and under is mini (or mini prep) 4th grade and under is pee-wee (or mini) 6th grade and under is youth (or Junior prep) and then the divisions go novice, intermediate, advance ,Elite ......... What those divisions do is decide what your team can preform as far a level of difficulty for example in a novice division you can not do back tucks but you can do back handsprings. there is going to be a division this year for non tumblers.
And as far as small and large a small team is 20 members and under and a large is 21-35 memebers some competitions will even have a medium if there is that many teams in a division to keep it fair.
Hope this explained things a bit and not confuse even more!!!! :sunny:

It's not that big of a deal to us anymore actually, as we live local and have AP's, so cheerleaders in the parks get too much, we'll leave and come back another day. The only park we ever really had a problem in was MGM back when they did the competitions there.

It was more a resort thing, any large group staying at a resort is just obnoxious to other guests. Cheerleaders just seem to be the worst of it, because they practice all day and night. We were at Sports one year, and they practiced in the courtyard outside our door from about 6:00am until close to midnight every day. They would be on teh buses cheering, in teh foodcourt cheering, it was obnoxious. I'm glad they have a healthy outlet for their energy, but not all of us give two hoots about teh Spartan's, or whoever their team of choice is. We also had problems with line cutting and such.

We will be there, me and dd11, dd14, both senior coed level four. They also did stunt group last two years, not sure about this year. This year they are attending with a new team as we have moved out of state.

This will be our FOURTH year for UCA nationals so any generic questions I might be able to help with. You usually start to get alot more info after you attend a regional qualifying competition in the fall.

We have been at Allstar Music twice and All Star Movies once. We never find out which allstar we are confirmed at until around February. Some of the squads do stay offsite to save money and some pay more to stay at caribbean beach. The girls from our squads are all required to go on the package (includes their park hopper, special party at MGM on Sunday night, transportation from airport, etc), alot of parents book their rooms separately as it winds up costing ALOT less. I always room with my girls.

All the squads compete twice, once in MGM at the Indian Jones stage, and once in the Milk House at Wide World of Sports.

Our coach is now also talking about attending Americheer nationals which I think are later in March or April at WDW.

MGM is very crowded with cheerleaders those four days, as they are all competing at least once at Indiana Jones.

To all Cheer Moms and Dads (and Siblings, etc.) Are there any competitions in February? We were in WDW in Feb 05 and even traveled down with 2 squads on the plane and we were wondering if they will be there again this year. We will be there Feb 11- 18 and my DD is just "dying" to see the cheerleaders again.

As to ducklite's post....I found the cheerleaders to be wonderful. They were certainly excited during their practices but I saw no problem with them in the parks (a little crowded at MGM the day of competition) and am looking forward to seeing them again this year.

We feared our flight from NY to MCO was going to be noisy and such but was pleasently surprised. Cheerleaders are well disciplined and it showed in their behavior on and off the plane.

Good luck to all of those who are competing. If my DD keeps up with it they way she is right now I should be there in a few years.

We have a large group of cheerleaders, coaches, staff, parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. that we usually travel together and occupy the majority of the hotel at our competitions in Dallas, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Chattanooga, Chicago, Tampa, Orlando, etc....etc...

Rumor has it, that we will have 2 choices in all three levels of resorts. I'll let you know when I do. :confused3

Best wishes for all Squads.

I have also included the web site for the package info.

I think having a DIS parent get together for cheer parents is a wonderful suggestion. Me, DH, DD 18 and DD 12 will be arriving on 3/10 and leaving on 3/16. My daughters compete for a gym out of Carrollton Texas, it will be my oldest DD 4th time to compete at UCA and my youngest DD 2nd time to compete. Our gym does not take all of our teams, because of cost, we take travel teams(or we did it this way for the first time last year, we did take all the older teams 3 years ago). After everyone pays thier entry fees they put together teams by age and skill. Last year we just had one team. If was a lot of fun and the team did well to have practiced for 2 weeks. (we took parts from several teams routinues, so the girls were familar with alot of what they had to learn). UCA is my favorite competetion, what can I say I love any chance to go to WDW. I have to say Cheersport in Atlanta runs a close second.

I think for the families arriving the week before the competition the crowds will be noticibly less than the week after the competition. The week after the competition seems to be when alot of spring breaks start. Not too many spring breaks the first week. I don't care which week I get to go as long as I have time at WDW.

I just have to say how impressed I am with the Stringrays. I saw them last year in Atlanta and Dallas and each team was simply amazing. I am guessing they will be even better this year. Our gym is doing Cheersport this year but not NCA, but my DD's and I plan to go to NCA on Sunday to watch all the Senior teams compete.

We have annual passes and have run in to the dilemma of what to do about packages. I have to buy the packages for my daughters so they can ride the event buses with the teams. I e-mailed UCA and asked if I could just buy bus passes. I then book another room for my husband and I. Last year I sold the park hopper passes to a friend who didn't want to buy the package for her entire family. I gave her a good deal on the park hoppers and I wasn't out as much money.

Sorry this post seems to ramble from paragraph to paragraph. I am running reports at work as I type. :flower:

We are also AP holders. I am still waiting to see if both dd's get to go. If my dd's don't make it we will be there to cheer for our girls that do. Ya'll are right about the difference from the first week of March to the second. There seems to be a large amount of springbreakers there for the second week. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thanks so much for your kind words. Our Gym has been very fortunate to have great success and most importantly good sportsmanship and fairplay with all of our 14 teams.

Next weekend is a comp that our team hosts so my kids won't compete but they will do an exibition!!!!

We actually don't have another competition until Feb 4 & 5 and that is a national comp in Providence, RI

Good luck next weekend...let us know how you did. :cheer2: :cheer2:

My daughter joined Northeast Allstars in Melrose, MA. I'm pretty sure that most of their teams haven't competed yet. I think it's because alot of their girls cheer for Pop Warner. My daughter just finished regionals with Pop Warner. They came in 5th out of 17 teams, they needed to place in the top two to be invited to perform at Disney this week. So close. My DD is new to All Stars, she's done PW for four years, I hope she likes All Stars. :goodvibes

Every competition company calls each division a different name. Our pee-wees are 4th grade and under level 2. Our Youth is 6th grade and under.
At this competition the Pee-wee's were called Mini's level 2. And our Youth was called Junior prep level 2.
Our Mini's have not competed yet they are 2nd grade and under level 1.

Congrats to your kids at regionals!!!

Hi I was just reading all of your info about your dd's cheering in Disney and I just wanted to share all of my DD's good fortune. When my DD was a Junior Midget in pop warner in 1998 our team took 1st in states and regionals and went to disney to cheer at nationals. Let me tell you it was fabulous. Even though we were disqualified because one of our girls stepped on a pom pom it did not matter. Just being there with all of those fabulous other teams from around the country was so exciting. Then My DD cheered on an allstar team and traveled the country. Last year she was a senior in high school and head captain of her team and her team qualified for nationals in disney. Wow they were soooo excited.. They did ok and placed somewhere in the middle but just the experience was something she will never forget. Now she is a freshman in college and she is cheering for her college team. The girls are ranked 4th in the country for an all girl cheer squad and once again she will be competing in Jan at nationals in Disney. My DD has had a cheer career that she will never forget and the best part of course for us has been the fact that disney has been such a huge part of her experience. So enjoy every minute with your girls because the experience is soooo wonderful. Good luck to everyone competing!!!! :cheer2:

Any news on a DIS cheer meet during the UCA nationals? My daughters will not be competing, we were bringing a travel team but not enough people signed up, but we had already had our hearts set on Disney at spring break, so we will be there 3/12/06 thru 03/18/06.

To all the moms with first year cheerleaders. You will have so many great memories of your daughter's cheer years. The traveling with the cheer teams and the competitions have made me closer to my daughters and we have hundreds of pictures to document the memories and the fun. My oldest DD is a senior this year and it is her 7th year as an all star. She is hoping to continue her cheer career next year at college. My youngest DD is a sixth grader and this is her 5th year to compete. She is on a novice team this year and hopes to be on a intermediate team next year.

I just got back from Cheersport Nationals...your right tnkrbell, it was HUGE. The competition was very intense, but fun, and the talent was amazing.

WDW LifeLong Fan, are you sure that your gym is coming to UCA Nationals the 2nd weekend in March? I talked to some parents from the Stingrays today, and they said ya'll were going to The American Championships Nationals the last weekend in March? I really hope they were wrong, but let us know!

Hey DisneyElite!! What team are you with?? How did you do in Georgia?! I cant believe what a big event it was!! what division where you in??

I have to say I at first I thought Stingrays must be going to American open but that is the end of march not the begining!!
I lOVE that company that runs the American open!! Very well run!! I have never been to a UCA event so I can not compare the two.
I just know that the first time I had the pleasure of watching the Stingrays it was at the American open but it was held in Tampa. What talented teams~!!~

Hi I just wanted to share again. First of all I love reading about cheerleading on the disboards. My DD has been cheering for 11 years. She competed in at college UCA nationals in Jan. They came in 4th. They were excited but the real good news was that this weekend my DD tried out to be on UCA Staff and she made it!! She is sooo excited. She has had a great time as a cheerleader and now she will work the camps and competitions and do what she really loves. It was a dream come true. You go girls! Good luck to all! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I was event staff (too young to be a judge, I'm a college student...maybe someday!) I was a runner for the points deduction judges that are right next to the mat in Arenas E and F...so I got to see a lot of the routines up close! Very exciting!

I was also there supporting my sisters squad (and my former gym) Memphis Elite, from Memphis, TN. They had teams in Large Youth Advanced, Large Junior Advanced and Small Senior Excel. Overall, they did very well, but no wins. The competition is fierce at Cheersport! They will be bringing all 6 of their teams to UCA Nationals the 2nd weekend in March.

Someone asked where I'm from in Alabama...I go to Auburn University in Auburn, AL...but I'm from Memphis, TN.

Can't wait to see everyone's teams in Florida!

I love the American Championships also...UCA has a similar feel to it, at least in my opinion. Both have very fun and challenging nationals. They moved the Open to Orlando this year...but I'm not sure why?

I saw 5 of the Stingrays teams this weekend and they were all phenomenal.

So, who has done this for the UCA ntls March 10-12??

Our organization has and I wanted to add the disney dining package on. But so far they don't have the info from UCA for rooms yet , no ressie no/info for myself and I don't know if they'll even do it

I heard uca sells food vouchers..that's not what I want.
Also, this is my daughter's first time down...do we not check in at the resort counter? Sounded like at practice that our organ. mgr will have room keys and such? Sounds odd...

War Eagle, Polkadotminnie! I saw three of the Tumblebeez teams at UCA Nationals last year...Small Youth Level 3 (Now Jr. Prep) and Large Pee Wee's 2 and 3 (now Mini). I always enjoy watching your gym compete, they always have fun, themed music and great stunts.

KIMZKIDZ, check-in with an all-star team at nationals is a lot different then when on vacation. UCA has it set up so that all of the teams have to check-in at the All-Stars and go through "registration" type procedures, even if your not staying on property. Room keys and check-in for your hotel are run through your organization...it would take too long to have each person go up to the counter. You'll find that it actually runs quicker and smoother to have UCA and your gym owner/coaches take care of check-in.

Good luck in WDW!

Tumblebeez colors are yellow and black. I have 2 DD's on the squad. My middle DD is on the front row in the dance. She is the one left of center. My oldest DD is the tall girl doing the front roll at the beginning. I also have one on tiny cheer. I got lucky because tiny cheer performs at 3:30 at MGM just 30 minutes after Mini level 1. I was so glad they weren't at different places at the same time. :scared:
It is really surprising that we are all competing in the same level since there are only 5 squads. I was shocked at the number of teams in levels 2 and 3. This is our first year to cheer, but we are Disney regulars. We usually go 2-3 times a year. We will be checking into ASSP Thursday around 4 or 5. I hope everyone does well and has a blast! SOOOOOO??????? How did it go guys??!

My daughter's squad got 10th out of 24 squads. We were very excited and happy for them. The squad has only been in existence for 1 year. (brand new all star gymn in Wisconsin) So it was great to be in the top 10 especially with so many other squads in their division. The moment was ruined though because somehow between the judges table and the awards things got mixed up and they announced our squad as getting 16. They messed up most all of the awards between 6th and 24th. They finally straighted things out and we got the right trophy but the girls missed out on the thrill of being announced as 10th place.

No... they moved from 12th to 11th...not as big of a jump as you had but the kids were happy. They had one of their girls in the hospital after the first day. She got kicked in the head during the first pyramid and had NO memory of the the routine and was not making sense after they were done. She is OKAY and was cleared to compete on Sunday.

Lisa 11 out of 24 is great also!!! I cant imagine going against 24 teams!! 7 teams are stressful enough!! :)

We are finally back! We had a great time.

Tumblebeez -My 2 DD's on Mini level I - 3rd place.

My DD on tiny cheer won 1st- National Champions!!! She was the little one singing "We are the Champions... by Queen" at our table in Ohana Sunday night. I didn't even know that she knew that song.
She is only three and I was more proud of her for competing with a temp of 101.7 (she had an ear and sinus infection) than even winning.
She is scheduled for her second set of ear tubes next Monday.

The Magic Kingdom was a mad house on Monday. Other than that, the parks were not too crowded and weather great! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

tnkrbell- Thanks! Which cheer organization hosted the competition at the Swan and Dolphin?

dennisnkisab96- yes, some of the older girls got it. I always go in the room before the kids and clorox all surfaces that people touch like remotes, lights... So far we have not gotten it. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

We finished our season in Jacksonville a couple of weekends ago. All of our teams are done for the season except one. Our Seniors were in Michigan this past weekend and they got a bid to Worlds. I told them that if they got their bid and they needed extra parents to go I'd volunteer (my daughter's a Pee Wee so we've got awhile til we get a chance to go to Worlds).

We are done for the year. Tryouts for next year are in three weeks. Some of you must really do a lot of competitions. We only competed twice before UCA Nationals in Orlando. Those of you who go to a lot of competitions, I am curious as to how much you spend on All-Stars. It can get quite exspensive...

How true. We compete and travel extensively...all 15 teams.

My daughter is now in her final year at Stingrays. My DW and I "kid" that we could have paid for her College Education with what we have spent the last five years. (She was an original Stingray when the program started)

It has been a wonderful experience, one that we will never forget/regret.

On the bright side...she has offers to cheer at 7 Colleges...maybe it did PAY off in the long run. :rotfl:

We have 4 kids that cheer...I am now the owners assistant to help work off some of the cost. If we paid EVERYTHING (I work off the tuition) it would have cost about $10,000 this year!!!!!! :lmao: :rotfl:

Our season ends at the end of April. We have the month of May off and try outs are May 21 &22. Then we begin practice June 1st!

I think we have spent about $3,000 for 3 kids cheering and that includes uniforms. But, we have enjoyed every minute of it. ;)

I only have one dd7 in cheerleading but she competed on two teams this past year. Our cost was about $4000 not including uniform. I fundraised everything but my monthly gym fees this past year. We have a lot of good fundraising opportunities and I'm glad because this next year we have to get new uniforms, our cost of camp clothes went up and camp is going to be a little more expensive this year. I do have to agree that cheerleading is an expensive sport and I could definitely pay for college by time she get's there. But she loves it so it's worth it.

Luckly we have not traveled out of Florida so its not as expensive since we do not have to pay plane flights but With competition fee's(7 competitions) uniform fee's hotels and tuition YIKES Dont think I want to add it up!! :) :)
But I have to say it is sooooo worth it!!! We have AWESOME parents and kids so we have so much fun together!! GO GEMZ!!!! :thumbsup2 :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I have a good idea!!!

How about we share fundraising ideas. Maybe there arey thing that some gyms do that others don't. Our gym is ALWAYS looking for new fundraising ideas.

This year we did Tupperware, cookie dough, candy bars(didn't go well), candles and wrapping paper!!

What did you guys do???
