14 of our 15 teams were National Champions. :thumbsup2
We also won the overall Program Championship.

Thanks for asking!

I started to ask the same question but figured that was going to be your answer. Some of our teams have gone against yours at Cheersport. I personally haven't seen your teams because my daughter's team didn't go to Atlanta this past year but I've heard about how good you all are.

I have a good idea!!!

How about we share fundraising ideas. Maybe there arey thing that some gyms do that others don't. Our gym is ALWAYS looking for new fundraising ideas.

This year we did Tupperware, cookie dough, candy bars(didn't go well), candles and wrapping paper!!

What did you guys do???

I like this idea because I'm always looking for ways to fundraise.

As far as selling stuff we do about the same that you do with the exception of we also do Avon. We get 40% if it doesn't have an astric and 20% if it does.

Our biggest fundraisers though are working fundraisers. We work for Papa John's at both UofL football and basketball games, and at Riverbats (baseball) games. We also work for a company called Brantley. They provide security at the Kentucky Speedway and we also work Oaks and the Kentuck Derby.

If you have a convention center or sports venues in town, check with them. We have another company here in town that a lot of other groups fundraise with. They work games at all the sports venues here in town. It's a good way to make money if you have a few hours of time that you can spare.

We also held some car washes at the beginning of the season. We host a golf scramble. And this year we are looking at getting into hosting bingo's and possibly some Texas Hold 'em tournaments.

Hope these ideas help some of you because I know how expensive this gets.

You know how we did really well was selling t-shirts within the gym. We found a person who makes t-shirts and would give us a good deal and sold them to Gemz family and friends and made enough for mirrors in the gym.
people paid 15.00 for the shirts. you just need a cute slogan we did "Gemz Shine the Brightest"

We are actually done competing. We have tryouts on Friday for next year's squads. It is interesting how UCA has restructured the age brackets. My DD4( the one who was on the tiny cheer national championship team) said that she just wants to do gymnastics next year. :confused3 I am kind of relieved since costs went up a great deal. I will have a DD7 trying out (for what was mini prep). She just got her backhandspring. Yeah!! The DD9 will try out for youth. Wish us lots of luck...Teams won't be posted until May 6th. :wizard: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Good luck at your competition tnkrbell! How exciting! Hopefully I'll be a cheer mom in the future, and it would be so neat to relive my cheer memories on a parent team!

Good luck to your girls polkadotminnie! That's sad that your little one won't be cheering next year, but she's so young that she might pick it back up in the future.

And it's not just UCA that has changed their divisions. It's the entire USASF, which is the governing body that sets all of the rules and guidelines for all star cheerleading. They are trying to combine the younger divisions to put more competitors in each group. Since the younger divisions were so spread out, there would sometimes only be a few teams, or not any, for teams to compete against. That can be very frustrating for coaches, parents and kids that have worked very hard and paid a lot of money. This will make each division more competitive, and consolidate the ages similar to the Junior and Senior divisions.

WTG rpbear!!! We are leaving tomorrow morning for Worlds as well! My 14 year old is on a SR Large All GIRL team and she was packing most of the night last night! What gym are you with and perhaps we can keep and eye out!

All-star cheering and the all the new age requirements and divisons are a bit confusing, but I think they will be wonderful.

Good LUCK TO EVERYONE trying out over the next few weeks....

I have a DS 14....DD 14..& DD 7 that all have tryouts in 2 weeks! They are SO EXCITED and have been working their skills.. :cheer2: The youngest just got her standing tuck and robhst. She cant wait to throw it in tryouts!

My DD is on the All Star Gym Cougar Cheer Small Coed Team. We are located in Carrollton Texas. This is my daughters 7th year and last year to do All Star Cheerleading, she is graduating this year. She is going to miss it. I have a 12 DD that just made a Sr. Level 3 team where she is going to be a flyer. She is very excited. This will be her 7th year to cheer.

Good Luck to you to at Worlds. What team is your daughter on?

Just wanted to say good luck to all the teams that are competing at Worlds this weekend. Our girls left today.

TNKRBELL good luck this weekend. You can do it. We had a parent team this year and their first competition was in Jacksonville in March. They were national champs and received a jacket. Although we are the panthers, each of our teams have their individual mascot and theirs was a big stuffed can of icy hot (they actually wrote extra strength on it). It was so much fun watching them compete. I'm not that brave so I'm sending you plenty of pixie dust. You deserve it. Let us know how you all do.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!

tnkrbell, congrats on this past weekend. So did you parents have fun or what?

Our girls didn't make it to the finals at world's but they were just glad to be there. They had a lot of fun. The whole team and their parents went to PT at MGM for dinner Sat. night and I heard they got in a lot of trouble :teeth: . You know how the servers are there (you get in trouble for not cleaning your plate, keep your elbows off the table). Well one mom had a birthday while they were there and she decided to start a little food fight with some of the other mom's and girls. The server made one of them stand in the corner because she had gotten into a chocolate smearing contest with another mom. They said it was an absolute blast, that it was so much fun.

The other gym from our hometown took 1st in both Coed and International Coed. They're our rivals but you gotta be happy for them. They do have great coed teams.

Hi to all of you proud cheer moms out there. It has been many months since I have visited this thread. Right now my DD is in Penn. at her first UCA work week. She made the team a couple of months ago and now they will find out where in New England that they will work. She is so Excited!!She has been cheering for 11 years now. Some with Allstars and her school and now is a SCSU cheerleader. This past January they came in 4th in the National All girl division in WDW. It was very exciting. She has cheered 3 times in Disney and it is amazing. She is also back with her old Allstar Senior Open team so she is now 19 years old and on 3 cheerleading teams. Wow! I am very proud of her but not sure how she will have time to study in the fall. Well we will be back in WDW this Jan. from the 12-15 so maybe we will see some of you all there. Good luck to everyone!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi to all you cheer parents!! I just found this thread. My DD just competed at Worlds in the Sm SR division. Her team was put together only 6 weeks before Worlds. They took a chance and competed in Baltimore after being together only 4 weeks and got the paid bid!!! Her regular team was Sm Coed Sm with only 1 boy. Many of her teammates had plans for April so they couldn't just replace him. They held tryouts after we returned from NCA Dallas and put together a new group and new routine!!

They ended up placing 8th!! In my opinion very impressive for being together for such a short time.

Stingrays Sm Sr team is so impressive!! I just love their flexibility and form in the air!! They are so clean and a pleasure to watch!! Can't wait to see them again this year. Most likely in Indiapolis or Dallas!! Unless you decide on staying in your backyard and going to Cheersport.......

Good luck to all the Allstar teams on a successful 2006-2007 season!! Stay safe and have fun!! Hope to meet up with some DIS cheer parents either in WDW (going july 28-Aug4) or at a competiion. It would be nice to keep this thread going with a list of where you'll be competiting.

Cheers to all!!

Any interest in a 'cheer' shirt /sports bra exchange for the girls????

Hello to everyone!
I just happened upon this thread, and I thought I would subscribe.
My DD (8) is an All Star cheerleader, she's been cheering since she was 3. She started her career on a mini squad when we lived in Indiana, and for her 2nd year, the gym went to Orlando (Universal Studios) to compete at US Spirit, and her team won National Champions.(along with many other titles throughout). We moved to South Carolina about 3 years ago, and she has been cheering on a youth/jr.prep team. We just changed gyms (whole 'nother story - not a good ending *except that DD is MUCH happier) and they will be having try-outs later this month.

I would just like to tell everyone good luck for this upcoming season. The moments go by so fast, so enjoy them!! There is nothing better than seeing the smile on your child's face the moment they walk off the stage!

What team is your DD on??

momof2dizkids
08-01-2006, 11:11 AM
Right now, she is at East Coast Stars ( a new gym in Myrtle Beach, SC). Try-outs are scheduled for the end of August. I believe she will either be on the youth or junior squad there.
She was previously on the youth/jr.prep team at South Carolina Spirit (also in Myrtle Beach). That gym just closed like 3 weeks ago, so we had to change.

As of right now, our upcoming competition schedule isn't 100% decided upon... I think for our upcoming season, we plan on doing a lot of local (Myrtle Beach) competitions, but, if the opportunity arises, who knows??? We might go to Florida for a competition.
Yes, change is hard, but my DD is WAY happier where she is now. She's even improved in the last few weeks!! At our old gym, it got frustrating because if a tumbling pass or standing tumbling wasn't in the routine - then why practice it? There really wasn't "pushing or encouraging" the kids to get better. (That's why half of the squad was doing cartwheels/forward rolls!!!)

Thanks for the well wishes!!

Hello to all of the cheermoms out there: My DD is a college cheerleader for SCSU and last year in Disney they came in 4th for all girl division. This year she tells me they will be better. So we will be there again for Jan Nationals. She is also a CTspirit Allstar cheerleader and she is on UCA staff. She has been working at a lot of New England camps this summer for UCA and loves it. She has been a cheerleader for 12 years and the funny thing is that I don't know if she will ever stop. Hi I haven't checked in on this site in a while so I am just updating from my last post. My DD cheers for college SCSU and she will compete at UCA Nationals again this Jan. She is still an Allstar Cheerleader for CT Spirit College Open team, she is a UCA Staff cheerleader so she traveled all summer to New England camps and had a blast. And as of this past Tues. her local High School team lost their head coach and they offered her the job! I don't know how she will do it all as she does live in a dorm with 4 other cheerleaders (which must be hard to study) but she tells me she can do it all! So I am just a very Proud Cheer Mom and had to brag a little. Thanks for listening. Good luck to all of the cheerleaders and cheermoms out there! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thanks for the pm to the site Tink...

My DD is on a Junior level 5 and Sr Coed Sm level 5. She's a HS frosh & cheers for JV Football & Basketball also. Our competitions haven't been etched in stone yet, just know one is usually in Florida (the rest I think they throw an atlas in the air & go to whichever state it opens to :rotfl: )

Your DD does both competitive and HS cheer? What state are you in? In IL, where I live, kids have to chose one or the other. If the HS team competes in addition to cheering at games, the cheerleaders are prohibited from participating in an All Star program. This is because the IHSA, our high school sport governing body, has deemed cheerleading a sport. In IL you can't participate in a HS sport and be on a club team -- in any sport.

I guess the idea is to level the playing field; but, in the long run I think it hurts the HS teams. I know most of the girls on DD's senior squad didn't even consider trying out for HS 'cause they didn't want to quit competitive cheer.

Pretty much the same here in MA. However, here in MA the allstar teams don't compete until Dec at the earliest and HS fall cheer teams are usually over by then so they can get through that 'loophole' so to speak. Most girls do give up Winter cheer to compete allstars.

My DD had to give up HS cheer this year due to a practice conflict with her allstar team. She was quite disappointed but chose allstars because it is so much more competitive than her HS team!!

Good luck to all as the season quickly approaches!!

Welcome to all the new Cheer parents to this thread!!! GO US!!!! :cheer2:
We have to stick together~! :sunny:
Im very excited about our teams performing for the opening night of the Florida Panthers V's the Boston Bruins!! (Im from Ma. so Im a Bruins fan!shhhh!!) They all learned a new routine to do for this since we will not be on a spring floor and the coaches do not want to take any chances of anyone getting hurt. Im hoping they show them even for a blurb on tv!! It will be televised here and in Boston!! :sunny:

WOW, that is a late start to the Comp season, at least by IL standards! DD's first competition is a JamFest regional in mid-October. They will have three major competitions under their belts by the second weekend in Dec.

Here in the northeast we don't have hardly any comps to attend in Nov.

We are doing the Jamfest Jingle on Dec. 16 in MA and then right to Jamfest Super Nationals in Indy!!! In the past we have always just gone to WSF Atlantic City in December and that is a Nationals!! NOthing like jumping right in!!

Good luck and maybe see you in Indy or Dallas!!! or even better at Worlds in Disney!!!

"Good luck and maybe see you in Indy or Dallas!!! or even better at Worlds in Disney!!!"

I definitely would LOVE to have a DIS cheer mom meet at either Indy or Dallas! DD's team will not be competing at Worlds, she's level 4; but, we are hoping our SR L5 and Coed L5 will get bids. Coed L5 competed at Worlds last years and made it to finals! :cheer2: :cheer2:

DD and I are planning on going to Worlds just to see all the amazing L5s that compete. The trip to Worlds will be her 16th birthday present! (OK, I admit it...I will use any reason I can to plan a trip to Disney.)

The website for Worlds is:

www.usasf.net

Worlds for 2007 is April 21-23 (or close!! but that weekend).

If you live close enough or are in disney at that time and love cheering, it is worth watching!! Day 2 especially! Since Day1, the teams with paid bids don't compete and usually those are the better (not all the time, but the majority of the time).

Rosemary,

DD cheers for Ice Athletics in Naperville, Illinois. Here's the website, if you want to check it out!

http://www.iceathletics.com/

(Last year's Coed 5 was the first Illinois team to ever make it to finals at Worlds.)

JamFest in Indy just keeps getting better and better. This year will be DD's 5th time competing at Super Nationals -- 3 diffferent teams ( a whole other story! LOL) Each year, we see more teams, from greater distances, competing in Indy. Last year, the team to beat was Stingrays out of GA. It was their first year at JamFest. All of their squads really stepped up and represented their program!

BTW, DD is looking forward to seeing your DD's team compete. Would your DD be interested in swapping team Ts with mine before Indy? Let me know!

Good luck to everyone! I am so excited for the start of the season! I can't wait to see what all the different teams bring to the cheer floor!

Great website Espana. My dd's website is: www.eastelite.com

My DD would probably be interested in swapping T shirts. I will have to see if she has any T's!!! They mostly wear sports bras and team shirts that are not quite t shirts (fitted shirts). What size does your daughter take?? I know I have some hanging around!!! And I am sure I could also buy one from our pro shop!!! Would she rather a 'team shirt' or a gym shirt!!???

DD's team got a paid bid just 2 weeks before worlds!! It was quite exciting!! DD is a flyer...............how about your DD??

Hopefully -we will get a bid to UCA nationals March 9-11. We had 9 teams go last year. My middle DD is on a second grade and under level 2 team. My oldest DD9 is on junior level 2. Tnkrbell-great video. Is your DD a flyer or base? Did you say it is a small level 3 Junior squad? My DD10 is on a large level 2 junior squad. She loves it, but has to work really hard at it. She is not a natural for the gymnastics. It is our second year cheering so we are still learning a lot. It really comes the easiest for DD7 . She is on a large mini level 2 squad. Unfortunately, she gets easily bored waiting for others to catch on. She has said that she might do just gymnastics next year. We'll see if she changes her mind...

Hi
Thanks!! She is a base! My daughter as well has to really work on the tumbling!! Most of her team (25) can do tucks and fulls!!She is just now doing her back handspring!!!! But Im still proud of her!! She is an AWESOME base!! She will never let you down!~! and her dance and cheer motions are terrific!
She is Jr prep or Youth Large level 3 (depending on what the company calls it 11 years and younger)
BUT this routine is NOT a level 3 routine or what they will be doing this season just something fun they could do on a marble floor!! :) I think they still did well under the circumstances!! (marble floor, no lines, very small space or spring floor)

Yes, I am coaching. I coach tiny cheer (5 and younger). I have a young team this year-most are just 4. There are 19 of them. I have a DD4 on my squad. My middle, DD7, is on Mini level 2. They have 34 girls on their squad. DD7 is pretty good. It comes easy for her. She has her series of backhandsprings and is starting to work on a tuck. They have placed in the top 3 at UCA Nationals at Disney the last several years. They are out to win this year and I think they have the talent. My oldest, DD10, is on large Junior (14 and under) level 2 squad. Tumbling does not come easy for her. I just want her to gain confidence. She is a great base and has come such a long way in one year. She loves it the most and works twice as hard as her sisters.
My older 2 DD's compete in Cheersport Birmingham on Dec.16th. My squad competes again Jan. 6th in Huntsville, AL. My squad is the defending UCA National champions. (I wasn't coaching last year.) You can see their picture on Varsity.com. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hey Guys!!
Who are seasons going?? We just had a GREAT weekend at our State competition called Matchplay. The way it works is you compete in your normal division then at awards they start with7th,6th,5th etc... till the top two!! The top two go back stage and come out head to head clean slate winner takes all!!!! 3 of our 4 teams made it to Matchplay!! We are so proud!! My dd team (Youth 3) took 1st!!!!!! :) :)
We did have a scary time later in the night when it was time for our Senior team to compete. Back stage one of our girls fell from a stunt and was rushed to the emergency room she couldnt feel her fingers or toes at first!! VERY SCARY!!! She is ok Thanks God!! Needless to say the girls were a wreck when they went on stage they were all so worried for their teammate!!! We are so proud of those girls they are just so sweet!!!
so fill me in.... How is everyone doing??

Neat competition! Glad to hear that your DD's team won and the girl is OK.:thumbsup2
We are competing in a week at a COA Open Nationals in Birmingham, Alabama. I am looking forward to seeing some competition for my Tiny team. We are a young team but pretty good so I am anxious to see how they stack up. We are UCA defending National champs. WOO! HOO! I hope we can do it again. It is March 10th weekend in Orlando. Next year, we will have a fantastic team because we will have a lot of 5 year olds.
We are only taking 4 teams to this competition. Both my other girls squads are really good too. The way they have restructured, there should be more competition at each level.

Glad to here she was ok. That's scary.

We competed at JamFest Super Nationals this past weekend and one of the other teams that was in my dd's division (youth level 4) did a stunt that they tossed the girl forward and no one caught her. She hit the floor face first pretty hard. All you heard around you was the gasps of everyone. I hate to see stunts come down because I always worry that someone will get hurt really bad.

Congrats on their placements! My dd8 is on both our Mini level 2 and Youth level 4. Our mini's got 5th out of 20 teams. Our youth got 4th (we were in 2nd after the first day) but we had a few tumbling mistakes this past weekend. One real obvious, she was suppose to do a round-off back up the center and only did the round-off (obvious missed tumbling pass) plus some touch downs. We were still proud of them though. Our senior level 4 took 6th out of 13 but they had a girl accidently through a double toe back and got a major deduction. Our junior level 1 took 1st place though.

Now it's time to start getting ready for Cheersport Atlanta. All our teams took 1st at Cheersport Regionals here in Kentucky but there will be a lot more competition in Atlanta. We've just got some cleaning up to do in the routines. I just hope our mini team does good. We keep going up against teams full of bigger kids but our's are holding their own (we have quite a few 5 & 6 year olds)

So who's going to Cheersport Atlanta? Just curious, I'd like to know who's going so I can cheer your teams on.

Unfortunately we are not going to UCA. I'm the travel coordinator for our gym and I keep telling our director that we need to go to Orlando. I want extra Disney time. We are going to go over to Disney and stay for 2 days in March after our Jacksonville competition:yay:. I guess I'll just keep having to bug him though. I know we won't get to go next year to UCA, although I'm not going to complain because I've heard though our booster president that he's going to get teams together that want to go to Jamfest in Cancun, which is in March.

I will definitely send pixie dust to everyone going to UCA.pixiedust:

It's just 3 weeks until UCA Nationals and they have pulled my DD10 to fly instead of base. She is extremely flexible and has an awesome heel stretch, bow... They didn't have her flying because she was bigger (taller) than the other fliers but they decided that since she is so flexible that she needs to go up. I am a little nervous since she hasn't flown before. I don't want her to make a mistake that costs them.
Send us some pixie dust...Tink is a flier, right?:rotfl: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
