Hi everyone! :wave2: I'm new at this exercise thing. All my life I have never been worried about my weight...until now. I am 25 yrs old, 5ft nothing, and weighing in at 120lbs! Some people might say that 120lbs isn't much, but if up until about a year & a half ago I was only weighing 100lbs...it's a BIG difference. All the weight I have gained is in my belly, my hips, my thinghs, and my bottom. Now, how do I go about exercising? I haven't exercised a day in my life. I don't even know if I know how! I know I have to eat better too, but I want to do this one step at a time. The eating better is the least of my worries because I basically do that already. But how do I exercise? What do I do? I belong to a gym, Lucille Roberts, women only, but I just don't know what to do when I'm there. Everyone else in there seems to know what they're doing & don't even look like they belong there! A personal trainer is way too expensive for me. I live at home still & only have my small bedroom for any kind of privacy. Can someone please give me some help?? Thank You so much and I'm sorry this is so long!! :flower:

I think the best way to start is to commit to 20-30 minutes a week. Grab your walkman/ipod and take a brisk walk...anywhere. Does your neighborhood have a good path to walk on? Sidewalk? If you go to the sporting good store buy a pedometer (McDonald's has them in their "Go Active" meals). A pedometer counts every step you take. The experts suggest you take 10,000 steps a day. But in the beginning you can just walk for 20-30 minutes in your neighborhood. If you do this and cut your food portions down you will definitely lose weight!

You can also walk on the treadmill at the gym.

Take it one week at a time.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to TRY to start this coming Sunday. My boyfriend is going to walk with me every night and he is letting me borrow his AB Lounge to see how I like that. Not sure when I'll get back to the gym. I want to take this one day at a time. I just need lots of motivation! :flower:

I have felt like that when I've been in a gym too. The best thing to do is ask if they can give you a consultation. They should for your own benefit so you don't hurt yourself on the machines. That will get you started and then ask that if you get confused about a certain machine who you should ask if you need help. DON'T hesitate to do that!!!! Like I said, it's important in order to work the machines properly so you don't hurt yourself.

Agree with the others, going out and walking is great as well!!!! And if your boyfriend goes with you each time, it's a great bonding time. Good luck!
