I have noticed a slight price difference in a MYW package versus booking the room and tickets separately. I made sure there was no vacation insurance, no preferred rooms or any other add-ons when doing the comparison.

6 nights @AS-sp, MYW base package (3 adults, 1 child): $1481.39
6 nights @AS-sp and MYW base ticket (3 adults, 1 child): $1473.50

It's not that big of a diffrence, I just want to know what I am paying for. Is the extra $8 for the photopass and the luggage tags?

Thanks!

I am actually surprised that it is that little a difference. The last two times I booked at WDW I did so with room only and bought tickets seperate. Prior to that I booked a package (first trip and had not discovered these pages). I saved about $200 each trip I booked everything seperate. I cannot imagine what the $8 is for. Maybe someone else can weigh in.

Since Disney has switched to MYW packages, the cost is much closer now than it used to be.

You're right - the $8 could cover the luggage tags, etc. Also, it's a convenience to just book a package - vs. having to buy the tickets separately. :)

And probably helps cover the cost of mailing your package documents to you. :)

With the new ticketing program, it really doens't make much of a difference in package vs room only + tickets unless you are getting an AP best rate for the room or a good package deal comes out like the free dining.

Isn't it true that with a package, you cannot cancel without a penalty when you are after the 45days mark?
I think for room only it is 6 or 5 days.

That's correct. A package must be paid in full 45 days before arrival - with a penalty for changes/cancellations after that day. With a room-only reservation, the balance is due upon arrival, but there is a fee for changes/cancellations within 5 days of arrival.
