When I first started my WISH journal, my goal was pretty straightforward; I wanted to keep track of what I was eating and push myself away from processed foods and toward whole foods and more healthy choices. I also wanted to start an exercise program.

Even though I suceeded in both of these goals, I wasn't happy with my slow rate of weight loss, so I started the South Beach diet. Since starting it, I've really been struggling with what it means to have a healthy relationship with food. I went from really discovering how much I enjoyed healthy food to having mild panics about what I can and can't eat.

Maybe I'm just over-reacting (or maybe I'm just hungry!), but I just hate feeling anxious about food all the time.

So, I thought I'd ask some of you here- how do you maintain a healthy perspective on food when you're trying to lose weight?

I am trying to get out of my mind that I am trying to lose weight.

My idea is that I am making healthy choices of quantity and variety. I keep in the back of my mind smaller portions. I also have been breaking up my meal portions when I can.

I take breakfast and split that into 2. Have the first part then a couple hours later finish it. I do the same for lunch. Can't manage that at dinner much.

My mind is trying to learn that I do not live to eat, rather eat to live. I am doing what I can to refocus and also become more busy so I don't have all that time to eat or even think of eating. I plan what I can eat in my mind that is for the day or next day and then I do my best to leave the rest out.

I must say though I am not always winning, but it is small progress.

WISHing you the best in figuring out what works for you.

Its such a tough thing to NOT be obsessed about. My finace LOVES to eat. And he LOVES to eat junk. It is so hard to watch him eat it all up and refrain from joining him. (Just FYI, I did gain all of the weight that I am looking to lose during our courtship. . .I didn't really have a problem before).

So I use smaller portions to my advantage. Then I can sometime indugle in the delicious foods he always picks. I have to keep reminding myself how great I feel when I eat well.
