View Full Version : Okay, here it is...Official DIS Convention info!!!!!! (originally a post from the Community Board)

Okay, I think we have things nailed down enough for me to announce the details. We will begin accepting reservations on Monday. At first, we will only take reservations from those who will be using the hotel package, as we need to solidify that contract first. Those who don't want the hotel, don't fear. We will be offering a 'convention only' package within the next few weeks.

Deposits for the event will have to be paid by check. The deposit to hold your place is $200 per room. Due to the fact that we have negotiated VERY good prices with the Disney hotels, Disney Club and Annual Pass discounts will not apply.

The hotel packages include the following:

- 5 days/4 nights accommodations at the hotel you select
- Private DIS Character Breakfast (with the location and characters to be announced..we're trying for Mickey, Minnie and Cinderella)
- Continental Breakfast one morning
- Welcome Reception
- Dinner at Epcot (France or Canada), followed by a dessert party in the private viewing area for Illuminations
- Dessert party in the private viewing area for Fantasmic
- Family photo session for each participant
- DIS Lanyard
- Surprise Gift for kids under 18

The prices are per person based on double occupancy:

- Yacht Club - $689 per person
- Swan/Dolphin - $586 per person
- Port Orleans - $469 per person
- All Star Movies - $364 per person
- Holiday Inn Family Suites - $444 per person
- Buena Vista Suites - $416 per person
- Holiday Inn Maingate East - $329 per person

The price for a third/fourth adult (10 and over) in each room is $229 per person

The price for a third/fourth child (under 10) in each room is $159 per person

Add on days are available at all the resorts (up to 3 days before and 3 days after) at the following rates (taxes included):

- Yacht/Beach Club: $238.65
- Swan/Dolphin: $187.59
- Port Orleans: $128.76
- All Star Movies: $76.59
- Holiday Inn Family Suites: $116.55
- Buena Vista Suites: $102.12
- Holiday Inn Maingate East: $58.83

A deposit of $200 per room is due no later than Feb 12th.

The cost for 'event only' participants is $229 per person (10 and over) and $159 per person (under 10).

I'm going to try and answer some questions that we have been asked already:

- Can we just do part of the event? Unfortunately, it would be an administrative nightmare to do partial events, so where the events are concerned, it would require the full package.

- Can I just do the events and not the hotel?
Yes. We will be opening up the reservations to events only in a few weeks. First, we have to establish how many rooms we are going to need. Once we have done that, we will allow people to book event only reservations.

- What if all the members of my party are not going to participate in the events, but will be staying in the room with us?
We will work this on a case by case basis for special pricing. There is no way for us to pre-determine pricing as it depends on the number of adults/children that will be participating. We will be including a special email address on the reservation form where special requests can be sent.

- Will there be any events taking place that are free of charge? Yes. We will be hosting some events around property that will be open to everyone, regardless of convention status. We are still working on those events, and the details are a few months off.

- Can I specify which room/view I want at the hotels? Right now, we are not blocking specific room views, and it may be difficult to accomodate such requests. Certainly, if there is a member of your party that has special needs, we will do everything we can to accommodate them.

- What will the menu's be for the various buffets? I have absolutely no idea. We have not gotten quite that far yet.

- What will the price be for those who just want to attend the events?
The cost will be $229 for persons 10 years and older and $159 for persons under 10.

- Is theme park admission included in the above prices?
No. The prices above are only for hotel/event. There will be special 4 day convention tickets available for $202 (incl tax) for adults 10 and over and $161 (incl tax) for children under 10. 5 day passes are also available for $230 for adults and $182 for children. These passes include admission to both Disney Quest and Pleasure Island.

- Is there an additional room charge for third and fourth adults in the room?
Yes, the cost is $25 per person (Yach/Beach/Swan/Dolphin), $15 per person (Port Orleans) and $10 per person (All Stars/Holiday Inn/Buena Vista Suites).

- Will there be an option for us to add a 3 or 4 night cruise after the event?
Yes, we are working on special pricing for a cruise add on. More details to follow.

I'm sure there will be other questions that I have not addressed here, and there will be more details and information (and events) as the year progresses. Right now, we need to get a clear picture of who will be attending, so we can finalize all those arrangements.

As I said, the reservation form will be on-line Monday (by early afternoon), and we will post links on all the boards (as well as the DIS home page) when it's ready. Please keep in mind that your place is not held until we receive the deposit ($200).

So, there you have it. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them.

Thanks,
Pete

Hi Pete,
Do we have the option of choosing between the Yacht Club and Beach Club, or are we limited to the Yacht Club? I've never stayed at the latter, and am curious about it ... Thanks

quick questions before I absorb all this info:

Do BOTH the 4 day and 5 day tickets include admission to both Disney Quest and Pleasure Island? Or is it just the 5 day?

Do the room package prices include taxes?

I'm still wondering if I can purchase one events package for myself and one for the rest of my family to take turns using?

Do the 4 and 5 day convention hoppers expire at the end of the convention, or will unused days be good forever?

Barb

Thanks for posting the info. I was wondering the same thing as danacara, do we have a choice if we go with the YC/BC resort? I don't know that I have a preference as I have never stayed at either one. My other question is that as of right now, I am attending solo. How does this affect the package rate? Do I just register and let you know my status as I get closer to the trip? Thanks, again. This is going to be awesome!!! :D‡

To answer the questions:

- Can you choose between the Yacht OR Beach Club? You can specify a preference, but there is no guarantee.

- Do both passes include DQ and PI? Yes, they do.

- Will the events only portion include everything (like lanyard and photo). Yes, everything listed for the events is included in the event only price.

- Can a third child fit in any of the rooms? Yes, at the YC/BC there is a twin day bed, and at Port Orleans, there is a youth trundell that fits a child up to age 10. Also, the rooms at Holiday Inn Family Suites are two room kid suites.

Thanks,
Pete

...and answers to more questions:

Q. How are the prices affected if you are travelling solo? I'm working out those prices now and will post them shortly.

Q. Can I purchase one events package for myself and one for the rest of my family to take turns using? Yes. When you check in for the event, you will be given a lanyard that will hold your ID. The ID is your access to all events. You could put the ID on one child one night, another child the other, etc. Obviously, an adult will not be able to use a childs ID, but you get the idea.

Q. How does the rate work if the 2nd person in the room is a child? The rate is slightly lower. The room charge remains the same, but the events portion is less for the child (about $70). I will post more specific rates on that in a little while.

Thanks,
Pete

Okay, regarding Convention passes, they are not good forever, but we're finding out exactly when they expire. I'll post more when we find out.

As far as solo prices and 1 Adult/1 child, here is how it breaks out.

Solo Prices;

Yacht/Beach: $1,146.35
Swan/Dolphin: $942.11
Port Orleans: $706.79
All Star Movies: $498.11
Holiday Inn Family Suites: $657.95
Holiday Inn Maingate East: $427.07
Buena Vista Suites: $600.23

1 Adult / 1 Child Price:

Yacht/Beach: $1,273.30
Swan/Dolphin: $1,069.06
Port Orleans: $833.74
All Star Movies: $625.06
Holiday Inn Family Suites: $784.90
Holiday Inn Maingate East: $554.02
Buena Vista Suites: $727.18

As far as roommates go, I'll try and set up something "formal" with the reservations page. I'm still working on that, but we will definately take that into account. As far as refunds go, the refund policy will be fairly liberal. I have to reveiw that with Linda first, and I'll post more details on that as I find them.

Thanks,
Pete

Pete ... I see that the deposit of $200 per room has to be paid by check; that's not a problem, but I'm just curious about the remainder of the payments. Will they still be due as discussed in chat the other night -- half July 1, remainder October 15? And will those payments also be accepted by check only? Or will credit cards be acceptable? (If so, which card(s) can be used?)

Thanks very much,

Hey Pete,

I think you have a lot of great events planned for the DIS 2001 convention. How about one more? I think a lot of DISer's would love to participate in a INFOPOP employee public flogging. I know every DISer would be willing to pay a pretty penny to get a shot at one of those guys. Especially after today, how dare they interfere with your big DIS convention announcement. Let me at those INFOPOP programmers!

I have lots of questions, here's one. Do you need to buy a Convention Theme Park Ticket, or Park Hopper, to attend the dinner in Epcot and Illuminations party, same for Fantasmic, or does your status as a Convention "delegate" get you entry without them?

We already have reservations for 11/21 through 11/30. I know we can't extend due to school schedules.

Is there an option for attending 11/28-30?

How much would it be for a family of 7 (one is a baby to stay at the beach club or other resorts and take part in the convention? Can you tell me more about it, like what is it:??I am new here and read on the details and they sound great. Can anyone come??? Would there be suites for bigger families or would we need 2 rooms? Thanks

Here are a few questions I hope you can answer

1. Does the $625.06 fee for one adult and one child count if the child is 14?

2. Are there 4 day park hopper discounted tickets if you dont want Disney Quest or Pleasure Island?

3. I thought that we didn't have to send any money until July, is that true?

4. Do you have any schedule for any meets?

5. What special events is the convention going to have?

Also, im really happy Fantasmic is on the 29th. Thats my 15th birthday and Fantasmic is my favorite show in the world. I listen to that soundtrack every single night when i go to sleep and ive been doing it for 2 years. Thansk for reading my mind!

We want to stay at the YC for 3 nights before and 1 night after the convention...

is the $238.65 per person perday based on double occupancy?

--and--

what is the cost per child (10 and 3) per night for the add-on days?

Tia, I think the $238 is a straight room charge, no need to multiply it per person.

How about including a PS for the Epcot Candlelight Processional - maybe on Wed. nite? We were there this year and really enjoyed it very much. The only thing that would make it better would be a way around the long line we had to wait in even with our PS that is available to regular park goers who buy the dinner package. :)

If we stay at the All Star Movies,is there transportation to the Y&B....so we can make it to events being held there?? Or will we have to get a cab, or rent a car??

What if 4 adults want to share a room----myself and 3 other friends (going solo). What is the price per person then???

Okay, I'll try and answer as many questions as I can.

1. You must all be patient in terms of a formal schedule. We have a great deal to work out and we are going to take things like MVMCP into account.

2. This is open to ANYONE who wants to attend. No special status is required.

3. Deposits for the initial set of reservations will need to be recieved here by Feb 12th. Anyone who pays a deposit by that date will be guaranteed a spot. The problem is that I'm not sure how many rooms we're going to need, so I need to play it by ear. I think we'll be able to accommodate everyone who wants to attend, but there is a possibility that we may have to cap attendance. As we start taking reservations, I'll let everyone know.

4. You are not required to buy the convention passes in order to attend the events. If you have an annual pass, you can use that, or you can just buy a 1 day park ticket for each event, it's entirely up to you. The convention tickets are park hoppers, but do not include the water parks (only the plus passes include that). The convention passes include access to Disney Quest and Pleasure Island.

5. As far as partial events go. As I mentioned in my initial post, it would be an absolute nightmare for us to try and figure out charges based on each individual element of the convention. Therefore, we can not offer 'partial' event passes at this time. Perhaps as the year progresses and we have a clearer picture of attendance, etc., then we may open up that option, but at this time, I don't see it happening.

6. As far as what the cost will be for various situtions, you will be able to calculate that on Monday, when we release the reservation form. It will allow you to select various options and price them out before making a reservation.

7. To answer Britnys4Me questions: The per person fee applies to any person over the age of 10 (they are considered adults by Disney).
There are no additional discounts on the 4 day convention passes if you don't want or use DQ or PI. It's part of the ticket, not a seperate add on. Deposits must be sent in by Feb 12th in order to secure your place. A second payment will be due in July, and final payment in October. No schedule for any meets has been established at this time, nor has a final schedule of events been planned. The special events for the convention were listed in my initial post.

Thanks,
Pete

You mentioned the trundle at Port Orleans and the daybed at Y&BC, can Swan/Dolphin accomodate a family of 5 who are all over the age of 3?

When I go to the DIS Resort descriptions, it would seem the answer is no. But when you search the Resort Board, it would seem that a rollaway is possible.

Just wondering.

Hi! The cost of the add on rooms nights is not based per person like the package it is based per night and includes tax, ie. if you stay the Sunday night after the convention there is a total additional cost to your package of $238.65 . However remember that if the room has over 2 adults in it there is an extra adult charge.

As for 5 in a room, the Yacht and Beach offer a daybed (twin size) in some rooms, Port Orleans Riverside (a.k.a. Dixie Landings) offers a youth sized trundle. All resorts offer cribs.

What would be the best "park admission" passes for my family to buy? We'll be there Sunday through Sunday (leaving Monday). :)

Granted we'll be participating in a lot (if not all) of the convention events, but we will still want/need to park-hop in between these events. :D

After calling TDS, it sounds like purchasing a 6-day hopper plus ticket for each of us will be the best...especially since we can purchase the passes with our Disney Club card. With the DC discount an adult 6-day pass is $278.71 and a child 6-day pass is $222.61. :)

Have I answered my own question, or is there a better deal to be had out there? :D :)

My family of 5 will stay at the Dolphin during the convention, and we'll have a rollaway in the room (available at an extra charge - usually $25/day). The reservation was made before the DIS convention was announced. However, that option (of a rollaway for the 5th person) simply may not be available during the DIS convention.

If you are a teacher, a government employee, have the Entertainment membership (Disney Club membership suffices) or an AP, you may save money by reserving the Swan/Dolphin on your own.

Brtny: No one is guaranteed a room until the deposit is made. The problem is that there are a finite number of rooms that we can block out for the event. Once we meet our minimum (which I think we'll do very quickly), we must contract for the rooms. At that point, we may be able to add on IF there is availability (and that's a big IF). So, there is a possibility we will be able to accept deposits after the 12th of Feb, but I can not guarantee it. It all depends on how many rooms we book between now and then.

For those who will need other park passes, I'm working on pricing right now for TicketRES. I'm certain that we'll be able to beat the DC price, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I'll post that info when I have it.

Thanks,
Pete

This is a DIS event, and while Dreams is coordinating the contract with Disney, these prices are contracted rates for this event only, and can not be had any other way...sorry :(

The drop-dead cancellation date will likely be anwhere from October 1 to October 15.

I should have the reservation form on line later this evening, and I'll post when it's ready. The Res form will handle most of the calculations for you, so you can see what each option costs before making your decision.

So here's my question for Linda, Pete, Marsha, etc.: Would it be better for me to register TWO at ASMo, and later cancel her if she can't go? Or register as a solo and add her later if necessary?? (Or doesn't it matter? Can this work either way?)

Since we will most likely come a day early ( but arrive late in the day ) could we book a "extra day" at ASM, then switch to S/D for the package ?

Okay, I'm still confused. So here's my situation, I am a DVC member and will be staying at OKW - I want to be part of the convention but I already own an annual pass - so I assume that I want to purchase the events only part of the convention, but then when I'm reading thru this post, I come upon this quote from Pete:

Are you talking about convention park passes, or do our lanyards plus ids get us into the parks for the events or are these an additional cost to the events? I'm sorry that I just don't understand this part. I so want to be a part of all of this fun.

Whenever they call me a dreamer, I think of Walt Disney and smile:)

NancyIL
01-25-2001, 09:20 AM
I think the convention passes mentioned by Pete are the admission tickets. You still have to use some sort of admission to get into the parks for some of the events.

jennybobenny
01-25-2001, 09:42 AM
Iluvdisney, I was confused about that too. If I understand it correctly there are 3 different types of 'packages' or 'passes'. There's the room package which includes the resort room and all convention events. There's the events package which includes only convention events. And then there are special convention passes which are park passes sold at a special convention rate/price -- usually lower than regular park hopper passes, but unlike park hoppers these expire at the end of the convention or on a specified date.
Hope that helps ;)

The prices listed for the 4 and 5-day hoppers are the same as regularly-priced hoppers. But the ability to go to Pleasure Island and DQ are worth quite a bit - if you'll go there.

<IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused"> Okay, Pete. Hope you step in here soon. ;)

What's with the passes? I guess I'm a little confused too. Don't want to purchase park admission passes until I understand this better. :)

I just have a quick question. I know the cancellation deadline will be sometime in October, but what would the refund policy be in the event we had to cancel before the deadline. Would it be a complete refund of any deposits/payments we had made at that point or would there be a cancellation fee.

I hope I can make it, but I'm not sure I'll be in the same job so I won't know if I could get the time off until that issue gets settled.

Thank you so much for the all of the hard work you've done to put together such a wonderful event.

I sure can't speak for Pete, but this is the way I read that post...

You do not have to buy the special park passes (Convention Passes) in order to go to the events. However, since some of these events are held within the gates of the parks, you will have to have some form of admission media in order to get inside the park, to where the event is being held. So that could be the special Convention Passes...or it could be your Annual Pass...or it could be a 1-day ticket for just that park.

So for you iluvdisney, that would mean all you would need is the Event Passes, since you'll already have somewhere to stay, and you'll already have a way to get into the parks.

If I'm wrong, then Pete can give me 20 lashes with a wet noodle!

Hi Folks:

I've been busy on other projects, and have not kept up with the thread.

1) Yes, there will be shirts (and hopefully) pins just for the convention.

2) The events that we're hosting (like the Tower of Terror, Fantasmic Dessert, Illuminations Dessert) require park admission (that's not included in the price). If you have an annual pass, you can use that, or purchase your own admission, etc. The convention park hopper passes will be offered for convenience.

Hope that answers the question.

Thanks,
Pete

When I tried to reserve my resort package, I get a price of $120 MORE than what i added up on your earlier quote. My party consists of myself, adult :) a 16year old and 2 twelve year olds. I am getting charged extra somewhere. I read another post on this somewhere about a simular situation, but i can't find it now. Any one want a crack at this? I come up with a price of $1186. The reservation link comes up with a price of $1306. Thanks for any help. Gerri

Will we have to purchase the event packages in advance?
I know I'll need two for DH and I,
but still am not sure if DS will come.
Can I add an extra event package at registration on the first day of the convention?

Thanks Pete, Linda, and Marsha !!! :)

OK, now for the lamest question. When is it? I know it's probably right under my nose, but I didn't see it in Pete's "Official DIS Convention" post. Can it be edited to that post for those of us new to the idea. I even did a search for "DIS convention" for any info, and nothing came up. Dear Pete,
If we already sent in our check with the 200.00 deposit, when can we expect confirmation? Thanks

Hi hockeynut...I'll take a stab at this...I can never remember where Pete said this, but somewhere on one of these threads he said that once we have 'gone to contract' he will (or Linda or someone) start e-mailing people to firm up their ressies...that should be somewhere after February 12th...probably need to get the 'events-only' tickets appropriated first. :)
