My son's 9th birthday will be next month (July 4th). He says he wants a red velvet cake, but he doesn't want the traditional icing, he wants chocolate icing. He's never had red velvet cake, and I'm not sure why he's decided he's gotta have this cake.:p
How will chocolate icing taste on a red velvet cake? Is there a certain chocolate that would taste better (milk chocolate, fudge, etc)?
TIA. :flower:

since I am at work and don't have access to my recipe box.
I believe that Red Velvet cake already has some cocoa powder in it. I think that you mix the red food coloring with the cocoa powder and then add to the cake batter.
So I guess if he doesn't want the traditional cream cheese frosting...I would make a buttercream type using whatever type of cocoa powder you used in the cake.
Actually....I think I would make half the cake with cream cheese and half with chocolate! Kind of like a "black & white" cookie my grandma used to make (but we called them "half moon" cookies).

Thanks Meezers. Oooh! I think I'll ask him if he'd like a half moon cake.:) Thanks for the idea.
