We have been several times and have brought everything from cowboy boots to DVD's in the past.So much stuff has gone down in price over here. (example Jeans from ASDA £3.99) I was wondering what people still view as real bargains in the states. :cool1:
:listen: any suggestions will be viewed with interest as we are itching to hit the shops this August

Golf clubs
iPods
Wrangler jeans ($15 -- think they're about £35-£40 here)
Dockers (<$30 -- >£40 here)
Livestrong wristbands (99c -- £3.99 here)
Tiffany's stuff
Jimmy Choo stuff (which is a suprise, because it's a British company)
LVMH and Chanel stuff appears to be more expensive than here (although there are some cheap TAG watches at Premium Outlets)
Anything that costs the same or smaller number in dollars as it does in pounds is going to be a bargain regardless of the exchange rate.

Actually we didn't see a Wal-Mart when we were there. Well, we saw one -- just south of Disney near the Osceola Parkway but they didn't seem to have finished building it.
Got plenty of bargains in Publix and SuperTarget (up by the Mall at Millenia) though.

Ralph Lauren shirts $49, Skechers shoes $50 most Timberland shoes are much cheaper, Nike trainers.....I found recently that whatever we pay in pounds costs dollars over there and when I was there a few weeks ago we were getting £1 to $1.86 which made it very good vale.

Most US brands will be considerably cheaper, things like Oakley sunglasses - I bought a couple of pairs that were around $130 each, they were £130 each in the UK.
The factory sports stores are very good also, the Nike one in Kissimmee on the 192 is excellent, I paid $30 for a pair that were £70 over here.
So just go for the US brands and you will save a fortune.
I really like the silk shirts you can buy, usually from the Tommy Bahama store in the Florida or Mall at Millenia Malls - not everybodys cup of tea I know but great value for money.
My wife likes the Fossil store at Universal, or ANY store that sells handbags for that matter :)
The surf shops such as Quiet Flight at Universal are also much cheaper than over here and do great clothing for kids too, we always buy a few things for our little boy here.
The Factory stores can be a bit hit and miss, sometimes you find bargains and other times you dont.

My Wife works at Asda's in the UK, so we naturally tried Walmart.
The one referred to along SR535 opened a few weeks back. It kinds of supercedes the one along US192 East near Medieval Times. However, the best one I found was along Kirkman Road on the way to the Florida Mall.
Comparing against UK prices, DVDs were more expensive (and Region 1 remember). Blank media, etc was cheaper, as were clothes.
Of course the discount outlets such as Nike, were also cheaper.
If only we could also import the petrol. Was $1.99 per gallon.

I was looking out for an iPod. You can save about £20 on UK prices, but remember that the plug with be a US one. This means you'll need to buy a convertor for about £15, so overall, the savings will be small.

Not much of a saving on the 1Gb version only appx £7.00, but the 20Gb you will save appx £60.00-70.00 on UK priceAlthough the Shuffles don't come with mains adapters anyway, so they're no different to the UK ones. But I believe the UK-spec iPods of all flavours are volume-limited due to regulations about causing hearing damage.
Furthermore, if you do end up with a US charger you'll find that the US plug bit plugs into a little figure-of-eight Telefunken socket on the charger. You just need a lead with that plug on the end -- it's the same as the one they use to power portable radios and laptops.

So basically any American name brands and anything from Walmart are still going to be good value. :cool1:
Good job we opted for the double baggage allowance :rotfl2:
Is the Walmart on S353 fully open and is it better than the one on the 192??????? :confused3

we got the photo I pod which is great
all we used is the adapter for an usa plug
but we mostly charge it up from the laptop
no need for the £15 convertor
Diesel trainers, Gap and Levi Jeans, French Connection at Premium Outlets, all highly recommended by me and I have style. ;)
Is that a bit cocky for a first post? And why can't I see the members list either?

Yes, the SR535 Walmart opened on Memorial Weekend. Bigger than the US192 Walmart, but not much change as regards availability of stock.

I always make sure I bring back a bottle or six of Jack Daniels, the green label, single barrel, and other various limited edition bottles that are impossible to get over here. I always panic when approaching customs regarding what I've brought back and two minutes later, after walking through customs unmolested I'm always gutted that I didn't get more!

How would this overcome the voltage difference - US 120v UK 240v ?
Is there a switch on the transformer?
carl_w
06-21-2005, 03:17 PM
The iPod itself probably runs on 3.3V or 5V, so there's a transformer in the plug bit. They just make one that copes with anything between 100 and 250V input, and have different plugs on the end. Most computer stuff is like this. Annoyingly, though, I have half a dozen Nokia chargers but only *one* copes with 100-250V input. Needless to say, when I got to Orlando I realized I had one of the others with me :(

At Premium Outlets you can get silk ties from Armani, Burbery& Boss for about $40 which is about £22. They are all exellent quality & just a few pounds more than the Next or M&S equivalent.
Its also dependant on your size. My wife is a 'small', in Nike she got 3 very nice golf polo shirts for $25. I have since seen them in American Golf over here for £40 each.
Oh & lastly I always buy loads of packs of flossing sticks. They are about £2 in Boots. In WalMart I paid 59cts a pack.

Back when I first went, in '96, it was bargains galore...pretty much everything was cheaper than over here....nowadays, with the advent of Internet shopping and cut-throat competition brought on by the power of the supermarkets, the bargains in Florida are tougher to find.
Definitely NOT cheaper now are Digital Camera's, Camcorders and Laptops.....all of which are near enough the same price now in the UK (more so digital cameras, which dont attract import duty). I wouldnt buy any of the above in the US now, not just because they arent any cheaper, but also from a warranty and ease of return should they develop a problem. (I read from time to time that walmart goods can be returned to asda, but ive yet to see anyone actualy do so, is this an urban myth ?).
Sportswear can be cheaper if you go to the right place (ie not Footlocker). The outlet shops for Adidas, Nike, Reebok are all pretty cheap, but then we have similar in the likes of Freeport in the Uk, and I would say the main advantage now is the ranges tend to be newer over there. I normaly don't buy stuff over here and buy a years worth when I go out.
Video game consoles are pretty much always cheaper over there and often released earlier than the UK, such as the Sony PSP. There can be regional issues though.
