I just read where members book at their home resort at 11 months then call at 7 months to try and switch to another DVC resort. Can you do this without penality? Is it as simple as it sounds? I have been a member since 95 and did not know you could do this!! Please explain!

You can always make one ressie and then cancel later and make different one; thus it is allowed and used often.

There is no real downside or penalty for changing resorts if available.
There is one issue to be careful of here....if you switch a reservation which will require fewer points and are within 30 days, the "extra" points will have to go into a holding account. If the same thing happens more than 30 days before, there is no problem- the extra points will just be returned to your account and may be banked (subject to regular banking deadlines).
Enjoy!

I had reserved 7 nights at BWV for February. We have since decided to try VB, so last week I called and got 2 nights at VB and changed our BWV to 5 nights.
MS was excellent at doing this. It only took about 3 minutes on the phone (not counting the hold time of about 5 minutes).
We are looking forward to trying VB for the first time!

I just did the same, switching from BWV to VWL. No problem. They knew exactly what I wanted to do.

This was one of my top 10 questions I asked when considering to purchase DVC. I wanted to be assured a room at the dates I wanted and then have the possibility of changing resorts if I wanted. They said that is the exact way to go about doing it.
