From Webmasteralex- Before posting on this thread please try the following:
Make your post with a VERY short title, like "hello" and after it posts edit the title. It has worked for most people

I have tried to post a new thread twice on the theme parks board and can't find them....

The title was:
"1st Time Touring in February (1st Time w/o Kids Too!)...Help!"

Are they someplace else and I just can't find? Did I do something wrong?

TXTink
06-13-2005, 11:07 AM
OK....I tried to repost the same thread again on the parks board and it told me this was a duplicate post..... I still can't find it! So, I did a search and it didn't find it either. What am I doing wrong? Anyone? ...please...

I'm looking... :confused3 :scratchin

We had a similar problem with a couple of people last week, and clearing their cookies seemed to help.

Try this: On the Internet Explorer toolbar, click TOOLS, then INTERNET OPTIONS, then DELETE COOKIES. Close IE, then start it again and log onto the DISboards.

Can you post your thread now?

TXTink
06-13-2005, 12:00 PM
Thank you WebmasterKathy!! :flower: I deleted my cookies and files then tried to re-post. It said it was a duplicate again..... Maybe I should change the title and try again? I don't want to be a "double poster"!!

Thank you for helping!!

TXTink
06-13-2005, 12:01 PM
oooops! I didn't see you suggest to close the internet and reopen the DIS! I will try that now! BRB!

TXTink
06-13-2005, 12:11 PM
OK! It's official.....I'm a moron! I still can't get it to post....I think I will try changing the title.....

It's amazing I have managed to post what few times I have...... being a computer illiterate and all!! :p

WebmasterKathy
06-13-2005, 12:21 PM
Well, heck.

Tink, how about we try this: post your thread HERE, on the Tech Board, complete with the thread title you tried to use, and I'll move it to the Theme Parks board.

Let's see if I get any error messages or anything that might help figure out the problem...

TXTink
06-13-2005, 12:36 PM
Thanks!! I really appreciate it! I tried to change the title and it still wouldn't go! Good grief! Leave it to me! I would just give up, but I would really like some touring help!

Thanks again Kathy!! :goodvibes

OK! Here goes!!

WebmasterKathy
06-13-2005, 01:02 PM
So very odd...

Can you start ANY other thread on this board now? Or can you start a TEST thread on the Theme Parks board?

(I wonder if there's something in the title of the thread that's making it act flaky... a special character that's tripping it up or something odd like that...)

TXTink
06-13-2005, 01:28 PM
Hummm...I don't know. :confused3 Let me change a few things and try again.

Here was the second try title of what I was trying to post: Help with Touring in February (1st Time w/o Kids!)

Maybe I will take the number and parenthesis out....

Ok! I'm off to try again! Wish me luck! :sunny:

TXTink
06-13-2005, 01:37 PM
Thank you!! I just got it to post! :Pinkbounc Maybe it was something I had in my original titles..??

Well, it only took me half the day to post a thread on the DIS  .....Now watch, no one will have anything to say to me! :o

Thanks for all your help and listening through all my frustration!! :wave2:

WebmasterKathy
06-13-2005, 01:38 PM
I'm glad you got it posted... but I'm still puzzled about what could have caused the trouble. Hmmm... :confused3

TXTink
06-13-2005, 02:09 PM
I don't know either.....I did take out the "1st" and "w/o" and parenthesis. Maybe it was just too much junk in the title...??

I have been having trouble all last night and today. I get the duplicate thread notice sometimes and other times I get the technical difficulties screen that says please try to refresh or come back later. I have a lot of threads not showing up at all!

I'm having the same problem. My topic included a numeric - same as the OP - so I thought this may be the problem, but apparently not. I'm posting from my new Apple iBook and haven't yet worked out how to clear cookies!

Dan Murphy
06-14-2005, 04:28 PM
Strange. I just posted a thread on the CB. Went to review it, not there. I went back to my browser back button, it was there, I resubmitted, said it was a duplicate. I looked, not there. :scratchin

Wait, I'll go find him...

WebmasterKathy
06-14-2005, 07:14 PM
I've sent the Bat-Signal, now we'll see if Alex sees it. :teeth:

Interesting... The steps I'd suggest trying are

1) Clearing your cookies (the all-purpose, clear the cobwebs out solution)

2) Trying to post again, using no numeric or special characters in the title (just alpha)

3) Trying to post the same thread on a different board, like this one. (If you post your thread here on Tech Support and tell me what board you'd like it on, I'll be happy to move it.)

4) Keep yelling for Alex until we figure out if we have a database problem somewhere.

5) Chocolate helps a lot in times of stress. Trust me. ::yes::

Texan Mouseketeer
06-14-2005, 07:41 PM
Thanks Kathy! We cleared our cookies, can you believe we had over 1000 of them?? But, I tried again and keep getting the technical difficulties, contact the webmaster page...

Just grasping at straws, trying to get the post down to the very most vanilla format possible.

We're still investigating.

It would help if you could tell us a little about what you're seeing when this happens. Please tell us (here on this thread):

* Date and approx time you tried to post
* Which forum you tried to post to
* Any error messages you received

That could give us information that will help to narrow down the problem.

Dan Murphy
06-15-2005, 09:58 PM
Times and dates were shortly before the posts above.

The board was the CB

The error message was the one posted above, or a blank, white screen.

Another person on the CB was talking about the same problem on the Trip Report board.

Is there anything else I should try or do I just admit defeat let it go?

I've been having the same problem that everyone else here has been having. Either I get a error message that says "There seems to have been a slight problem with the The DIS Discussion Forums database." or it says that the post is a duplicate of one posted five minutes ago. The name of the post is "Meeko's Walt Disney World Trip December 2004- Part Two" and I've been trying to post it in the Trip Report Board with no sucess.

WebmasterAlex
06-19-2005, 10:20 PM

I'm having the same problem today and last night. I have copied in my report 6 times and it didn't work. Then I just did a shorter dining report. Didn't work. I've spent HOURS on this. Now, I've got to get to my laundry.

I've been having the same problem for the past week and a half. CB, doesn't matter what time of day (though it's always been between 11am and 6pm central), didn't matter the length. I'd either get the 'problem with the database' error or "this is a duplicate". I don't remember the title of the second one I tried, but the first one was "Time traveler's wife" -- so unless it's counting ' as a special character (which it might be), there's nothing too special about that. I might have had a :( in the second title, I don't recall.

I finally got one to post today. No special characters, just a-z.

I posted, had it never appear. I then posted it again, still did not appear. I posted the third time, and it told me I had already posted that message, but still nothing appeared.

Finally, the fourth time with the exact same message and title, it appeared.

I don't know what the difference was, other than it was later in the day...

Bill, if this situation is going to be sort of a permanent bug on the boards, would it be possible to put a sticky post on all the boards explaining how to go about making a post with the error? I see several posts a day on the CB from people confused as to how to make a post or frustration in making a post. And I assume that many just give up and stay silent, not able to make a post at all.

Mine started today. I can post to a thread that is already there but can't make a new thread.

Here's an amusing feature: I *did* read the first post on the thread for
a fix, and I *was* able to post using a short title. In fact, I simply
called it "short title" or something similar.

But now that I have edited the title, the "similar threads" at the bottom
of the thread are related to the *original* fake title, instead of the
new correct title. Since I originally called it "short title," I now have
"similar" threads being about "short sleeved shirts," "car titles," and
other unrelated topics!

Anyway, the work-around was very helpful. Thanks!

This has happened to me once yesterday and once today. If it happens again, I will try what is suggested in post #1.

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. Keep getting a message that it is a duplicate post. This has been happening for the past 3-4 days. I tried deleting cookies and that didn't help.

ETA: I was able to post finally with the one word title.

Now I am having problems too.
OK, tried the shorter title and then went back and edited it. It worked this time. Thanks!

Same with me. The "fix" worked.

Had the same issues, resolved by shortening title then editing.

Thanks

I had the same problem tonight with my post not showing up. I tried the "fix" and that fixed it.

Had been having the same problem....shorter title got me through. But what was bouncing was just a 25 character title (including spaces) - went to 10 and it worked but I think that limits how descriptive the title can be.

I thought I tried everything and that is the only thing that worked. Cleared cookies from the link in the FAQ, cleared cookies manually, cleared the history, rebooted, used another computer, created a new registration - nothing.

The solution on the first post should work: create the post with a very short title.

Once it's posted, you can edit the post to lengthen the title if you wish.
