The story in a nutshell:
We purchased a large resale that we will close on in the first week of October. We want to vacation, at Walt Disney World, as soon as possible after we take ownership of the points. Does anyone have an idea of what the status of reservations are? Or when do you think we will be able to "go home" for the first time??

You'll never really know until you call!

With a closing the first week in Oct, you will probably be in the DVC computer (and thus able to make a reservation) the following week. If your travel plans include flexibility, why not call MS then and just ask when is the next availability at any onsite DVC resort. You may be very pleasantly surprised.

The dynamics of DVC are such that there are reservation openings all the time.

Good Luck!

We are so ready to get back "home" it won't matter where we stay as long as we can get there! But the curiosity of finding out if there are rooms available is killing us.

Simply due to its size, OKW seems to be much easier to get short notice ressies on than BWV or VWL. Not if you're looking for a Grand Villa, but for a studio or 1 bedroom, you should probably be OK. But you can never tell until you can call. We bought from Disney, and had membership numbers about a month before we closed, and they told us that we could call and make ressies right away. It must be different for resales, since the previous owner still owns it right up until closing.

Well here's a bizarre question: Can the *current* owners of your points call up and make ressies for you? Who knows whether they'd be willing, or if you'd even want to ask them. I'm just curious if they *could*, since it's the same points.

This used to be possible, but DVC began cancelling all reservations for that contract when it was presented for sale. This effectively eliminates the possiblity that anything will change in the status of the account during the sale. The Title Insurance will ask DVC to certify the available points for the contract- so DVC won't allow any changes to be made after that time. This policy has been in effect for a couple of years now.

Thanks for the info. That's very interesting.
