Is Fort Wilderness worth a stop? What's there besides the resort and the restaurants?

Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground was opened in November of 1971. The resort has 784 mostly shaded campsites and 408 air conditioned Wilderness Homes and Cabins residing on more than 700 acres of lush vegetation and pine and cypress trees. It is not unusual to see wildlife such as rabbits, deer, armadillos, ducks, geese, and peacocks roaming the grounds. Below are the more frequently asked questions concerning this fabulous resort.

Is it worth a stop if you're staying elsewhere?

We were staying at Wilderness Lodge resort and hopped the boat over to the campgrounds for about an hour. It was something different to do. They had a petting zoo there so we spent some time feeding the animals. We enjoyed it. If you've never been there I'd say it's worth one trip.

I took the boat from MK to Ft. Wilderness on my last trip. On the way, I saw any eagle in flight about ten yards from the boat. Awe-inspiring! The buffet at Ft Wilderness is great. There is a hayride too.

WE love THE FORT !!!!! This has to be the cleanest camp ground in eastern US ,and so much for your family to do without leaving and going anywhere else.Fort wilderness is my home away from home.Let your Figment be tour guide as to what you can do at the Fort! From rideing horses to renting boats to speed around in ,But of course you could do nothing and sit around the camp fire and sing songs or even watch a free movie with chip and dale.
