View Full Version : A Tip about water bottles and the Dining Plan

We just came back from a wonderful vacation at CBR. We LOVED the dining plan and wanted to share this tip with everyone.

The first day we purchased the refillable mugs. With the dining plan you get drinks so whenever we had a counter service meal at our resort. We used our refillable mugs to drink with our meal but also got water bottles as the drink with the counter service meal. Our room had a fridge so we would store the water bottles in the fridge to keep them cold and then take a couple of bottles with us to the parks. It worked out great.

Another good tip is to buy crystal light "on the go". Little water bottle size packets to put in the water bottles. If your water runs out fill up at a water fountain, add the crystal light and it makes FL water drinkable. We also filled up the empty bottles with the crystal light at night, put it in the fridge so when you woke up you had something to drink other than water before you left the room to go to breakfast.

Sorry if this tip has already been posted. I am new here...it worked out great for us and just thought I would share. :flower:

Take Care,

Loralie

Check your local Walmart store. Our wal-marts here carry a few asiles of food items and I found the crystal light ones and the wal-mart brand ones there.

Target also has their brand of the crystal light on the gos. Tea and rasberry lemonaid was what we chose for our upcoming trip.

How did you take the water bottles to the park? Did you use a backpack, fanny pack, some sort of pack with a water bottle holder/net? I have only bought a fanny pack so far, and it is kind of small, but the store where I got it had a pack with two pouches for water - thought that was kind of too big, though.

Sort of off topic but...

Maybe it's just me, but for some reason I found that the tap water in WDW actually tasted ALOT better this year than it did last year. Maybe it was just me...who knows?! :earsboy:

I personally had a small fanny pack and it did have a net for 1 bottle of water. We also had with us a backpack so the other bottle of water and the crystal light was kept in there along with some snacks for the kids. I also kept in the backpack their autograph books and pen. The fanny pack was small but I held in there the room keys that had the tickets and dining plan, a little cash, a small hairbrush some gum. I think that was it. :flower:

Have fun,

Thank you for this tip!! We leave tonight for FL (arrive in Disney Sat morning after doing some other touring on the way) and I planned on buying the refillable mugs even though we have the dining plan. NEVER would've thought about getting the bottled water though! :flower:
Last trip, we carried bottled water in our backpack and it worked out great. That's what we'll do again - thanks to your tip! :goodvibes

Are the refillable mugs you buy at the resort good for the park too? I thought I read it was only good for free refills at the resort itself? If its good for in the park--how much are refills?

Is there a crystal light on the go type thing that does NOT have aspartame(Nutrasweet) in it? There are those of us who get TERRIBLE migraines from that particular chemical.

Is there anything like that which is sweetened with Splenda?

The crystal light packets are great for myself, but i also heard that snapple is coming out with these "to go packets" so keep and eye out for these. i also believe koola-aid has them to...not positive though. :sunny:

This may make me seem uber-cheap { } but in the past I have taken one or two of those little single serve Splenda packets and one of those small packets of lemon juice (those single serve condiment sized packets) and used that to add to a bottle of water, and it tasted fine (to me anyway) :sunny:

OMG I love that tip. I am leary of spenda though because I get such a headache from artificial sweetners. I bet I would walk off all the calories from a real sugar packet.

For those of us who love tea... Lipton has a tea with lemon individual pack like the crystal light. I saw them at Target this week!

we took one of the Britta bottles with us. We had a backpack that had the normal stuff in it and did not want the bottle condensate in the pack. Take a swift tie put only tight enough for it not to slip off. get one of those hook things that look like rope climbers use (wal-mart 2 for .98). hook it to the tie and then clip it to your backpack, belt, beltloop anything. If you take your own bottle make sure the opening is large( to put ice in) any counter service person will give you Free ice or ice water, we usually got ice so it could melt and ti mould last about a hour to hour and a half before getting hot! just my .02$ :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:

Have you seen the individual packets of kool-aid. We drink alot of this. I can't use the crystal light because of the aspartane it gives me migraines. I hope they do come out with koolaid individual packets.

I get migraines from artificial sweeteners also, so I found a small package of Gatorade mix and took that. It isn't pre-measured for a bottle of water, but it is small and you can add what you want to the bottle, and then just clip the rest shut. It was by the Kool-Aid packets at Walmart.

Also, I had never been to WDW before I went in May, and I didn't find the water to be as bad as I was expecting it to be.

YES! (if you like iced tea)

4C makes on the go packs in tea w lemon, raspberry tea, decaf tea and green tea with honey all sweetened with SPLENDA!

Since I avoid aspartame, too, I love these guys!

I got mine in larger packs at Sam's Club.

they come in different colors but the most popular are white and black. They are a strip of plastic that has ridges on one side and a head on one end that you put the other end thru and it catches on the ridges and will not come back off. You will see them on wires and some department stores use them to hang the price tag with. Ever took something home that had a tag on it and you could get the (thing) that was holding the tag to get smaller but it would not go the other way and open up. Not really a good description but I just dont know how to describe it.

Actually it's a very good description. In NJ we call them zipties (at least by me) I have heard of them being used in lieu of handcuffs, too! I can vouch that my students in hs have used them to tie kids' backpacks to desks as well. They hold *very* well. ;)

4c is just a brand of tea. Check your local supermarket, perhaps you may not have that brand where you live, if not then see if you have something comparable... worth the investigation... really yummy!! ;)

We did last time we went, but it has been 4 years. I frequently asked for ice and then filled the mug with hot coffee and made iced coffee.

Isn't Splenda supposed to be a special formulation of real sugar? I thought I saw that somewhere - so it wouldn't be considered an artificial sweetener.

Splenda is chemically altered sugar.

This is sort of OT, but not everyone does okay on Splenda: http://www.mercola.com/2000/dec/3/sucralose_dangers.htm# (I take stuff this site says with a grain of salt)

I drink it in my coffee every morning, but I'm kind of wondering if I should... I guess coffee isn't that great for you either

Splenda is sugar that undergoes a chemical process so the carbohydrate calories are removed. It is not artificial. It is sugar without the calories. It should not give you a headache and it mixes well with everything. That explains why it is more expensive than sweet n low, sugar, and that blue stuff (Equal, I think).

Splenda also has no aftertaste what-so-ever. Splenda is the perfect food product. Too many carbohydrates in drinks is a big reason why so many people are overweight. (Opps - got carried away)!

Have fun!

I cannot stand the taste of that Danasi water Disney sells, but since they have the contract with Coke, I guess they have to sell the Coke products. How I long for the days when they sold Zephier Hills water. (sp) So, even with the bottled water, I'd have to change the flavour. We will have the dining plan. What else is allowed in the food courts or counter service for beverages, besides pop and coffee and tea?

I put 1/4 cup in one 12 ounce insulated water bottle. I carry the rest in a container. I also bring a large thermos to mix up a gallon to take to the pool and to keep in the room. Children are always thirsty!

I just found the 4C packets at my local Sam's Club, and they had rasberry flavored packets along with the tea. I have not tried them yet, but I am thinking that they are like the Rasberry Ice from Crystal light. These are made with splenda just like their tea mixes.

I'm allergic to aspartame myself. The only kind of powdered drink mix that I have found that has splenda is the carb option teas and Atkins brand.

Another alternative to the crystal light on the go is gatorade 1 quart mix powder packets. My family prefers Gatorade to water (and in August, so do I). I just order some in bulk from a sports website for $15.50 for 24 mix packets. There was $5 shipping fee. I got 2 flavors, 48 total. So that's just $.75 per quart. I also bought a $1.97 34 oz screw top bottle from Walmart to mix in. Now I do not have to lug around bottles of gatorade for the family. I can mix as needed. To find sellers just google "gatorade 1 quart mix".
