Can someone explain to me what the free dining plan is all about? How does it work? Do you get a certain amount of vouchers or something?

I know you have to be sent a PIN code to get it.

califred
05-31-2005, 12:49 PM
If you have the pin attatched to your name you basically pay rack rate for your room and regular price for the tickets and get the MYW dining plan free.

The dining plan includes one counter service meal, one snack, and one table service meal per day (ts includes app, entree and desert) the plan also pays tax and tip. All the meals for your party are pooled together and can be used in any way you wish up until midnight on the day you check out.

If you want more info see the Dining Plan FAQ thread in the Restaurant forum!

Have a great day!

I meant to add that's one of each per night you stay per person in your room :)

I just read that too!! It says to check back tomorrow for more info. I just hope and pray the same offer will be made for the rest of the year! I'm almost tempted to change my dates just to make sure I get to take advantage of the offer. Hmmmm..... :scratchin

Is this something any travel agent can take advantage of or would I have to go through someone else?

I ask this because my trip is actually going to be finalized in the next few hours, and when I told her about the site and all she knew nothing about this, but if I can get her more info let her know. I can wait less than 24 hours to take advantage of this!!!!!!!

This is me, doing my happy dance. I have my ressies all booked and just need to attach that code tomorrow. I am going to be so sad if the rumor is not true. But I trust Mary and someone else said a travel agent confirmed the info...

In classic Disney budget style I will use this code to "save money" by adding 4 nights to the week we had planned. DH loves the way I save money :rotfl:

I would bet that any travel agent can take advantage of it. Disney doesn't make special offers only to one agency and I can't imagine that the commission on a 5 night pacakage at a value resort would be enough for an individual agency to make that offer on their own (IE to pay for your dining for you out of their pocket to entice you to book with them). So I would bet it is an offer that will be available to any travel agent.

I just read somewhere else on the boards that someone was told by a CM that this offer will be for Fla residents only. :confused3 Of course you know how often the info they give turns out to be wrong!

You can apply the code :goodvibes It has always been the way I used codes, I book first to get my dates and rooms exactly as I want them, then I call back and they apply the code! Just to be extra safe I always double check if this is true. Yesterday I was told, yep if you get a PIN or CODE you can apply it to this resservation and we just lower the total due   If you are paid in full you get a credit back, and if it is less than 45 days you have to pay $50 to make the change.

I'm sure that the AP code and free dining can't be combined because it is on packages booked at rack rates. Now I'm wondering how this will work out if you got a really good room deal? Are you better off keeping the cheaper room or getting the free dining???

The tickets are just about a "wash" in my view. Whether you are better off with free dining or a cheaper room varies on whether you were staying value or deluxe to begin with (free dining is much better deal on value/moderate stays since you are paying rack rate), how long you are stayin, and how economical you'd want to try to eat.

I found that montrose travel site this weekend while doing a search for the dining plan. So that has been there for a few days.

About the tix thing, it is such an individual deal, as any part of your vacation is. We are a family of six so If I can get tix $30 cheaper or whatever, multiplied by six it is a huge savings. I figure if we get free dining, I'll get 1 day base tix and use it this trip, then I'll purchase longer non exp hopper tix that I can save for another day, leverage to dh to go back. Plus the dining makes a huge difference trying to feed a family of 6!!

I am totally pumped and hope it is true!!

AP vs Dining for free

The AP discount on Deluxe is $70 a night, I think it is $45 for Mod and $18 for value (mousesavers has it posted). The dining plan is easily worth what they charge for it ($35 adult, $10 child), I think more but it depends on how you eat.

2 adults and 2 children easily save more at a value and mod, and I will argue that if you are staying at a deluxe you spend more than $70 a day on food. One sit down for an average family is more than that w/tax and tip.

Of course if you already have the AP, the real question would be, can you save the one day ticket you have to buy to make it a package untill you can use it?

might be a silly question, but can you use the code through AAA, or is it only through certain travel agencies?

I have been hinting (okay, so it's obvious, not a hint, lol) to dh that Disney would be perfect for our anniversary, so the free dining might be the cincher :goodvibes :cloud9: that convinces him it's perfecto :teeth:

Wondering if I should book now with a room only and try to add the code tomorrow? can one add it solo, or is this code TA exclusive where i have to book through TA to get the code?

I saw this and called my AAA agent immediately. She confirmed that she recieved notice of this from disney this afternoon. She tried to book it for me but they can not do it till tomorrow because it is not in dineys system yet. She is thinking she is going to be able to still use the AAA package rate for me too :cool1: We will find out tomorrow morning for sure.

you have to stay in a value resort to take advantage of this offer. Maybe it will be different tomorrow, but that's what I've read/seen in other discussions. We'll know for sure in the a.m. That works for us since one DS wants to stay at All-Star Sports and the other wants to stay at Pop Century. I hope my TA gets to work early tomorrow so I can add the code and additional days to my ressie! :cool1:

Where do people get this info? Everything I have read has said the same thing GC, 5 nights or more, through Oct 4th. I can't remember ever getting a code that was Value Resort only, and that would make no sense at all. Just wonder what gossip mills I am missing out on

It is for all resorts, and for 3-10 nights. The lead advertising is for a 5 night package at the value resorts, but it is available at other resorts and for other lengths of stay.

I'm a TA so I was booking it for several different clients at different resorts. I didn't have anyone in values for this deal but at POFQ, POR, CS, WL, AKL and BC it worked out no problem! And yes, it did work out to free dining! :goodvibes One particular family has 2 teenagers and was staying 9 nights so for 4 adults on the meal plan that is $140 per day times 9 nights it saved them $1260. Considering that I didn't contact them yesterday and say it was coming out, I just applied the code today and called to say "GUESS WHAT?!?" they were pretty shocked...but in a very good way! :rotfl: I love making calls like that! :wizard:

So does this mean I can book a room at a value resort for 7 nights for my 2 adult kids and 2 junior kids. Pay for one day tickets for each and get the dining for free. I did the math and it's about $860. I will cancel my current reservation for them if this is the case. I have a CM other guest room for them and it would end up costing $492 more for 4 tickets and 4 of them to eat for 7 days.

After I posted that question I saw you were a travel agent. I read about this yesterday and did the math for the Poly. Then today I saw some sample prices and when I went to disneyworld.com and did the pricing as a package, it was still coming up $400.00 more than what it should have been (I followed a link from a thread here for the sample pricing). Anyway to make a long story short it did work out as I had projected at the Poly and we have the package!!

Right now we have both our rooms under the AP rate at the Coronado. We will be in the parks 5 days but staying 7 nights. So if he were to buy a 5 day ticket would that mean he only gets the meal plan for 5 nights or all 7??

Go to the Disney website and you can play with how much the package will be for rooms/tickets. For us, two adults at a Moderate the difference between a 5 day ticket and a 7 day ticket was seriously $6!!!!! That is because they "reward" longer stays. I've heard it both ways, that you can get a one day ticket and your meals are the number of nights you are staying, and that your meals are the number of days you have park tickets. But with the VERY SMALL difference b/w a 5 day pass and a 7 day pass, why not just get the 7 day? Then, if they want to head to a park just for dinner, they are fine.

****

Oops - wrote the above before I noticed the thing about the AP rate. You can't combine AP rate & the dining add on!! AP rate is for room-only.... If he wants the meal plan, he'd have to get the whole package - room + tickets and room at rack rate. That would nto really make sense for them to be on the dining plan and you would not be??

All 7 nights would have the free dining plan! Is the discount with AP more than they would spend on food normally? or less? That is the real test. The Dining plan is sold for $35 a night pp. I can't image eating more than 1 TS and 1 CS in a day. For us it was a no brainer because we have 2 kids, and it is a great deal for them. With just 2 adults it really is a closer call. It is a great excuse to try out new TS places and order dessert :) but the savings might not be much from what he would have spent.

I think, love food and like TS in WDW=Dining plan best deal

Rather eat at the food and wine festival and not into spending 2 hours on a meal at WDW=AP code better deal

"Helpful hint for those who already have tickets or Annual Passes: This package is just like regular Magic Your Way packages in that the minimum ticket length is only ONE day! So you could even book a 10-night package with 10 days of FREE dining plan and a 1-day ticket. Because of this, it may be worthwhile to consider the Free Dining package even if you already have tickets."

Does this 1-day ticket have to be purchased for everyone in the group. For instance, we have AP's and want to do the dining package thing. I order 1-day tickets for all three of us and get the package rate and the dining free and use our AP's for the other days that we are there. Is this what you are saying?

I was just about to post the samething! If she won't get the code applied for you, tell her you are going to cancel and go with another agent. There shouldn't be any penalty for cancelling unless you are 90 days or less away from your arrival date! It is an awful lot of $$ to say "oh well" about! I would even call Disneydirect and get your dates/resort pacakge price to have as a backup (you can put the ressie on hold for a day or two!)

This happened to friends of ours last year. They were going the same time as us and a code came out. I told her about it and told her to call her TA right away. I called to follow up with her to make sure she had done it and ask her how much she saved and she said, "TA said we are not eligible". They were. We are such a concerned helpful group :grouphug: but I PM'ed her the same thing right after that post was made. She booked a 3rd party discounted package with air, through Jet Blue. I have read one or two others say if your package includes air you can't rebook to get the code because you already have a discount and you can't cancel the air portion w/o big fees.

If you are a TA and know this to be untrue please post, but I think she is right. :guilty:
