There have been a TON of questions about the transfers. Although I've only used the light transfer paper, I've carefully read all the responses so I'd like to summerize it all...trying to be helpful.

There are two types of transfer paper...light transfer paper for light colored shirts and dark transfer paper for placing images on darker shirts.

So far I haven't heard anything about price equating with quality. Alot of people use avery, I myself have used this brand...it works fine. You can buy it at wal-mart, office supply stores, and ebay.

Make sure you print your image in reverse so that words will not be backwards in the end product. Some imaging programs will have a menu where you can choose "transfer" or "mirror image". I have the option in both printshop 15 and in the printer menu for my Lexmark. Look under options or under the help menu.

Practice printing it on plain paper to make sure the size and COLORS are what you expect. You may also want to do a test iron-on with some scrap fabric so as not to waste precious tshirts.

Beware that white spaces will print blank with light transfer paper. Meaning, if you put donald duck on a pink shirt with light paper, he will have pink feathers. Most non-commercial printers won't print white. Of course, if you're determined NOT to use dark paper and you are using a nonwhite light colored shirt, a print store may be able to do the printing for you. Does anyone know if Ginkos has white ink in their printers? However, you can avoid this by using dark paper. Some people have complained about the texture. I've heard it called "rubbery". Remember, though, even commercially printed dark tees tend to have a slick/rubber feel to them. If you really want a darker/brighter tshirt (especially if you have kids and white is NOT an option) don't automatically discount the dark transfer b/c you're afraid of the texture. I imagine that if you're doing a very large image it could make a large area of your shirt stiff which could lead to some discomfort. With dark transfer paper, white AND clear spaces will be white. If this bothers you I have a suggestion. An earlier poster created an image of tinkerbell on a white background but she was putting the image on a lime green shirt. She found a color on her pallette that printed in a near matching shade and made the background that color. You could see a slight rectangular shape on the shirt where the edges of the transfer were but it was such a close color match, I think it looked great.

As for tshirt quality, I bought a package of white undershirts from the mens department at walmart one year....avoid doing this for women...bras show thru! The only time shirts have to be 100% cotton is if you're tie-dying. I think any blend can be used for transfers. MAKE SURE TO WASH IT FIRST. You don't want the shirt to shrink after you've done the tranfer.

Follow the tranfer sheet directions to the letter. If directions are lacking, I'd consider purchasing a different brand. Generic directions: USE A HARD SURFACE. I wouldn't do it on a glass table but glass top stoves seem to work well. I personally prefer and ironing board (call me old fashioned). Use the hottest setting....and press hard! Put your weight into it...but don't break the stove. I like using my ironing board on the floor. After a few minutes I test the corner to see if it pulls away easily. If not I put it down and run the iron over it for a few more minutes. If it peels off easily but you hit a spot that won't budge...just reheat it. I've seen a question about ironing in circles or corner to corner...just do a section at a time...top to bottom or bottom to top...doesn't matter where you start as long as you do each secition in order (as in, do one corner, then the diagonal corner then the middle and you might wind up with a gap and therefore a bubble or wrinkle.) I think once you've thouroghly heated the whole thing, its safe to do circles.

Ok..think I've covered it all. Let me know if I left anything out. :flower:

I do have reservations for Poly concierge in October. :cool1: The ME folks should be able to deliver us to correct resort. I think it would be great fun to go up to the ME desk and say "guess where we're headed...". :rotfl2: Only problem is I've already got a Dash shirt for DS and we're planning on MGM on arrival day so I want DS to see Incredibles with Dash shirt. Guess he'll be changing at the resort before we head out to the parks.
lovesdumbo - OT but I think I read on the Boards that the Incredibles were leaving MGM so Chicken Little could come in at the end of the animation tour. You may want to try and track them down.

Anyways...LOVE your new sig. You should go to www.v50.net to get the days/hour/minute countdown clock.

I just ordered some photos from photobox - proofs of my wedding invitations - and I had some spare credit so I just ordered MidNite's first 3d image - the one with Out of this world on? It came out really clear and crisp and looked just like a postcard! I'm thinking of printing a batch before I go and writing people's addresses on the back - then writing a message while I'm in WDW and posting them...

It might work with some of the other images that everyone has created too.

hope you don't mind Midnite :0)

Fantastic Tips! Last night I saw transfer paper at Sam's 14.99 for 20 sheets. Said it was for light, cotton blend shirts-cold transfer. Do you know what a cold transfer is? Does this refer to not having to use an iron? I didn't get them, because I wasn't sure what this ment and the package had no explaination.

:rotfl2: I wish on the rich part...(never want to be famous). My DH was earning what it would have cost for daycare and I was earning more than him. It does help that we were married for 15+ years before we had children so we saved then. We also don't do much at home so we like to enjoy our vacation. My August is a totally unplanned spur of the moment thing and will be "somewhat" cheap. $330 for air for me & DS and $200 for room plus food. I really think this time with DS is important.

Back OT---the Avery paper tells you to let it cool before you remove the paper-so you don't have to burn your fingers taking the paper off-maybe that is what they mean by "cold transfer"? Can't imagine no iron. I did notice in a flyer that BJ's has them too. On the avery paper I cut around my image and the "border" that I left-without anything printed on it-is a bit cream looking. You can see it if you look real close at the white T but not from a distance.

Midnight-hate to ask because it really is great the way it is but could you use that All Star Movies logo that triplefigs found rather than the generic All Star logo on the All Star Movies design?

Tracy-great designs! How fun for your kids to wear shirts they designed!

OK all you creative types, I need some help, I can get a #10 baby out of a 5foot tall woman but this I cannot do (I am an L&D nurse). I need some suggestions and help. I am sure this has been answered before, but I cannot find the answers. So I am going to number them and cross my fingers.

1. Where do you find CLEAR clip art????
2. What programs are you using?
3. What are the best quality transferrs to use?

My DH is an IT guy so with his help I can figure out something if I have the answers to these questions.
Also for anyone who has the time or some cute suggestions I am looking to make a few shirts. One just for our family vacation--I think I can handle that one with all the great stuff you have provided. I also want to make one for myself for my birthday. We are going to be in WDW for my birthday. Waht is really fun is that I am exactly the same age as WDW. Two really great things happened the 1st week of October 1971, WDW opens-1st I was born 5th. Just thought it was funny and that my mom would too. she is traveling with us. Third we went 10 years ago with my exteded family and after the fact found out that my DBil wanted to ride Dumbo and we did not. He remembers seeing pictures of it as a kid and thinking that was the thing to do. So I would really like to make him a Dumbo or die shirt or something to that effect. I am not expecting anyone to waste their time on my dreams I was just wondering if anyone had any great suggestions. Also I am still looking for answers to the first three questions.

I know this is about t-shirts, but will someone help me with an invitation. We have a breakfast booked at CRT on August 23 at 10:20 and I have three daughters Ashley, 11, Bryanna 4, and Zoe 2. I might add that this is really all for Bryanna who just loves Cinderella. But I want the invitation to say something about Cinderella is inviting them to her castle to be breakfast and than also and that her friend snow white had an extra dress and wanted Bryanna to have it in case she wanted to dress like a princess also. Bryanna was just in Awe of the pay it forward post-card, that I just think this will be unbelievable.

I might add Ashley just thinks her mother is crazy

I downloaded the free trial of photoimpact 10. Took me days and days of trying and asking questions on this board. Took my kids two minutes. Kids now a days know more about this kind of stuff than I ever could. By the way the way she did the background for the prince one was by going into the tab that says effects, then going to lighting and from their clicking on the kaleidoscope button and choosing a design from there. She added the graphics and text and then added stars from the special effects or particle gallery (its one of them).

I can work on the Cinderella invite -

since it was brought up - my kids get a Mickey note every day at Disney with an invitation for the day's activities or a good night from a character and there is always a little treat with them - the last time I went I made about 20 of them - does anyone want to see them?

Kate don't you dare go running off on us!!! :teeth: I'm sure that we can come up with more design requests to keep you busy and make you feel wanted around here. :) For instance, I've been really wracking my brain to come up with another good shirt design for my 14 yo son. It's so hard you know to get boys that age to be excited about Disney b/c it's so NOT cool. Okay, so he's really into German stuff....did exceptionally well in his 8th grade German class and won the class award for it last year. He's planning on 4 more years of it in H.S. When he plays Xbox, he plays with guys in Germany and speaks IN GERMAN to them over the headset. So anyway, he is really excited about spending his whole day in Epcot, hanging out with the German CM's who work there and talking to them all day. Of course he's hoping that some of them will be cute little German GIRLS. LOL. So that's why I was wanting the Mickey Mouse in Lederhosen, which I did get a pretty good image emailed to me, but now I don't know what to do with it. German flag colors are red, yellow, and black...there are lots of nice pictures of the German pavilion in Epcot....I just don't know how to tie it all together to make a nice shirt for him. any ideas? anyone? Bueller? Bueller? :teeth:

How about, my daughters are princesses so I guess that makes me a queen!
Sorry, I read that in another DISer's siggie...thought it was really cute. princess:
On a similar vein, was out shopping and saw this phrase at a local airbrush t-shirt shop. Thought it would make a unique WDW shirt! It had a beautifully done text of the word Princess (pink w/silver accents and stars) with a large black X over the top of it. Underneath it read. . .Forget Princess, I want to be Queen! The word Queen was of course larger and even more beautifully done.

By the way, PoohHappens is the funniest username!!! :rotfl:

Here is a photo of one of the five t-shirts I made for my husband's 40th birthday. Each shirt had three different photos of my husband when he was a baby. Since we went with his parents, my FIL had all pictures of him and my husband, my MIL had only her and my husband... you get the idea. Now let's hope that the loading of my first picture goes easier than the iron ons did!!!

That's us getting ready to be the grand marshals on his 40th birthday... his only birthday wish. Thank goodness for a lot of praying and a little pixie dust, and his dream did come true.

Kate - you have me in tears already this morning!!! I *loved* the card designs.....do you have them accessible on the internet anywhere yet? Rather than bother you with specific card requests, I could just grab the ones I want. What size card is the finished version? I have never done cards like these before, but I think Aurora would really be thrilled to get them. She's really into getting "mail" now....she writes letters back and forth with her Grandma who lives across the state. And you are so sweet to offer to work on the German design for my son, too. I will email you the image of Mickey in his Lederhosen, thank you so much.

Not to get OT, but, for the mousekeeping envelopes, how much $ do you generally leave? I researched on "proper tipping" and most of the advice I found was $1/day in less expensive hotels (staying at all-stars). I was still planning on leaving $2/day b/c I am going to ask mousekeeping to hide some "treats from tinkerbell" in the room each day. (read that tip on another thread...it cuts down on the "i wants" if they know there is something waiting for them in the hotel room....also no kicking and screaming over the mid day break!)

I professionally clean condos in the summertime. Most ppl won't leave a tip, so I have to say I appreciate any amount of $. I've even gotten excited over finding quarters in the couch cusions. :rotfl2: What frustrates me about condos is that most people "live" in them for about a week and there is no maid service DURING their stay...and very few of them will clean while they're there unless, say, they run out of clean cups/towels. Yet no tip. In addition to basic maid services (sheets/towels changed, bathrooms scrubbed, carpet vacuumed) I often had to do ALL the dishes, clean spills out of the fridge and burner pans (shrimp juice, ukk!) and scrape congealed food off the dining table. When my kids were babies and we went to a resturaunt and they made a big mess, I always tipped extra b/c I knew I was making more work for them then the average customer. OH well...done griping now.

I'm sure Kate will tell you what she did but if I were going to make them I would use card stock and make them 3 1/2 x 5 so that I could just print them from my photo program (I use PictureIt! by microsoft) and they have a template to print four 3 1/2 x 5 photos on a page. Or you could print two 5 x6 or 5x7 cards to a page.

Love the cards by the way!

Triplefigs, thank you for the Dumbo pattern, wow you are quick, I hope that did not take too much of your time. I didn't mean you had to do one.
Midnite, thank you for answering my questions, I have started to find some good clip art. I usuallyprint up and itinerary for our trip that I would love to add some of the clip art.

Here is my next question, I have contacted a friend of mine that I knowwas a graphic designer before her SAHM life. She has photoshop-yeah!!!!!!! So if I get together with her and show her this stuff will she know how o download it and hlp me make someshirts and cutomize a few things??????? She said she would help me, I just do not want to look stupid when she does or ask her to do something completely unreasonable. Thanks.

I had oher plans for our trip name but it may become operation dumbo now. ;) You would think a 40 something man would get over it, but he really wants to ride dumbo. We saw no point because it was an hour wait for a lame ride and he did not speak up. My DH said we should print that on a pink shirt and make him wear it. :Pinkbounc

Glad you like it. If you want me to change anything let me know. Oh, and JULIA and NICK's MOM had a cute shirt looking for uncle donald with a spy glass. That might be cute for Dumbo too. She could just put Dumbo in the middle of the spy glass. If you like her design better, she could put the same words on the shirt that I did. I know she'd be happy to help too.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a236/Steamboat123/DSC01949.jpg

All of our shirts came from Wal Mart, but my shirt (the one that you see the full back on) is not 100% cotton. It has a little spandex in it and it is from the "Just Your Size" section. I was worried about the spandex, but it was not problem. I have already washed the shirts and they faded a little, but not much. Overall I was quite happy.

I had the same problem. Do you use AOL? If so, AOL automatically compresses graphics files to enhance speed (I did not come up with this, I found it on a troubleshooting website so if it is not the exact explaination, please no flames!) I guess that's where the .art comes from. You have to go into AOL's Settings. If you have 9.0, view by category. Under Customize AOL click view all. Scroll down to How AOL Works and click on Browser Settings. Change the default to Never Compress Graphics. Once the change takes place and you right click on a image, you should see other graphic save options.

Hope this helps!
You don't know how you have just helped me. I could not figure out what the problem was and you solved it for me. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

MidNite - I am totally FREAKIN out over how cool your resort designs are!!!

Last night I was busy stealin, (is it stealin if you put it out there for all of us? :goodvibes ), some really cool stuff from yours and Julia&Nicks sites. You guys are so good to give your time and web space for all of us.

I uses MdiNites HM-MNSSHHP logo for my commando planning folder, and then one of J&Ns The Gang-MNSSHP for the packet for my mom!!!

I LOVED the Beach Club and Boardwalk. I am waitlisted for both, but currently have my ressie at SSR, so I can't wait to see your SSR.

Also, the Dolphin and GF are so spectacular that it makes me want to go stay there. DH LLLUUUVVVSSSS the Mission Space 3-d. WOWOWOW

Please please please tell us how you did this. What size are the pages? Did you just carry them loosely to have them signed, or what? Is it a Creative Memories book? How many did you make? One for every character, that sure would be a lot! You have great ideas!

SSR = Saratoga Springs Resort

Waitlisted most likely means she's a DVC (Disney Vacation Club) owner and while she has reservations at SSR, she REALLY wants to be at Beach Club or Boardwalk, so she's asked to be put on the waitlists there, just in case anything comes available. :)

I printed the scrapbook cards on a 6x6 piece of paper before I left - with the names and pictures

I carried them around with me in a plastic baggie with sharpies - I took them everywhere -once we got a signature it stayed in the room -

when I got home I then made the photo part with my digital pictures and printed them on the computer

Julia looks at it everyday

this last trip - I made the cards 4x6 and bought a Disney album that holds 4x6 photos - I put the card before the pictures of them signing them - this was the cheaper and easier route to go - but I LOVE the other one more - so for this trip we are going back to the 6x6 pages - I also bought a small clipboard for the pages - this helped the characters sign the pages

I used to sell them on ebay and have a program set up to merge the characters together with the names but the first time I did it - it took forever to find all the clipart - but so worth it!!! The characters also just loved the pages - they definatley increase character interaction!!

for the cards - I used them last year for the first time - Nick was one and Julia 3 - Nick may not have appreciated the cards - but he liked the presents!! :earboy2: and they will go in our scrapbook - notice I said will - I can do the computer stuff no problem - it is the scrapbooking I can't seem to sit down and do!

It definately breaks the ice - Julia isn't afraid of the characters (except the villians) but Genie was a little intimidating to her - but there was NO WAY she was going to leave without his autograph - it gave her the courage to talk to him!

Excuse me if I GUSH but...

JULIA AND NICKS MOM.....THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I love, love, love (did I say love yet?) the autograph book idea. My daughter has been returning every trip with an original disney autograph book thats not only full, but ratty. I put stickers of the characters in them b/c she couldn't read (well, now she can) and she loved to look at the autographs but couldn't remember which belonged to who. I've seen some scrapbooks where the scrappers ripped out autographs and added them to pages. Although I've been looking for a way to combine the two, I couldn't bear to take something that belongs to my daughter and tear it up. I really want something she can keep for herself and this is the PERFECT solution. I was also wondering if getting the autographs would help my son get over his fear of characters. The kid is SCARILY brave...he'll jump off anything and he's going nuts over the fact that he's tall enough to ride the rockin roller coaster this trip. However he won't approach the characters! (as of last year at least). He claims he's ready to "give mickey a hug" and I'm hoping this book will help him follow thru. I plan to do one for both of them. Oh and you answered all my questions...I was wondering about the clip board part..cardstock is pretty stiff but not that stiff...and the baggies are also an excellent idea. "Patrick, Your genius is showing."

This is the shirt I designed for ds's birthday last year. I thought I did well until I start seeing the shirts here! I am getting some great ideas for dd's birthday trip next year. You are all so talented!!!

I've never posted an image before, so I hope this works...

http://photobucket.com/albums/a190/bethbuchall/?action=view&current=MilesDisBdayshirt.jpg

By the way, this shirt didn't get a lot of attention except from Peter Pan who met us at the end of the Family Magic Tour. He loved the shirt and was thrilled that he and Tink were on it. I think there are two reasons the shirt didn't attract a lot of attention: 1. it is a little too busy and the birthday message doesn't really catch your eye, 2. he had his hair done with blue gel and pixie dust that morning at the MK barbershop, and that really got everyone's attention.

ETA: I guess you have to click on the link to see it...not sure what I did wrong, but at least it's accessible.

We made our own albums for the last trip (except for the then 13 y.o. ds who was too cool for an autograph album...until we got there, that is! We bought one for him practically first thing).

This is the best thread ever!

So, to make sure I understand how you did the autograph book.....you printed the pages with the 'Happy Birthday' and the date at the bottom along with a picture (clipart) of the character?? Then took along some without the clipart and added it after you got home??

How much would you charge?? ;) I know that doesn't sound like much to do but I know finding the clipart and figureing out which characters you might see......I think I would rather pay!!

On behalf of my family - we THANK YOU! I'm new to this website and you have already designed my dd Melanie a princess t-shirt graphic for her 6th birthday and I've already requested a Lilo & Stitch from you for her birthday dinner at O'hanas. We are leaving in 7 days and I want this to be such a super special birthday for her and I'm very grateful to you for helping me to add these extra special touches that will do that.

WOW - this thread keeps getting better and better each time I check in !!!! :earseek: In addition to a daily Birthday trip tshirt for DNeph, I'll now be putting together a birthday autograph book and daily notes !!! How much 'magic' can I make with your help ?!!

In thanking you all I want to share what our 'magical' trips mean to us - I have been lucky enough to have taken many trips to WDW while raising my own kids - almost all grown now, last one with 1 foot out the door. But in the last year the trips my little nephew and I have taken to WDW have given us great joy and something to focus on while grieving the tragic loss of his dad - it just means soooo much to me to have a 'happy place' that we can share where we can laugh and play and I can spoil him rotten with surprises that make him feel happy and special (and give my sis a little time to herself) - so thanks to all of you for sharing your wonderful ideas, work and love of Disney - you are truly 'passing it on' and we are covered in pixie dust! :wizard:

J&Nsmom - I'll be PMing you about the autograph cards - they are awesome! !!

Beiji-Love, Love,Love yout new sig!!! It would look great either as a t design alone or as an add on to a sleeve.

Disney store has the cutest green mickey head antennae balls. Not lime green, but close. They are blank, just the shape. I personalized mine with a black sharpie. Can you tell I am addicted?
Mrs. S., so glad you noticed! That's a great idea to put it on a sleeve. I could put "Yes, I am a DISer" on the other sleeve.
Wha ha ha ha. Silly human! You will be assimilated. . .resistance is futile.

Does anyone have a list of "common" characters you can find while in WDW? There must be a link, right...mabey I'll go check out Deb's site.

Triplefigs, love your design. Thought I'd mention, Disneyland is commonly written as a single word....at least on all the merchandise! It's funny how big the DL castle looks in pictures!!

Here's a great site to try for characters by Diser HugsForEeyore. She lists all the characters she's ever found, where and how easy/difficult they are to find:

That B&W shot of the castle is so gorgeous- I hope you don't mind I made a "people- free" version! Apologies to anyone whose family members were erased... ;) .

Sorry, off topic, but had to share. DH Mr. Moose just walked by and told me to "Get a life!"

(Remember, he has never been to Disney.) When we first planned the trip he asked me. . .it's just a theme park, right?

Wha ha ha ha. Silly human! You will be assimilated. . .resistance is futile. :teleport:

:rotfl2: We were watching TV one day and saw a comercial for some local amusement park and my DH asked why we didn't just go there and I told him "I don't like amusement parks." He just doesn't get that Disney is NOT an amusement park! My DH is a little slow and just started getting it on our last trip (his 3rd, 2nd with our kids). He actually said while waiting for the town car to pick us up to go back to the airport "this is kinda sad". I'm hopeful this time he'll really get it.

So it looks like our dates in August overlap. Do you have a T-shirt itinerary worked out yet? I'm still working on mine:
Sunday 8/28 arrive MCO 10:30am all wearing ASMovies T, go to MGM, Sci Fi @ 2:15

Monday 8/29 MK, 8:10am CP, me Tink, DS Buzz-To Disney T, DFriend's DH Thanks Walt T (to wear on Keys to the Kingdom tour).

Tuesday 8/30 Epcot (no T's yet....) Maybe Mission Mickey for DFriend's DH

Wednesday 8/31 we have a 6:30 flight home. Not sure if we'll do AK or go back to another park. Maybe Mickey fireworks for DFriend's DH.

me, DS, and DFriend have AP's. She wants to buy non hopping passes for her DH and DS(15-who probably won't wear any T I could make for him). Her DH is SOOOOO excited about this trip and I think the T's will be a nice way for me to thank him for letting her go on 4 trips with us while he stayed home.

Well, if you're going to erase them.... could you erase them in the color version too? I don't know how to do that... YET! :rotfl:Glad you liked it. I thought it came out brilliantly in b&w!

Melanie,

You should be able to copy it directly from the board. If not, PM me and I'll email it to you. I thought it turned out great. That's one of my favorite songs too!

Wow! These designs are just incredible!!!!

I can't decide what to do for our family----we are taking my mom and my grandma in March (first trip for both of them!!!!).

I thought about "4 generations of princesses" or something for grandma, mom, me, and DD, but that leaves out my DH and our 2 sons.

Any ideas???

4 generations of princesses with a few princes thrown in for good measure

The girls could have a shirt that said, "2nd Generation Princess" (or whichever number) and the boys could say the same only prince

I have a question for the people who are using PhotoImpact 10. When you open a new image for a shirt, what image size do you use?

You guys have ALL totally inspired me. Last night I ran out and bought a whole bunch of blank tshirts from Hobby Lobby, 4 pkgs of iron on transfers for our printer, and a printshop program!

Has anyone done anything tropical-ish? I would love to see them!!!! I love Midnite's Polynesian resort one and we'll probably do something with that on one shirt, but I'm SO not creative enough to figure out how to do this at all (I'm a banker and only work well with numbers, lol!)

Thanks in advance! :sunny:

Doesn't POFQ do sleigh rides also? Anyone have a good Christmas shot of POFQ that I could use for a shirt?
