I just bought transfer paper at Office Depot (it's office depot brand) - it says if you want it Matte- lift the paper 3-5 seconds after ironing, if you want Glossy then wait until it cools. I bought 100% Cotton shirts at Walmart. Of course, now my other two want a shirt to wear to disney, so I might be at this awhile! I've got three days until we leave ;)
It was scary to try, but it wasn't so bad. Personally, I would've liked a matte finish better, but she wanted it to be shiny.
I noticed it was shiny in the photo, but didn't know if it was just the picture. It looks great! Thanks for the tips. Have a great trip!

How fantastic!!! Disers together all in the same shirts - they'll think you're all one party and be real confused when it turns out you only just met yet all wear the same shirts - you should make a sign saying
"designed by Julia and Nick's mom" to hold up in the photos :earboy2:
Guess What???!!!!!!!!! Just found out that Lollipop Mom is the other 4 for our Family Magic Tour!!!!!! :cool1: That's all 15 of us from the DIS!!! :disrocks: the tour CM will freak if we all show up in the same shirts. Maybe we should put our family names on them? What a picture that would be!

I can't get a picture to post any other way.
I want to use this clip-art for my DD.
Pooh is her favorite.
A smiley face with touge out is her trademark.
This would be perfect for her.
I'm going crazy trying.
Any ideas.
I found this in Google clip-art search.
2nd page large.
Thanks for any help.

I went and looked at them (they look great!) - I will help you if I can. If you go to the gallery and right click on the image and click on "properties" you will see the address of your image. Right click and copy that address. On the message screen click on the "insert image" (its the one that looks yellow and like mountains) icon and when it pops up, paste that address into your message. Click ok, and it should appear. Of course, I always click on the "Preview Post" at the bottom of the message screen to see if looks right.
Does that help?

These designs look great. Can someone answer a questions for me (I have never done a customized shirt before & would love to try for our Oct trip).
Once you have an image, can you just print it on transfer paper & iron on or do you have to have a special computer program to arrange & print. If so, any good recommendations for a beginner? Thanks all!

Just print the image on transfer paper in MIRROR MODE, especially if there are words/writing on it - you can find this option in your printer's settings - and you're good to go!

Double check the instructions for you particular transfer paper- mine says to print it normally. Not sure how it works- but that's what it says! Hope to give it a try today.

This is a close up of the tee shirt that I painted today. I used pebeo's Soleil sunprinting fabric paint. I loved how it came out. I wanted a batik type of look. I used a white 96% cotton 6% spandex tee shirt because I wanted to be comfortable wearing it other places than just in the parks and I really like the fee of spandex in my tee shirts.
I used a purple, red and yellow mix of paints. The shirt looks more orange in the photo than it really it. Next time I want more variegated color. I am going to try it with a blue, green yellow mixture.
That was my first attempt and now I love this product. I am going to do a smaller one for my DH and then try another one for me with just painting in a masked off area. Working with that large of a tee shirt was difficult.

Okay, sorry these are so big, but I wanted Midnite to be able to scale them down as needed and still be clear images.
I don't have the talent or knowledge as to how to do this, but I was thinking if you could stitch the two images together, to get a good image of King Neptune AND some of the length of the dragon, it would look awesome inside the 3D Mickey head.....instead of a picture of the hotel building for POFQ. And maybe some of that "water" around it like you did for the Cruise one? And maybe slip in the POFQ logo in there somewhere? :confused3 What do you think? Let me know if you don't think you'll use these big photos and I will delete them from the thread b/c they are so big....

to get rid of a white - use the pointer to select the object - on the left there is an eraser tool - there is an arrow in the right corner - click on it and choose the magic eraser tool - it will erase all of the white that is connected - hope this helps

It's waaaaaay past my bedtime because I have been up reading this thread for HOURS!! You guys are all amazing !! I'm taking my DNeph and his family (and my family!) to WDW for his very special 8th birthday trip - now I'll be making him a 'birthday' t-shirt for every day - and one for the family magic tour and pirate cruise that I've booked !!!
MidNite - is the graphic of peter, john, wendy, et al flying over the cruise ship "layered"? in other words, could that graphic of them flying be placed over the 50th castle or the map? DNeph is a huge Peter fan (wearing his Peter costume to MNSSHP) and that graphic is awesome ! PS: don't forget the Boardwalk (our 2nd home!) !! This is now my favorite thread - I'll be shopping for t shirts and transfer paper as soon as my company leaves !!

Maybe someone out there could send me one!? Also, looking for a large picture of the Polynesian and the Contemporary.

Oo If I track down one of the AKL could you do one? How large does the photo need to be?
I downloaded the software and managed to make the Mickey ears but couldn't work out how to put the image in - I could only use the ones that were there - maybe it's becasue it's a trial...

to get rid of a white - use the pointer to select the object - on the left there is an eraser tool - there is an arrow in the right corner - click on it and choose the magic eraser tool - it will erase all of the white that is connected - hope this helps
I accidentally stumbled across that when I was trying to copy the image - and not the white - to another image - first time it worked... since then I draw around and then when I copy and paste I get the background with the hole cut out the middle but not the image :rotfl: What am I doing wrong?
Ahh actually I think I was using the magic tool on the selection icon - gonna go look for the eraser now... :penny dropped:

Hi Brendita - the image you have found is far too small to do anything with I'm afraid - if you try to make it any bigger it will just blur.
I made this one with Pooh and his friends on though:

TShirt idea for little girls....it's a two part thingie that would be a front/back design:
on the front, images of assorted princes from Disney movies and the words, "Sorry, guys..." and on the back a pic of the little girl and her Daddy and the words, "I already have a Prince!" ...or something like that.

So are you going to post a link so we can see it? Or is that a no-no on the DIS?
Thanks for asking! Here it is. (http://www.rationalitees.com) But like I said, it's not WDW related, and the designs are mostly text. I'm thinking about opening another shop for WDW vacation gear. Of course, no one posting in this thread would need it! And because it's a business, I won't be able to use any Disney images unless I buy a license, and I can't imagine how expensive that must be and what hoops one must jump through.
Okay, sorry, for the OT post. Everyone's designs are looking great!

Print a Preview Always, always, always print a preview copy of your image before printing it on the (expensive) transfer paper. Do this to insure that colors print correctly, that your image doesn't fall into your printer's no-print zone along the margins, and to see what size your design will be (sometimes the on-screen view can be deceiving).
Flip Image Don't forget to flip or mirror your image. This is especially critical if you have text in your design. The text should be backwards on screen or on the print out. (Another good reason to print a preview copy first!) Some programs do this automatically.
Use the Right Side of the Paper Transfer paper has stripes on the non-printing side. Be sure to put the paper in your printer so that it prints on the clean white side.
White Does Not Print In designing your artwork remember that WHITE does not print. The fabric will show through any parts of the design that are white. For example, if you print a white ghost on plaid fabric — you'll get a plaid ghost! Plan your design accordingly. As with any desktop publishing project, consider the background color when selecting colors for your designs. (some printers print the white when you tell it you are printiing a transfer sheet)
Test on Scrap Fabric Test your design on “scratch fabric” before applying it to your final t-shirt or other fabric. Some types of fabric may require more ironing (heat) than others or may not show off your design as well as you expected.
Use Lots of Heat Use your iron's hottest setting but no steam. It takes a lot of heat to transfer the image evenly and completely to the fabric. Peel off the paper while it is still hot.
Use a Hard Surface The reason transfer instructions specify a hard surface (such as formica) is because it holds the heat. Ironing boards tend to disperse the heat and the transfer paper needs to be very hot to work properly.

Hey Kevin....you being a man and all....(grin) what do you think you could come up with involving a Jessica Rabbit design for a 14 yo boy? (my son) He collects her pins, and now that his hormones are in action she is his favorite character, LOL.

So glad that worked out. The silver sequins really look great! We'll look for all of you on October 4th. We have lunch plans at Garden Grill, so we'll be in Epcot, at least for the morning/early afternoon, as well. Maybe we'll be on the same bus from POP.
Kevin - thanks for the compliment, maybe we'll see you at epcot - we have dinner reservations at Le Cellier - We aren't going to take the bus since we have a rental car, but we'll look for you in epcot and at the POP!

Wow! I have so much to say.
1. You all are really talented and have given me so many good ideas. Thank you!
2. This is a really fun thread to watch.
3. Somewhere on this thread or one of the links from it, I saw a clipart of Mickey and the Gang in cowboy hats. I have searched all 90+ pages and the links but I cannot find it. I am missing it somehow and it is frustrating! If anyone knows, the one I'm talking about it, could you help me out??
4. Thank you all again. I'm going to use some of these ideas for our trip binders and I am going to make a design to attach to our stroller and backpack.

Would you both post exactly what you bought?
Paper that turns unused areas white?
Paper that turns unused areas clear?
Thanks!~
I haven't bought any yet, but I was worried about the white areas not printing out white since most printers don't have white ink. My designs have quite a bit of white in them and I dont want those areas to turn out the colors of the shirt - I am using darker color shirts for most of them. So I am trying to figure out how you can tell (do they say on the packages?). I haven't done iron-ons for many years and a lot has changed in that time. They use to be pretty lousy!! :sad2:

 There are so many great ideas that I had to come up with more uses. This trip is DD's BD gift and MidNite did a wonderful design I used for a shirt to break the news to her. I also did a tie-dye Mickey that came out really well.
Nick and Julia's Mom did one for our resort, CBR, that I will also use for a shirt. There are so many others I want to use. I went to the local dollar store and bought DD and her best friend who is making her very first WDW trip a Light-weight laundry bag. I plan to put numerous designs on these as well as some of those little cloth carry bags you get at Hobby Lobby for them to use on the trip.
Does anyone know where I could find some small back-packs that could be decorated with an iron-on? Thanks

[on some printers when you choose the t-shirt transfer - it will fill in the white parts]

I could make a small lime green mickey head that we could iron on the sleeve of the shirts - this way we would all know they are DIS shirts and would easily reconize each other - it could jut be an inch tall and you put it on the right edge of the sleeve - easily noticable to all of us but would not detract from the shirt

As with any desktop publishing project, consider the background color when selecting colors for your designs. [on some printers when you choose the t-shirt transfer - it will fill in the white parts]
So, is just safest to print these designs on white shirts to avoid color problems? I'd love to print some on blue, orange, pink, but I all the designs have white in them. So, am I better off just going with plain white? Any suggestions?

I printed one for Julia last year on pink without any problems -
do your designs have a lot of white in them? Why am I asking you - I made them?!?! :rotfl2:
I think you should be okay - can you choose transfer on your pritner info - then I am pretty sure it would definately be white

I could make a small lime green mickey head that we could iron on the sleeve of the shirts - this way we would all know they are DIS shirts and would easily reconize each other - it could jut be an inch tall and you put it on the right edge of the sleeve - easily noticable to all of us but would not detract from the shirt

I was just thinking the same thing earlier today. Great minds.....
I LOVE that design for Epcot. Did you create that on your own? That is awesome.
No, did not create the Epcot graphic on my own. During our July 2003 trip, that design was on some t-shirts at Epcot. I liked the design but didn't really need to buy another t-shirt. So, we took a picture of the design with our camera. And I got to thinking about it while watching this thread. Rather ironic, if you think about it.

[QUOTE=BluOrchid2]Wow Kevin, I really like that Epcot design, too!
Hey Kevin....you being a man and all....(grin) what do you think you could come up with involving a Jessica Rabbit design for a 14 yo boy? (my son) He collects her pins, and now that his hormones are in action she is his favorite character, LOL.
This sounds like a fun one. I'll give it a shot and see what I can come up with.

Oh, yes I do!!!!!! I just used a wallpaper to do my shirt. I still can't figure out how to get the background off of the clip art, or I'll get it off with that tool you told me and then I can't save it? I'd like to save just the image with no backgroung, not pasted onto a new page??? Does that make sense?

MisNite, I love the christmas 3D Micky and the new Port Orleans 3D Micky. Is there any chance you could do one like the new PO one but with either the Beach Club or Stormalong bay in the background. I will have a look around for a good picture if that helps.

MIDNITE - I like the new POFQ one! I Like the resort in the background, I just miss King Neptune. Could I be any more of a pain and ask to see it with the resort behind the Mickey head, like you have it, but with King Neptune inside the 3D head? Not the whole length of the dragon, just using the photo of that closeup of KN? Don't hit me! LOL
KATE - I have so many of your designs in my folder! Love the new Toy Story one, Buzz as you know is my daughter's favorite so I had to save that one.

Okay so I am slowly getting better at using this but still cannot figure out how to get the text to print differently. By that I mean I would like to maybe have an arch to the text over the artwork or have it on the side at an angle. Can anyone who is using photoimpact help me with this. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Also I too cannot seem to post pictures to this site. Followed Midnites instructions but when it comes to the address part I am lost. I am trying to post my picture from photoimpact. Any ideas on this. TIA.
